tips for your daily routine
1. have rituals to start your day. before sitting down to study, you need to be ready for the day ahead. this could range from watering plants (like you’ve seen in the video hehe) to meditating to cleaning your study space or simply making yourself your cup of coffee
2. if smaller tasks come up, or you really don’t feel like starting: try the 1 minute rule. tell yourself you’ll do the work for just a minute, and if you don’t feel like continuing, you can stop. most often what’s actually holding us back isn’t the task itself but the “starting energy” we need to initiate it.
3. plan study breaks, or use the pomodoro techniques. knowing in advance how much longer you have to study during a session will make you less likely to just pull out your phone now.
4. don’t rely on motivation. you won’t be able to stay motivated for weeks on end, so have a clear plan of tasks you need to get done, regardless of how motivated or inspired you feel that way. cultivating discipline is incredibly important and the sooner you start, the better.

You do owe the world things, actually. It’s just those things tend to be perfectly balanced.Â
You owe people respect and dignity; they owe the same to you.Â
You owe children kindness; as a child, you are owed a kind world.Â
You are owed nourishment by any world that brings you into existence, you are owed a chance to thrive. In return, you owe the same to any people or creatures you agree to take guardianship over.
The issue is not that we, and others, and the world in general, owe each other. We are all born being owed certain things, and by living we acquire debts; life requires this interdependence to thrive. The issue is that we are often misled as to what this actually means, by those who would take advantage of us. We are lied to by authority figures who do not want to respect us, or acknowledge their responsibility to us. Worse: we mistakenly come to believe that taking advantage of others is the key to restoring balance. We were cheated, so others must be cheated in turn.Â
We trap ourselves in these deadly cycles. Society betrays us so we are taught to disengage, to break it further. We are taught to forget the value of repair. We are taught to forget what is owed. Fundamentally, we are taught to forget that people are owed basic decency. When we say we owe the world nothing, we forget we are affirming the opposite: the world owes us nothing in return.
But this is so incredibly untrue. We owe the world things, and are owed in return, and that’s good, that is so so good. I would hate to live in a world where I didn’t believe people were fundamentally owed dignity and decency and kindness. The real issue is that these things often go unpaid, and unreciprocated. We think: “The world gave me nothing, though it should have. Why should I owe anything?”Â
And that is such a dangerous way to think. That type of thought just turns you into another gear in a destructive machine. That type of thought just allows despair to self-replicate. That type of thought validates the abusers and ensures there is never a shortage of victims. Feed those kinds of thoughts, and a plug gets pulled somewhere inside you, and lets the humanity drain away. You lose everything, trying to steal from others what was stolen from you. You cheat yourself and the world, with that kind of thinking.Â
I promise you this: When we try to balance the scales by refusing to pay forward what wasn’t paid to us, we just double the debt and burden the world in the process. A better world requires that we first do better.

THIS SHOW IS SO PURE!
It’s worth noting that Kenneth spent the entire episode making the game (and the subsequent fight) as inclusive as possible for JJ and his disabled friends (all of whom were played by disabled actors/actresses).

mental health tips i wish i’d been given before starting university
trying is much more important than succeeding
10 minutes of studying > not studying at all
being a college student is more than academics. it’s also learning how to enjoy your own company, learning and occasionally screwing up meals, wandering outside campus like a tourist, questioning your ideals and presuppositions, discovering new talents and skills for the hell of it, and SO much more. if you feel burnt out in one dimension of college life, that’s a sign to spend some time relishing in another dimension.
if you need more time, take a deep breath and shoot that email to your professor/TA asking for an extension. at worst, they say no. and don’t stress over properly explaining yourself/your situation. hell, just email them: “Hi, Professor. I need your help. Sincerely, y/n.” all it takes is that one initial reach out and the rest will follow.
failure does not reflect character. read that again. remind yourself as often as you see fit because at one point or another, you will feel like you’ve failed. it’s growing pains. once you’ve accepted that, learn to view any setbacks as a hint that you need to try a new method/approach. didn’t do well on that math quiz? don’t beat yourself up over it–instead, regroup with yourself and see which metaphorical gear got stuck in your personal learning process machine. for instance, maybe you used flash cards and that wasn’t really your style. act like a detective, not a bully.
THERE IS NO NORMAL TIMELINE FOR YOUR COLLEGE CAREER(!!!!!!). a lot of people need more than 4 years, a lot of people need 4 years, and a lot of people need less than 4 years. and every single one of those timelines are valid. the worst thing you could do is squeeze the living hell out of yourself into some rigid schedule that is incompatible with who you are and how you learn. trust me when i say u will find yourself doing the best work when u do it at YOUR pace.

The Outbursts of Everett True was a comic strip that ran in papers from 1905 to 1927, wherein the aforementioned Everett True regularly beat the everliving shit out of rude people as a warning to anyone else who might consider being rude. Men have not only been taking up too much room on public transport for about as long as public transport has existed, but the people around them have been irritated about it for at least a hundred years. The next time someone tries to claim that manspreading is a false phenomenon, please direct them to this strip so that Everett True can correct their misconceptions with an umbrella upside the head.

If you are currently experiencing disappointment, pain or frustration because something did not work out the way you hoped it would, I want you to hear this: If it was not meant to be, there is something out there that is. Something bigger. Something more exciting. Something more special. Something that will heal your soul in a much kinder and softer way. Whatever it is that did not work out, I understand that the pain might be unbearable right now, but it will be lighter, it will be easier to carry and soon you will be happier than you have ever been before, I promise. Be patient, my love, better things are coming.

i cant think of the fact that humans send messages saying ’where are you? who are you?’ from earth to the giant and empty space all around us for too long because it makes me cry so hard and feel so human and lonely

executive dysfunction is telling yourself for two and a half hours that you need to shower bc you smell like your workplace and you absolutely Cannot do Anything Else until you shower, doing Any Other Thing before showering is illegal!!! but you still haven’t for some reason??? you’ve just been sitting on your bed in a towel scrolling tumblr for 2+ hours thinking “I need to shower right now immediately” and growing increasingly frustrated that you are still not clean and you haven’t eaten or done your laundry either
