I'm skeptical of a lot of "health" advice that seems more concerned with aesthetic signifiers (e.g. acne, wrinkles, size, etc.) than with physical well-being signifiers (e.g. decreased risk of a transmissible virus, relief of pain, etc.)

but I'm especially skeptical of "health" advice concerned with aesthetic signifiers where the aesthetic that is being defined as "more healthy" also just happens to line up exactly with the current hegemonic beauty standards of my culture.

someone starts equating "beauty" to "health" (and inevitably following, to "virtue") & it's like oh this person is either already a fascist or could be recruited by one extremely easily. probably should not trust any of their advice for how to live.

like we all know hegemonic beauty standards are constructed around power and economics. if someone is trying to tell you that a wealthy, white, skinny, cis person has better health outcomes because of "biology" (or their "responsible choices") instead of because they grew up living in less polluted areas, have greater access to a wider variety of nutritious food, work fewer hours, receive better healthcare, and are believed and supported when things go wrong, that is pretty straightforwardly an attempt to naturalize a social system.

what is actually a massive problem for disabled folks: "well you don't LOOK disabled, are you sure you're not faking? I'm not giving you accommodations until you PROVE you're not faking. Please give me, a stranger, your medical info and explain your condition to me in detail so I know you're not faking and only then will I respect or take you seriously"

Hey, here’s a concept. What if we stopped saying “but autistic people CAN do all those things” (erasing high support needs) and instead started saying “not being able to do those things doesn’t impact someone’s value as a person nor does it make it okay to commit eugenics”.

the absolutely crazy thing about some other lesbians is that they’ll reblog posts about how butch/femme doesn’t replicate heterosexuality at all and is a radical departure from traditional gender norms and expectations in a relationship and then still somehow get upset with you for “being butch and not texting first”. or liking to get fucked sometimes. it’s imperative as a community that we stop cis women
