Escudero sees Duterte adjusting appropriately well in office

If there is one thing that has changed in the first year of President Rodrigo Duterte’s presidency, it would be his brash rhetoric which has “mellowed down a bit,” Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero said on Tuesday.
Escudero, member of the majority bloc in the Senate, initially declined to assess Duterte’s performance, saying he has yet to see all the data before he could come up with a definite grade on how the President led the country for the past year.
“He’s (Duterte) learning certain things, and we’re learning certain things. He’s getting used to certain things and we’re getting used to certain things as well with him,” he said in an interview over ABS-CBN News Channels’ morning show “Headstart.”
But when asked about the President’s “brash rhetoric,” Escudero said: “Yan yung sinasabi ko na (that’s what I’m saying, that) we’re trying to get used to him, and he’s trying to get used to the office as well.”
The senator noted that when Duterte was still the mayor of Davao City, he could get away with his rhetorical statements because nobody was paying attention to him except his constituents.
“Now anything that flows from his mouth is actually not only national but international news as well. He has to get used to that and we have to get used to his brash rhetoric too,” he said.
“But in the past few months, it has mellowed down a bit. So I think as we get used to him, he’s getting used to it as well. Buti na lang nga at may (good thing that there was a) Trump na dumating (that arrived),” Escudero said in jest, referring to US President Donald Trump.
Before this, the senator recognized the country’s economy, which has been “relatively healthy” under the Duterte administration, noting that the Gross Domestic Product stood at 6.3 percent to 6.4 percent in the last half of 2016.
“I think the reason is number one: President Duterte is not perceived to be corrupt or is not actually corrupt like the former president, Aquino, and number two; he has not dipped his fingers, to be fair, on matters that he feels like is not part of his core competence,” he said.
Escudero said that while Duterte was focused on his war on drugs and the peace and order problems of the country, the President did not dip his fingers on the economy and instead allowed his economic managers to handle it by themselves, being experts at their fields.Â
Reflection:
Many of us thinking that our current President Rodrigo Duterte is the worst and dictador leader in his administration. We never sees how he do his best to get our economic status  more higher than before. Many Agricultural have growth in his term as a President.Base on what I’ve observed our economy has an improvement than before and as a student I feel that.Maybe not all the sector has an improvement but I think it will be happened not today but sooner. I admire what Senator Escudero said that President Rodrigo Duterte is not involve in any corruption Because I believe in his leadership in his dignity to take our country back with discipline and equality. We,filipino gave a big trust and responsibility to our Government. We elected them because we know they can  handle our country and they can be a good leader in our nation. We always expect that our economy will improve and fullfill our needs.Last year President Rodrigo Duterte was elected to be a leader of our country. Many of us  trusted him to handle the responsibility.Even he is new he fulfill the economic issue that our country encountered.Rodrigo Duterte change effectively our country even though he was accuse by many people  because of his bad words that comes to his mouth.I was  also amaze because he's only the president who get the attention of other country and help us to stand up fulfill our economy.
Pimentel wants computer programming taught to elementary pupils

INQUIRER.net / 02:02 PM December 06, 2017
Due to the prevalence of computers, Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III now wants the Department of Education to include teaching code, also known as computer programming, in elementary schools.
Pimentel noted that computer programming is being offered as an “option” in senior high school under the Information and Communications Technology strand of the Technical Vocational Track.
“Coding is now an essential skill due to the prevalence of computers in our daily lives. It should be treated like reading, writing, and arithmetic, not just as a career option,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Pimentel, who was a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, explained that coding is a way to introduce to children concepts such as logic and mathematics.
“By teaching code, we can take advantage of children’s fascination with technology to help them learn mathematical concepts in a manner they find entertaining,” he said.
“Coding also teaches perseverance and problem-solving. In writing a computer program, you have to be adept at breaking down tasks into simple problems the computer could understand. You also need to be patient to identify and correct bugs in the code. These are life skills that would benefit anyone in any field,” the Senate leader added.
Pimentel said teaching code is also a way to help improve the schools’ performance in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics branches.
