Water Scrying

Water scrying is the art and practice of gazing into water to see the future or receive a vision. Water scrying is a great way for clairvoyants to develop their skills, but can also be done by anyone. -Mod J

To start, you are going to need a bowl or something that holds water. Preferably the bowl or water holding object should be a solid color inside so you don’t get distracted by patterns. Black, white, or a metal bowl are ideal because these are colors that are easy to gaze at for extended periods but any solid color should work.

Fill the bowl with water

Now set up your space. It helps to turn off the lights and have a candle or a few around the bowl giving some light but not close enough that you see the reflection in the water.

Now this is the hardest part, gaze into the water in the bowl and let your eye lose focus. Your vision might get a little blurry but try to fight the urge to look around and refocus your vision. After a while of doing this you might be able to correct the blurriness without losing focus on the water. Around this point when your gaze softens some kind of vision should appear in the water. It’s important to understand that what you see might be a real depiction of what your scrying for/about but it’s more common for you see symbolic images instead. Learning to translate these symbols takes some time and practice so keep working at it. Another thing to note is that you might feel like your mind is just making you see things in the water that isn’t there, and i guess on some level that is correct. The water it’s self isn’t what’s producing the vision, you are receiving because you asked to, and are using the water and bowl as tools to help perceive it.

Here are ways to help enhance your water scrying that i know of:

You can charge your bowl over night with tea made from certain herbs. I like to steep some mugwort and lavender in my bowl to charge it while i sleep and empty it in the morning.

You can a few drops of essential oils to your bowl while scrying, or before to help charge the bowl and water’s energy. The oily surface can also help keep you from getting distracted and gives your eyes something to focus on.

Another way to prevent distraction is to put a small crystal at the bottom of the bowl around the center. It gives you a fixed point to look at, but I’ve noticed for me that is often cut off some of the vision and everything will move around the crystal rather then appearing in the whole bowl.

Using your bowl for offerings. I find this helps charge and enhance my scrying bowl’s energy by putting offering in it when i work with other spirits and deities.

Sometimes it can also help to instead of building up the energy in the bowl do a cleansing and put some salt water in the bowl to soak.

You can also use moon water, sun water, or any magically enhanced water that might be specific to the type of reading you are doing. I find moon water is always good for all water scrying.

If you try water scrying and find it doesn’t work for you that’s alright. It’s not for everyone, and even those who do it regularly have off days where they can’t get anything to come through. So give it a few tries before you decide if it’s something for you. Good luck with your scrying! -Mod J

Healing Onion Stew

Serves one person.

1 onion

1 clove of garlic (or 1 tsp garlic powder)

½ dl cream (or a vegan alternative)

1 tbsp fresh chives (or 1 tsp dried)

½ tsp sage

½ tsp thyme

salt to taste

olive oil

a sigil for healing (optional)

Charge the ingredients and tools and cleanse your workspace as you please.

Chop the onion, garlic, and any fresh herbs and throw them on the pan with some olive oil.  If you have a sigil, form it out of the ingredients (I recommend drawing it on the pan with oil). To charge it, heat until the onions start to look translucent. Pour in the cream, add a pinch of salt, and stir clockwise, imagining your healing process.  The stew is done in 5-10 minutes. .

Serve on bread with some tomato slices or as a side dish.

I made this recipe to combat a cold, but I imagine it can work for other illnesses as well. You could switch out sage and/or thyme for something more specific though.

Who are Spoonie Witches?

…and why are there so many of us?

Simply put, a spoonie witch is a person with a chronic illness, disability or mental illness who also practises magic and/or witchcraft.

The term spoonie comes from The Spoon Theory, first termed by Christine Miserandino on her blog. It is an analogy to express the way people with chronic illnesses feel with low, limited and/or sporadic energy levels. Recently, the term has been used by chronically ill, disabled and mentally ill people, as an umbrella name for us all - Spoonies!

Since meeting other witches with chronic illnesses and disabilities online, and in real life, I have asked myself a simple question: why are so many of us drawn to witchcraft and magic? Until recently, I found it difficult to answer the question, but now I can answer it for myself at least; I wonder if I’m right for you too. Magic gives us power, a sense of agency and control over ourselves and our environment. Whatever our illnesses or disabilities, they can sometimes leave us with a sense of helplessness, feeling out of control or of feeling lost within our world. Magic gives us a way back to being an active part of the universe, to be changed and to make changes.

Magic takes many forms and is unique to all of us. Whether we like to take hours to perform a complex ritual or make wishes when we blow out candles - we are all performing daily rituals of magic.

🔮Psychic Skills🔮

We’re all born with extrasensory perception (ESP). We all have gut feelings, the only problem is that we don’t listen to our intuition. Your sixth sense should never be ignored.

The first step in finding your ESP is acknowledge you have the power to get all the information that was hidden from you.  Do a daily mantra or affirmation saying something like “ My mind is wide open and ready to receive information”.

Then begin researching as much as you can about a given psychic ability, especially one you have an affinity for. Learn your strengths and that most people are extrasensory in only one or two ways.

🔮Training🔮 

Close your eyes, clear your mind and let your senses guide you. Try to “feel” what’s in front of you even if you’re not physically touching it. 

Learn to focus on the senses even when you’re surrounded by distractions. When you’re in a crowded place try to quiet your mind and isolate each sense. That helps you keep your senses tightened at any time. 

After some time of doing this try to make simple predictions, like what are your friends going to tell you, or when you wake up predict if it’s sunny or not.

Clear your mind. Start with something like “Should I take this street today?”. An answer will pop into your mind. (That’s your gut feeling)  Don’t analyze it or think about it, just go with it and do it. Don’t be disappointed if you encounter problems in the street your intuition told you to go. Remember that we can never see what didn’t happen because of the choice we made. Everything happens for a reason.

Trust your intuition! Never say that it’s always wrong, as this types of comments don’t let it improve. 

Stop the what-ifs! 

Don’t try to find logic in your intuition. If you do so, it won’t work.

Meditate!

Clear your mind and make a list of questions you need answers to.  Close your eyes and imagine a traffic light–Red at the top (no), yellow in the middle (maybe) and green at the bottom(yes) – Start warming up by asking questions that you already know the answer to. Do this until you feel confortable asking other types of questions. The color that first pops into your mind is the answer.
