👻 — his first instinct was to run toward the danger—past the lockwood and knelt down before him. he slid the victim into his lap, searching for any sign of life; calmly checking for pulse, for the rise and fall for their chest. it never got easier, but witnessing death was no longer as jarring as it once was before. perhaps experiencing it himself made the difference. "mason?" he asked, accusatory, as he looked up to see exactly who had done the deed. "what the hell did you do..?"
𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙣 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙚𝙧
it was just mason's luck that the moment he was able to come back from the other side that he was thrust into a shitty situation. he had been fully prepared to come back as his former self; a triggered werewolf that had already learned to deal with his physiology. now instead of focusing on protecting his nephew and seeking out his revenge, he had to deal with learning to accept being a vampire. at least temporarily. it was a hard pill for him to swallow; going from being a wolf that hated vampires to being the very thing that he despised.
he was hungry. all the time. and no matter how many times he stuffed his face, nothing seemed to sate the never ending hunger he felt in the pit of his stomach. he knew what he had to do to fix it; the very last thing he wanted to do. but after days of fighting against his new vampiric urges, he finally gave in late one night. snatching up an unsuspecting victim from the shadows of a dark alley and draining them dry without a second thought, unable to stop himself from drinking his fill until he was satisfied.
he dropped the now limp body with a shaky gasp, licking over his lips as the innate shame and guilt over what he had just done began to set in. "fucking hell.." he mumbled under his breath, before his back stiffened, feeling the presence of another being behind him.
"what do you want?"

👻 — Matt didn't find anything about her particularly amusing. Not her attitude, nor the way she dismissed his presence as an annoyance. If he picked up on her vulnerability, however, he didn't recognize it. That wasn't exactly something he'd expect from Katherine Pierce. "And causing trouble?" he offered, half joking and half annoyed himself. "Well what, Katherine. I don't owe you anything, let alone an explanation." Approaching her was of no one's best interest, matter of fact. "Not now, and not after what you did."
past curfew || katherine x open
The sharp click of Katherine's heels echoed against the empty streets as she approached the council building. Mystic Falls was eerily quiet tonight, the kind of quiet that felt oppressive rather than peaceful. The streetlights buzzed faintly, their orange glow flickering like they could barely hold themselves together. Fitting, she thought grimly. They matched her mood. And right now Katherine was in a bad mood... it was a bad day, a bad month... a bad fucking decade. Somehow her plans weren't exactly coming to fruition and it was frustrating her to no end.
And now this. Being human. Disgusting.
The cold air bit at her skin, and she pulled her coat tighter around herself, the human sensation of chill still foreign and unwelcome. It had been some time since the spell had rendered her mortal, and the novelty of vulnerability had long worn off. Every ache, every pang of hunger, every shiver reminded her of just how fragile she’d become. But Katherine Pierce wasn’t fragile. She refused to be.
She stopped in front of the council building, her eyes scanning the steps. The towering columns loomed over her like sentinels, and for a moment, she let herself feel small—just for a moment. Then the sound of footsteps broke the silence, and she instinctively stiffened, turning sharply toward the noise. Someone was there, stepping out of the shadows. Of course, there was. There was always someone lurking in this cursed town. Katherine’s heart skipped a beat—a genuine, human reaction she despised—and she clenched her fists to steady herself.
“Perfect,” she muttered under her breath, forcing her lips into a sardonic smile. She couldn’t let them see her falter, whoever they were. She straightened her posture, lifting her chin like the queen she still believed herself to be, even now. Her eyes swept over the figure, assessing. Stranger or not, friend or foe, it didn’t matter. She would handle it. She always did. But the weight pressing against her ribs, the hollow ache of her mortality, made her feel exposed in a way she hadn’t since... well, not in centuries. The person moved closer, and Katherine felt her pulse quicken—a sensation she was still getting used to. She curled her fingers into the fabric of her coat, masking the tremor with a haughty gesture as she folded her arms. “What?” she quipped, her voice sharp and dripping with derision. “Haven’t seen a girl out past curfew before?”
The snark came easily, a shield she didn’t even need to think about. Let them believe she was in control. Let them think she wasn’t just human, vulnerable, and out of her depth. But beneath the mask, Katherine felt the faintest pang of unease. She hated this. The nights were colder now, the shadows darker, and for the first time in a long time, she wasn’t the thing lurking in them. She watched the figure carefully, her sharp brown eyes revealing nothing but cool disdain. “Well?” she said, louder this time, her tone hard and impatient. She was Katherine Pierce. She would be damned if she let anyone—human, vampire, or otherwise—see her crumble.

👻 — He tried to listen, to hone in on whatever it was that was surging through him. "I don't know," he bit, frustrated. "It's like... what I imagine being an angry drunk feels like." Matt had experienced plenty in his short, human life.
“It was kind of hard to explain,” Her tone deliberately calm as she studied him carefully. “Just breathe, okay?” Her hand moved instinctively to his shoulder, a steadying gesture even though her own nerves were fraying. “What are you feeling?”