“Teaching code in schools should not be difficult. We don’t need state-of-the-art computers to learn the basics. We can use open-source software such as Linux to keep costs down,” he said.
“Also, since many Filipinos own a smartphone and we now have the free wi-fi law, it is easy to download many apps that will help children learn more about programming,” the Senate leader added.
Reflection:
We live in a world of millineals and of course we live in a  world of modern technology.Sen. Koko Pimentel wants to prioratize the academic performance of a students in terms of engineering, mathematics and technical vocational. It has great proposal in terms of education especially now many of us addicted to the social networking sites ,and gadgets. They using it without knowing and guide by their parents that's why many us was involve in different crimes including scam.It was  the best way to promote the right ethics  of technology.
DepEd to monitor closely students administered with Dengvaxia

INQUIRER.net / 09:34 AM December 02, 2017
The Department of Education (DepEd) vowed on Saturday to work closely with the Department of Health (DOH) in monitoring the thousands of students who have been administered with the anti-dengue vaccine, Dengvaxia.
“As the health and safety of our learners are of principal importance, the [DepEd], in close coordination with the [DOH], will monitor the condition of learners who have been administered with the dengue vaccine Dengvaxia,” the DepEd said in a state
“As a stakeholder, DepEd will likewise be actively participating in the review and consultations of DOH on the dengue vaccination program,” it added.
The DOH has recently suspended its P3.5-billion anti-dengue immunization drive after pharmaceutical giant, Sanofi Pasteur, admitted that its vaccine, Dengvaxia, could lead to more severe symptoms for people who had not previously been infected.
The agency said more than 733,000 public schoolchildren 9 years old and above in three highly endemic regions—Metro Manila, Central Luzon and Calabarzon—have received at least the first of three doses of the first licensed dengue vaccine.
The botched program has drawn huge criticism from the public and government officials alike. In a Facebook post, former DOH undersecretary Dr. Susan Mercado said the program was the “biggest government-funded clinical-trial-masked-as-a-public-health-program scam of an experimental drug in the history of the DOH.”
Several senators have called for an investigation into the issue to hold officials accountable for the mess.
Reflection:
We experience different kinds  of diseases including the dengue flu.More than million of Filipino people have victim of dengue flu every year. That's why the DOH introduce the Denguevaxia, which can't affect dengue flu,but we don't know if this is safe because it was just an experiment. The DepEd has a good decision to have close coordination with DOH for the safe of the  students especially the young ones.Dengue is a serious matter and we always find a cure but before we take and give the possible solution think first the safety of everyone.
AIDS
UNFPA/Benedicte Desrus
Arlete Eduardo Vilanculos, a 17 year old student and peer educator at Nucleo de Mavalane, (Mozambique) a Youth Association against drugs and HIV.
In June 1981, scientists in the United States reported the first clinical evidence of a disease that would later become known as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, or AIDS. Its cause, the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), was identified in 1983.
Since the start of the epidemic around 78 million (71 million–87 million) have become infected with HIV and around 35 million (29.6 million–40.8 million) people have died of AIDS-related illnesses. In 2015, there were 36.7 million (34.0 million–39.8 million) people living with HIV.
HIV is found in the bodily fluids of a person who has been infected - blood, semen, vaginal fluids and breast milk. It can be transmitted through unprotected sexual contact. It is also spread among people who inject drugs with non-sterile injecting needles, as well as through unscreened blood products. It can spread from mother to child during pregnancy, childbirth or breast feeding when the mother is HIV-positive.
Antiretroviral treatment
Over the ensuing decades, the rate of infection soared dramatically, as did the rate of fatalities. In 2015, 36.7 million people were living with HIV. But eventually, new antiretroviral treatment began to extend the lives of those who were infected. As of December 2015, 17 million people living with HIV were accessing antiretroviral therapy, up from 15.8 million in June 2015 and 7.5 million in 2010. At the same time, even though new HIV infections have declined, there are still an unacceptably high number of new HIV infections and AIDS-related deaths occurring each year. In 2015, around 2.1 million people were newly infected with HIV and 1.1 million people died of AIDS-related illnesses.
