As I was working till the very end, trying to create and animate the animation, I wasn’t able to record my own sound. I managed to record a few but not enough to complete the animation. Luckily I was able to use https://www.freesound.org/ to help my animation

Going back full circle, to beginning of the year, where I was looking at different location, in which adventures can be had. Now that I have characters and a world set up, I am able to create images with context.

TITLE SEQUENCE

Adding text to the animation

Looking at way to add my name and title of animation to the animation.

I decided to call the animation “The Unexpected Adventures: Mystical Island”, as it is meant to be apart of a series of work. This animation in particular is called “Mystical island” which is first installment of “The Unexpected Adventures”. I started working on one of the other episode a while back, where the penguin is struggling to catch a big fish, but stopped working on that to start working on the narrative of how the explorer got there first.

This leaves this project open for more adventures and can be something I can work on after I graduate.

CLOSE UP OF ICE CUBES

As I spent a lot of time animating these cubes, I thought that they need to be seen so I added a close up of the ice cubes moving, which will run for about a second. So these are test to see which is better way to transition the two clips together

MAP BLOWING AWAY

Looking at the sequence of event for the map scene

using the slightest change in sequence. I feel either would work, but both need to extend a bit in clips.

PUSHING BOX

Added more detail

Added detail the box as it looked like block and did not fit well with the animation.

SEQUENCE

Looking at what order to place the animation in.

I originally wanted the first scene to be a cut of the penguin running for the boat, as if he was running late, but with the other animations I had and shots I wanted it didn’t make sense for it to be first.

penguin runs for the boat, then slows down and walks behind the penguin pushing a crate of fish onto the boat.

the first shot doesn’t make sense because the penguin is pushing the crate onto the boat and then shot changes to the boat, but there is no crate. So for continuity purpose this sequence does not work

So it either between the second or last.

But the last one I feel jumps too quickly between scenes, it shows the penguin coming of the boat but the he disappears quickly. Also because the penguin pushing the crate is half way on the boat it should really be seen in the shot of the back of the boat. With the amount of time I have left, there is not enough time to animate that.

CLEANING THE WINDOW

Penguin cleaning the window of the fixed boat.

To speed the production of the animation, I drew out 5 frames; one of the arm and the rest of the head/body moving. I then moved the arm frame by frame using after effects and after that moved to photoshop to add the detail line to the arm.

I think this definitely made production faster, as I would have have to colour and add detail or cloth for every frame. This way all I had to do was add the arm, how ever editing the arm in, still took a lot of time

MOVING ICE CUBES

Adding movement to the ice cube in the cup.

I thought it would be a nice detail to see the ice cubes moving around in the cup. So I was looking at different ways to show the detail of movement

added some transparency to the liquid in the cup. (You can’t really tell on the white background, it is more visible when there is a background behind)

erased line around the cubes and added placement of cube; some are behind the straw and some are in front.

*UPDATE

When i added this to the moving penguin that is walking, it makes it hard to see the ice cubes moving. The ice cubes just look like they aren’t moving.

The animation have been loop, but to make it look like it it painting I had to animate the brush strokes separately to fit the direction of motion.

REVERSE PORTAL

Traveling back through the portal.

For this animation, I have to fade the penguins out as the camera moved further away. This was to give the illusion of movement, as the background slowly disappears so should the penguins.
