ANNOUNCING: RHYTHMS is the second concert in a four-part Pilot Series presented by MAS_ (Melbourne Amplified Strings) for 2019. Curated by electric violinist/vocalist Xani Kolac, RHYTHMS is a fresh look at amplified string playing involving electronic effects, live looping and laptop to perform intricate rhythms and grooves. Broken into two halves, MAS_ will explore fire, water, wind and earth and the sounds of changes to our urban and natural environments. Borrowing from RnB and pop worlds this will be contemporary string playing at its most explorative and innovative. Our first of four concerts for 2019 is AUTUMN IDENTITIES curated by MAS_ member Anita Quayle (cello) and inspired by her recent trip to several places around the world. Accompanied by place-specific field recordings and visuals of her journey, Anita has created a set of new material featuring improvisations by amplified string trio.

Preceding this Global Wanderlust is a special set in collaboration with Wiradjuri Soprano Shauntai Batzke. MAS_ have arranged music that means something to Shauntai including works by Leonard Cohen, Whitney Houston and more.