New HIV infections have fallen by 6% since 2010 (by 50% among children) and AIDS-related deaths have fallen by 45% since the peak in 2005. The global response to HIV has averted 30 million new HIV infections and nearly 8 million (7.8 million) AIDS-related deaths since 2000, when the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were set.
UNAIDS
The UN family has been in the vanguard of this progress. Since 1996, its efforts have been coordinated by UNAIDS — the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS. UNAIDS is an innovative joint venture of the United Nations family, which brings together the efforts and resources of 11 UN system organizations to unite the world against AIDS. These are: UNHCR, UNICEF, WFP, UNDP, UNFPA, UNODC, the ILO, UNESCO, WHO and the World Bank.
Goals to end AIDS Millennium Development Goals
In 2000, at the General Assembly’s Millennium Summit world leaders set specific goals to stop and reverse the spread of HIV. Heads of State and Representatives of Governments issued the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS which set out a series of national targets and global actions to reverse the epidemic. The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria was created in 2002. And in 2006, the Assembly held a high-level review of progress made since its special session, adopting a 53-point Political Declaration on the way towards universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support services.
World leaders gathered in New York in June 2011 for the General Assembly High Level Meeting on AIDS. The promises they made defined the next steps in the global AIDS response.
In 2015, the world delivered on the AIDS targets of Millennium Development Goal 6—halting and reversing the AIDS epidemic. This remarkable achievement marks the first time a global health target has been met and exceeded. By mid-2015, the number of people accessing antiretroviral therapy reached nearly 16 million—double the number just five years earlier.
The world has halted and reversed the spread of HIV. The epidemic has been forced into decline. New HIV infections and AIDS-related deaths have fallen dramatically since the peak of the epidemic. Now the response is going one step further—ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030.
Sustainable Development Goals
Ending AIDS by 2030 is an integral part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which were unanimously adopted by United Nations Member States in 2015. The lessons learned in responding to HIV will play an instrumental role in the success of many of the SDGs, notably SDG 3, good health and well-being, and the goals on gender equality and women’s empowerment, reduced inequalities, global partnerships and just, peaceful and inclusive societies.
Fast–Track to end AIDS
To take the AIDS response forward, UNAIDS has developed a Fast-Track approach to reach a set of time-bound targets by 2020. The targets include 90% of all people living with HIV knowing their HIV status, 90% of people who know their HIV-positive status having access to treatment and 90% of people on treatment having suppressed viral loads. They also include reducing new HIV infections by 75% and achieving zero discrimination.
Reflection:
A person who has illness like AIDS is a big mistake that happened to persons life,Even me I will consider myself as a failure in life  if I’m putting myself to their situation. Many people all over the world experiencing and died every year because of AIDS.Imagine more than a million people who died every year.Aids is not just only to a person who having sex to a different man/girl.Aids is a kind flu that all the aspect of people can have this. This is the most hurtful things that happened to a persons life because of this other people discriminate them emotionally. We don’t know what happen to them before they having aids.Until now the doctors from other country can’t find a cure for this kind of flu.Maybe it has a cure but still they study it.AIDS can’t cure, the other people who victim on this flu live longer because they’ve change their  lifestyle from the food that they take and other aspect that can help them to make their life long.

Youth In Media
Let’s go what’s new, trend and hit. That’s the new Filipino youth nowadays. Social media is the popular media to everyone. Why is it popular? What are the effects of media to the filipino youth?
Media is the new trend nowadays because in our society we can’t live without it. In media you will know what you want to know. In one cliclk, you will get the information tat you need by using social media.Social media/media has a great impact to us but if we’re not use it a proper way, it can be cause negative effects not just only to your health but also to your perspective. The positve effects of media to ourlives it can educates us,can make  new friends and can communicate with other people. The negative effects of it is addiction and many people bacome victim of bullying through social media. That’s why we must to know the do’s and dont’s of using social media.
The filipino youth is important and useful in our society but how they became useful if they don’t know how to follow the simple instruction and rules. As a filipino youth always be a practical in using social media because we are the youth, the role model for the next generation.
As of my perspective, It;s natural to go on what’s new and trend but always know the limitation of using media especially there are millions youth who used media.Don’t let yourself control by social media.
