When you've been a writer for long enough, commas become more of a spiritual practice than a grammatical one.

Could I explain the actual rules of how they’re used? Absolutely not.

Do I rely on sensing a tremor in the force to tell me where to use them? Yes and this has never failed me even once.

So I just found out that Spotify doesn't allow podcast episodes >12 hours. I can upload them, and I publish those summary episodes for all my multichaps - but apparently none of them are actually displayed on Spotify, and they cannot be played there. Some of them seem to be playable on other platforms: For example, I can see 'a lighthouse burning' with just under 18 hours online on Pocketcasts, but the 18+ hour episode for 'The Whole Damned World Seemed Upside Down' doesn't show up there either - but both have been streamed somewhere, according to my Spotify stats. This is SO weird. Why allow creators to upload and publish such long episodes, and never tell us that you're just going to hide them? Why pass some long episodes on through RSS and but not others?

My apologies to anyone who's been looking for summary episodes for my 12+ hour multichap pods. They're all there, I diligently created and posted them for ages!

I'll have to think about what to do with this, and I'd love some insights from listeners. Should I still provide summary episodes, but split them into several <12-hour episodes? Is that still a benefit over having the chapter-by-chapter posts? Have you ben finding those long episodes on other platforms anyway, and this is a non-issue? Alternatively, I've been pondering a move away from Spotify (for hosting, it'd still be available to listen!), because the platform only ever gets worse, and they don't gaf about all the bug reports I submit. It's only ever "everything would be fine if you would just use Chrome."

What are people's favorite Agatha fics that focus more on her Aunt/Nephew relationship with Billy? I like Agatha/Rio but I would rather that not necessarily be the main focus (which is weird because I like me a shippy fic)

I marvel at people who post fics as they write. It's the literary equivalent of a high wire act. I can't imagine how anyone stays motivated to continue writing and posting in the middle of the everyday challenges of life. Amazing!

And how will I prove my age?

There’s a number of methods a site or app might use to ask you to confirm your age. They might do this check themselves or use another company to do the check. These methods include:

Facial age estimation – you show your face via photo or video, and technology analyses it to estimate your age. 

Open banking – you give permission for the age-check service to securely access information from your bank about whether you are over 18. The age-check service then confirms this with the site or app.

Digital identity services – these include digital identity wallets, which can securely store and share information which proves your age in a digital format.

Credit card age checks – you provide your credit card details and a payment processor checks if the card is valid. As you must be over 18 to obtain a credit card this shows you are over 18.

Email-based age estimation – you provide your email address, and technology analyses other online services where it has been used – such as banking or utility providers - to estimate your age.  

Mobile network operator age checks – you give your permission for an age-check service to confirm whether or not your mobile phone number has age filters applied to it. If there are no restrictions, this confirms you are over 18. 

Photo-ID matching – this is similar to a check when you show a document. For example, you upload an image of a document that shows your face and age, and an image of yourself at the same time – these are compared to confirm if the document is yours.

Not only is this such a fucking breach of privacy, but this is going to hurt adults in vulnerable and abusive situations. Some adults don’t have bank accounts or credit cards or even a fucking phone. I’m one of them. I could not give half of this information even if I wanted to. What the fuck is this. Fuck the UK government. This isn’t going to protect kids, this is just going to hurt adults, and I know full well when they say “sites that allow pornography” they’re going to be going after sites that have huge amounts of queer content, like tumblr and Ao3. Queer kids are gonna lose their fucking communities because of this shit. Abuse victims are going to lose online support systems because of this.

I’m genuinely fucked off about this, and worried about whether I’m going to lose every single one of my online friends. Anyone in the UK, please email your MP and sign this petition. It needs to reach 100k signatures to pass through Parliament.

I’m only hoping the backlash will be big enough for them to stop implementing these measures.

I posted 2 fics pretty much exactly the same number of days away from today. One as a last chapter, the other as a stand-alone. Hopefully this isn't breaking the rules by posting both.

The first:

Somewhere in Your Universe

Summary: With all the loss the Doctor's experienced, he would have thought he would manage to keep his hopes and expectations low when Rose returns. She had, after all, done so with the Metacrisis, Handy - or John, as he's apparently called - as well as a mysterious interloper that evaded the Torchwood in Pete's World. But something's off. With Rose, with Handy/John, and the whole thing that brought them over in the first place. And River's of no help, what with "Spoilers" being her only answer to anything. Which means the Doctor is inevitably going to be filled with hope that maybe, just maybe, he might be able to keep something this time. Reality will probably break his hearts, even if it's not the way he expects it to.

Almost a year ago I posted the last chapter of this fic. It was my Fandom Trumps Hate fic for the year, so the seed of the idea wasn't mine but I did have fun with it. The downside was that I ended up using some elements I was going to use in a potential Run With You story. It also made me realize I was getting a wee bit of Doctor Who writing fatigue.

The second fic:

Traveled Half the World to Say...

Summary: Beau always knew he was different, and maybe always felt a connection to his long-dead sister. Except, it turns out Bella's not dead after all....

The final fic in the Turning Page Series

This was a fic that sat in my WIP folder for about 3 years. When I finished my Aro/Bella fic I left Edward Cullen single and sullen which is fine and he deserved it. But I also couldn't resist having Bella's little brother come find her and Uh-oh! Looks like Edward's soulmate's a dude after all.

“How was Warlock today at school?” Adam frowned in consideration. “Fine, I guess.” “You guess?” Ezra asked as he shifted the baby in his arms. Adam shrugged. “He didn’t talk much. And he wasn’t as into Mario Kart this afternoon. Thought maybe he was having one of his headaches.” If he hadn’t witnessed the shift in Warlock this morning, Ezra might have thought the same thing. “Was he withdrawn?” Ezra asked. When he noted the slight crease in Adam’s brow, he added, “did he spend time with you and the rest of the Them today?” “’Course,” Adam replied like Ezra was mad for asking. “Well, if he says what’s bothering him, let us know, will ya? We’re worried.” Anthony said pointedly. “’Kay,” Adam said, glancing between his parents with equal judgment before slipping out of the chair and heading upstairs. “Well that was illuminating,” Anthony said with a roll of his eyes. “He’s eleven, what did you expect?” “He’s not eleven, and I expect something more than ‘mighta had a headache.’” “Darling, much as they love each other, they don’t notice the obvious about one another sometimes. Do you remember when Adam walked around for the whole day with his shirt inside out and backward, and Warlock didn’t realize?” Anthony grumbled, but Ezra heard something along the lines of “fair” in it. He shook his head in fond exasperation as he went to unload the dishwasher, Anthony turning to rant adorably at their daughter who babbled away.

Bill was well-liked in the Doctor Who fandom, with many fans expressing that they wished we had gotten more of her.
