Trains are running to a tight schedule to meet at the COVID requirements for the first running day in 12 months at Tamworth Miniature Railway. Thanks to the community for being prepared to book in and wait as we maintain social distancing regulations. Next task is to plan a new schedule to try to run more trains in March as we have had to turn some people away who hoped to have a ride. Thanks to all the volunteers who turned up today to help run the day like clockwork! #tamworth #tamworthnsw #tamworthlife #train #trains #miniaturetrain #miniaturetrains #locomotive #covid_19 #covidrules #covidrulesapply #minirail #minirailway (at Tamworth, New South Wales) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLiT5Rln9CW/?igshid=948ywcdrwxs9

Leaving town for the first time in ages - a trip through Niangala and Walcha to Apsley Falls, apparently first seen by John Oxley in September 1818 and steeped in local tribal lore. The water was flowing and the views over the edge of the lookouts specular. The steps used to go to the bottom of the falls but the slate rocks slowly roll forward and collapse, making it all a bit unstable. Great to get out of the house and back to nature! Fuel is starting to run low in the west - highway service station at Wilcannia is shut, can only purchase $20 worth at Emmdale, so made it to Cobar with 4km in the tank - lucky the Shell is at the western end of town! At the eastern end is the Peak Mine and over the road is the Heritage Centre with this relocated mine head and bronze miners memorial. We still had daylight so we made it to the Nyngan van park, on the banks of the Bogan. Yes I have seen bogans in banks before! They are happy to take visitors who are trying to head home. 600km down today and only 400km to go. The planned 3 week caravan tour will be concluded in 7 days - at least we saw lots of things and towns I had never been to before! #cobar #lowfuel #westernnsw (at Cobar) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-MXLB3HxRJ/?igshid=2b4nmxlxyz9m

1700kms over the last five days and look what we found in Broken Hill - 3 ply - and its not Silver, Lead and Zinc! The caravan park is rather quiet but apparently on Monday night it was packed as people changed travel plans and turned home - that’s why we saw soooo many vans on the road on Tuesday. At least there are plenty of outdoor activities in the west for a few days - even got the ‘ensuite’ van site as our little van doesn’t extend to a toilet or shower! First place we have been without a swarm of flies to greet us as its still very dry here at the home of BHP. We’ve passed through a lot of country which had its best rain in years over the last few weeks. Even traditionally dry river beds still have some pools, but see how quick the mud cracks open again! Tonight Broken Hill instead of the planned March 25 rendezvous with my brother in Paris and today was White Cliffs instead of the Cliffs of Dover - but feel much safer here - especially with my Quilton! See who can spot the fire extinguisher and what is wrapped around it? Hint = YNP! #brokenhill (at Broken Hill) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-J2O1bHiVZ/?igshid=cv3f5ewcmmc8

First stop in Lightning Ridge, an opal shop... one ring, pair of earrings and necklace later - Oh and I got some dirty rocks with opals in them. Much cheaper than shopping in Paris where we might have been next week! Then off the Supermarket for supplies - no toilet paper out here either! Found the mine with 113 steps on the spiral staircase, certainly a lot cooler underground. You can see the hard opal seam then it changes to all the clay thats dug out for the tunnels, with pieces of ‘nobby’ opal in it. Even the Lightning Ridge airport has a ridge in it - you cant see the other end, but at least it now has a $500k security fence to keep the terrorists out - at least that’s what we were told! Another warm day with blue skies. A trip to the bore baths before dinner I reckon. #lightningridge #opalmine #jewellery #shopping (at Lightning Ridge, New South Wales, Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9-wwRonnHc/?igshid=oov9qqc2of3v

Unfortunately due to the coronavirus and requests to postpone events that might attract certain numbers, the Tamworth West Rotary Club has elected not to run the Shannon’s Tamworth Motor Show in May 2020, but we will be back for our tenth show in 2021 #tamworthmotorshow #tamworthlife #motorshow #tamworthregionalentertainment #carshow #rotary #rotaryinternational https://www.instagram.com/p/B9ymPUenqPq/?igshid=23ke9nc3zu0k

Two former farmers who preferred to build machinery rather than battle drought, have taken out the Best Australian Manufactured Machine of the Year at Henty Machinery Field Days. Dallas and Kaidan Boyd (pictured with their award) from West Wyalong built a shed on their farm earlier this year, called themselves Clear Ridge Fabrication, and started building seed and fertiliser bins that allow full segregation on the various inputs that farmers use at sowing time each year. They have already sold a few and say the beauty of the unit is that it can be mounted on one truck rather than using two or three which is what they used to do. #hentyfielddays #hmfd2019 #henty #machinery (at Henty Machinery Field Days) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2lIdwjFT9J/?igshid=o3zsqi1aieu0

