I reblogged this little gifset about two years ago, and now there's a note on it saying Tumblr thinks there's something inappropriate going on in the reblog. So I've copied the images (don't know how to copy the gifs, so they're stills, but it still works) and I'm reblogging it here, mostly for my own edification, just in case Tumblr decides to take the original one I reblogged down.

Clara recommended he take the Tardis. And who knows, maybe the Tardis put the idea in Clara's head to recommend her to the Doctor. That would still go along with the idea that the Tardis chose the Doctor.

Reassuring isn’t really his strong point.

Can we talk about the fact that the Doctor busts open the glass cloche in Crimson Horror when he sees Clara in it?
The Doctor. Anti-violence, anti-physical force, oh-we-can-solve-everything-with-reason, Doctor uses a fucking chair to break it open without a second glance.
Because something bad was happening to Clara.

Nobody likes me for this view, but this scene is one of the biggest reasons I cannot get into the River/Doctor matchup.
The whole scene just grates on me. I've had people try to explain River's attitude to me before, but I'm afraid it still rubs me the wrong way. In my view, this is the most ungrateful thing she could have done for a loving, sweet gesture. What he did is what LOVE does. Considering others above self--particularly when we are in love. What she did is what SELF does. Considering only our *own* feelings about a gesture, instead of being grateful for it. He acted like a lover...a husband...and she acted like a shrew in response. "Oh but she doesn't think she's worthy of such a sacrifice." Well, she sure had a lousy way of showing that. Instead she acts like he's a jerk. He was making up for being a jerk earlier--he told her to get herself out of the Weeping Angel's grasp. Yes, she tried to hide that she broke her wrist to do it, and I'm betting she was angry about that (she had every right to be, honestly. He was a jerk to leave her hanging like that). But his actions afterwards, in sacrificially healing her wrist, was his way of saying, "I'm sorry, I was wrong, here, let me rectify that wrong," and she just throws it back in his face. That's why I dislike this scene so much. She does not give him the forgiveness he is seeking for being a jerk earlier. On top of the fact that he sacrifices some of his regeneration energy to do it. He could have just said "let's go in the Tardis and I'll take care of that in the med room" or something. Instead he takes some of his own life-force and gives it to her. That showed true love. And the fact that he forgives her even for that petty response to his sacrifice says a LOT to me about the Doctor.
Frankly, in their relationship, the Doctor gave a lot more than River ever did, except at the end, when she sacrificed herself. It was one of the rare times she thought of others before herself.
I just can't get on the River/Doctor bandwagon. Sorry.
Why did you lie to me?

The intensity in their eyes is off the scale. And her smirk and eyebrow lift...it's no wonder his body sort of drifts inexorably towards her.
UST indeed.
