non psychotics: please normalize us talking about our hallucinations

in my experience even close friends ive known for years who know in schizophrenic will treat me different as soon as i talk about my positive symptoms, like i said something like "yeah i hallucinate every day" and my friends eyebrows shot up and he stopped what he was doing and kept his eyes on me like i was suddenly a threat

i am still the exact same person i was a few seconds ago before you learned about how often one of my symptoms occured, im no more dangerous than ive ever been, all of this goes on anyway weather you know it or not, and none of it has anything to do with my moral character

im honestly quite tired of hearing people explain the ins and outs of their anxiety disorders or depression, and then when i try to talk about my symptoms, the whole mood of the room changes, i just want to be honest and be able to vent like everyone else

please just let us talk about these things, let us explain how this affects us, let us feel safe enough to trust you with this information, and just act casual so we dont have to shift the conversation into making sure YOURE comfortable with MY symptoms

plus this behavior encourages us to keep our hallucinations to ourselves, and isolation and secrecey is not healthy for psychotic people

just let us talk about our lives like everyone else, dont treat us different, dont make a huge deal out of it, just listen