Henty - the home of the header - displaying 60 years advancement in technology, from the 1959 Claas Super 500 in the antique machinery exhibit, to the absolute latest - the Claas Lexion 8000/7000 series - one of the highest capacity harvesters in the world. Launched today at Henty Machinery Field Days, the latest in the Lexion range is a redesign of earlier models, giving it 10% more capacity. One of the major selling features is the hybrid combination of threshing and grain separation, plus an acceleration system increasing crop flow to the threshing drum. In heavy crops it can harvest up to 1000 tonnes of grain per day, which can make up to a million loaves of bread - enough to feed the city of Sydney every day! How much dough - about $780,000 will set you up, complete with front! You saw it first at HMFD. #hentyfielddays #hmfd2019 #henty #machinery #fielddays #claas #claaslexion @claas @_claas_lexion_ @claasharvestcentre #harvester #farm #farmer #farmers #nofarmersnofood (at Henty Machinery Field Days) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2kpsy9lEQH/?igshid=suqat2ppho0d

With drought conditions across much of Eastern Australia there is an increasing demand for hay baling equipment, especially high density bales which carry more weight and nutrition for livestock. European manufacturer of hay baling equipment, Kuhn Farm Machinery, have launched a high density unit producing large square bales, and displayed it for the first time at Henty Machinery Field Days. Kuhn product specialist, Michael Murer (left), and Kuhn Australia managing director, Bruno Fetiveau (right) say the high density machine can exert up to 60 tonnes of pressure when producing bales, but the action of two plungers to press the hay uses less energy than older equipment and anything that reduces running costs will be popular with Australian farmers. #hentyfielddays #hentyfieldday #henty #machinery #haybaler #haybalers #hmfd2019 #kuhn @kuhn_australia (at Henty Machinery Field Days) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2i-4uDFABN/?igshid=xfeee6hqr511

Henty Machinery Field Days presents a number of awards each year for the best indoor and outdoor exhibits at the annual event. Winner of the best outdoor large commercial exhibit this year was the Rabobank double deck truck. Deputy Regional Manager for Rabobank in the Riverina, Drew Hawkins, says the truck carries an important message not only for country audiences, but also to educate city people about where their food comes from. #hentyfielddays #henty #machinery #rabobank @rabobank #machinery (at Henty Machinery Field Days) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2i9pKEFerE/?igshid=ewd20mff0olt

A new video of the history of grain handling, titled ‘Bags to Bulk’ was launched at Henty Machinery Field Days, amongst a backdrop of historic wheat bag handling equipment. It was made by Ross Harmer of West Wyalong Movies (below). With modern day headers carrying more than 200 bags and large mobile bins up to 2,000 bags of wheat it’s a long way from individual bags loaded by hand or horses. An original hydraulic cylinder, invented from windmill parts to drive a manual bag loader, was on display at Henty. It was invented by Cliff Bowd of Canowindra and his grandson, Rod Bowd (pictured with the hydraulic ram) told the audience some of the history that led to the G-Well bag loader and later hay and wool bale loaders. There was also a display of bag sewing and skewers from days gone by. #henty #machinery #antiquemachinery #hentyfielddays #hmfd2019 #bagloader #westwyalongmovies (at Henty Machinery Field Days) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2i7iXAFn3K/?igshid=k0li5gttxmub

NSW Police have partnered with CrimeStoppers in a new effort to gather information to solve rural crime, stock loss and farm theft. Assistant Commissioner, Geoff McKechnie, was at Henty Machinery Field Days to launch the initiative, asking people to pass on information not necessarily about a crime they witness, but suspicious behavior that can assist Police to take appropriate action. The Deputy Commissioner was interviewed by the ABC's Country Hour at Henty Machinery Field Days - and they will be back again tomorrow providing further coverage of the annual event. #henty #machinery #farmmachinery #fielddays #fieldday #nswpolice #crimestoppers #ruralcrime #farm #farmersmarket #farmers #farm #nofarmersnofood #abccountryhour (at Henty Machinery Field Days) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2gPU71FdZn/?igshid=8dnd0d5afe7

The relatively simple combination of a grain chaser bin and a spreader has earned bin manufacturer, Coolamon, the Machine of The Year title at Henty Machinery Field Days. Coolamon general manager, Heath Hutcheon (pictured here on left with Bruce Hutcheon, right), says the spreader chaser bin is not only generating sales interest in Australia, but also overseas, and its a long way from a small farm machinery operation to now receive this recognition. #henty #machinery #fielddays #fieldday #coolamonchaserbins @coolamonchaserbins #farm #farmer #farmersmarket #grain #grainbins #chaserbin #nofarmersnofood (at Henty Machinery Field Days) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2gNNKSlTmN/?igshid=1g8ynjduj4vhe

Commemorating the Patron of Henty Machinery Field Days, the late Tim Fischer, former Deputy Prime Minister, Member for Farrer and Australian Trade Minister. Tim always enjoyed his annual visit to the Henty Machinery Field Days and was even instrumental in his early days as local State MP for Sturt, in gaining a freehold title for the Field Days Cooperative to operate on the site, which was a former Travelling Stock Reserve (TSR). A plaque was unveiled by former HMFD Chairman, Ross Edwards, and Tim's wife and partner of 30 years, Judy Brewer, at the site today. As Tim spoke for many years from 'the stump' at the centre of the HMFD site, Judy also spoke today of the importance of the event to Tim, promising to only speak for 'two minutes!' #henty #machinery #fielddays #fieldday #timfischer #deputyprimeminister #commemorations (at Henty Machinery Field Days) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2gAKKHF2mB/?igshid=1gtrhvzn8yy0e