@lockwolfx | tyler
👻 — "You good?" he asked his best friend. Things across town was weird, even Matt was feeling weird. Tense, on edge. Different. "It's like no one wants to answer their phones." Which explained why he had come all the way to Tyler's front door, as he was struggling to get a hold of the Lockwood. He'd attempted to get ahold of Bonnie, too, but had zero luck.

👻 — The context was lost on the young man. All he knew was his mortal immune system, and the experience of coming into work despite how awful he felt. "Call off. I'll cover for you," he offered, sounding sincere... and then he smiled, something friendly and playful. "I mean it, Rik. You look like crap."
@mediumatt
If there was one thing that came along with mortality that Henrik didn't miss, it was a weakened immune system. He hadn't had to worry about illness or disease in over a thousand years - so much so that he had all but forgotten what it was like to fall ill. And it was just his luck that, in the midst of losing his vampirism, he had somehow caught a bug from some other living being. He leaned against the bar of the Mystic Grill, covering his mouth with his elbow as a heavy sneeze ripped through him, followed by a disgruntled noise. His head ached and he huffed out a sigh, looking up at the familiar blond standing a few feet away. "I swear.. When I get my hands on the person who gave me their vile germs, I'm going to," his words were cut off by another sneeze.

👻 — "you really don't have a clue." matt didn't know if he was surprised, or skeptical. klaus was doing an excellent job at sounding nonchalant... but it only made it more obvious to the donovan. "what's in it for you?" did it mean that whatever this was, had affected the original in some way? or his family.
klaus knew he shouldn't have ventured this far out into town. his search for rebekah has left him too exposed. "i didn't." his reply comes breezily enough, white-knuckling confidence he no longer retains the power to back up. "you're barking up the wrong tree, this time, i'm afraid. don't tell me you and the rest of your club of future high school drop outs haven't worked out what's behind this yet? i was hoping to piggyback off your hard work. what a shame."

👻 — "You know, I'm pretty tired of people asking me that." Matt knew something was up, but he didn't have the means to understanding the what. Seeing Stefan on edge like this, though, was usually a bad sign. "Why? What's really going on?"
@mediumatt !
"hey, man." he props his elbows on top of the counter, drums the knuckles of one hand against it as he watches matt work with a more critical eye than usual. "how are you holding up?" not the best place to ask, maybe, but matt also can't blame everyone he knows for being a little protective lately, all things considered. "no wrong answers, just tell me you aren't experiencing a sudden craving for blood." if he has to walk one more newbie vampire through this... fine, he'll do it, and suffer in silence while he's at it, but it will be suffering.

👻 — There was something off. His senses were, different. Not exactly heightened but.. sensitive. He felt irritatable, and that made him paranoid. "Care," he said, getting her attention by lightly touching her arm. "What's going on?"

👻 — This whole coming back from the dead thing was a real pain in the ass. Especially when all your vampire 'friends' are too caught up in their own drama to help with the.. logistics of it. "Evening, Mrs. Lockwood."

💰 → Everything was set up, and going off without a hitch and the mayor of Mystic Falls was feeling rather satisfied with herself... until she saw a ghost. "...Matthew?"

👻 — as good of a copout that sounded, matt wasn't amused. "i'm sure elena would love agree," came his sarcastic, yet dry response. the running around in circles was the last thing he expected, so it took him this long to accept it and move forward. find another way. "okay, think it over."
🏹 → "whatever it is, it's waited this long, hasn't it?" the hunter asked coolly, wondering again how miranda could be so careless as to write about it in a journal of all places... let alone leave it somewhere that even matt donovan could find it before jenna or one of the kids - small mercies it seemed. "i never said you had to give it up." he reminds, not wanting to further incriminate himself. "but if anyone should get it, it should be elena. it's her mom's - might make her feel closer to her."

👻 — Maybe it wasn't very original, but it was the first of the night, so Matt would give it to him. "Is it about a horse?" he asked, sounding ready to play. "Maybe. And if I do, what's in it for me?"
@mediumatt
"Where's your horse at, cowboy?" Diego couldn't help but chuckle at his own joke. "I've got a riddle for you - think you can answer it?"

👻 — It was uncomfortably intimate, in his mind, feeling her hand on his neck like that—cradling her wrist against his lips and feeding off her blood. It made the hairs on his neck stand up, and his expression relieved when she cut him off. It didn't hurt anymore, but he still checked his neck; feeling with his fingers where the tingling of fresh-healed flesh lingered. "Yeah," he replied, back of his hand moving to wipe across his mouth. "You?"
"You're welcome." Brianna watched as he drank from her wrist, her free hand resting against the back of his neck. Matt had been the only person who had ever drank her blood, seeing as how she never had a reason to heal a human or turn one. The act was a little uncomfortable, but she would bet it wasn't nearly as uncomfortable as having teeth sink into your neck. "You good now?" She asked as she pulled her wrist away, eyeing the now healed spot on his neck.

👻 — The display earned her a laugh from the human, finding her immediately charming. "Yes, ma'am," he reiterated, tipping his hat toward her. "I uh, think I'm fresh out. Sorry," he teased, still smiling. "Let me make it up to you?"
"You think so?" Sadie grinned as she struck a small pose, playfully waving her sharp gloved fingers at him. "And what's my prize, cowboy?"
