Artist Statement
My practice during this module has shifted into a more vivid digital style. I feel it is important to try new things whilst exploring my practice, in particular my colour palette has shifted from a limited palette of black white and red, to a more punchy neon colour scheme. By shifting my style from a more painterly practice to a digital platform, I can expand my audience and create work that everyone can connect with.

Final Toilet Seats
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These seats were quite difficult to install as naturally toilet seats aren’t meant to be hung up. At first I used heavy duty Velcro on the four points of contact on the seat to attach it to the wall and I thought they were secure enough as they all seemed quite solid to the wall. However, when I came in the following morning the last seat was on the floor as the Velcro didn’t hold properly at one point. I tried to restick it however the same thing happened and this time it cracked the seat.
With help from Andy we came up with a creative solution to secure the seats to the wall. We used screws and parts of the installation kit for the seat to fit the screw through and hang it on the wall. To ensure the work was cohesive and looked sleek we took the first seat off rehung it so it balanced out the work.
Once it was completely secure I was able to take a step back and evaluate the final work and I feel the piece works well together. The circular mirror in the middle compliments the rounded edges of the seat lid and elevates the work.

Final Warhol Prints

It was hard picking my favourite out of my appropriated edits as I did have quite a lot, however I think the three images above work cohesively together and compliment each other well. Each image is strong on its own but I think they come together to create a triptych that packs a punch.

Float Print
This print was created whilst screen printing the toilet seats, as there was a slight issue after changing printing inks from pink to this lavender colour above. When I went to pull the ink originally over the toilet seat there were streaks of pink and it was slightly out of line almost like a ghost print on top. Luckily as the toilet seat is so smooth it was easy to wipe off and start again, however I decided to float print on scrap paper to ensure the prints would pull properly. This above print is the outcome of that.

Toilet Seat Screen Print. This will be my final work for this module. However I will add mirrors to the inside of the seats to essentially poke fun at the viewer for taking the time to view the work. “You’re Taking The Piss” is in reference to the general public taking the time to look at contemporary art even though they may not understand or like it.

“You’r Taking The Piss” toilet projection work.

Whilst putting this together I had to rejig the projector quite a bit in order to line the text up correctly over the toilet. Although at that time I didn’t have anything to told the toilet up on the wall (which I think might’ve made for a better final result) I am still happy with the idea of housing the seat on top of a plinth. I think this subconsciously plays with the idea of putting “shit art” on a pedestal making it more adorned than traditional art.
Although annoyingly the text is spelt wrong (forgetting the e in you’re) I think this actually adds to the overall effect of the work, as it is putting a humorous twist on what a lot of non contemporary art critics or the general public think of readymade art like this. This will be the bare bones of my final piece taking that text and screen printing it over the toilet seats.

Warhol Appropriated Works Overlays

I had a lot of fun playing about with the two images changing opacity and colours to merge the two portraits together. Looking at them I feel the two images slotted perfectly together resulting in very quirky finished work. I feel the first two are the most successful but it was interesting working with different tones etc to create the other pieces. This process is definitely something I want to continue with other imagery.

Warhol Appropriated Images

This was a very interesting process by using wildly different overlays on top of the already vivid image. I think I made other more muted colours in the original image pop and I think this especially worked well with the blue overlay (third image) creating some lovely pink and purple tones which pops alongside the yellow and teal shade around the eyes.
