Bex’s smile grew just a bit at her words, and she was embarrassed to admit to herself the amount of relief that flooded through her to hear that Mellie did want her around, and she didn’t completely misread everything that happened between them. “You really don’t give yourself enough credit. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you since I left your place. You are literally the only company I’d want to be with right now,” she said, quietly, leaning in just a bit over the counter. Giving her another small smile, Bex nodded her head before turning around and picking a table over in the corner of the little shop.
Mellie blushed. “Well thank ya sugar.” She was glad that they had met that morning of the parade and even more that Bex wasn’t just a fantasy or. dream or some ill fated one night stand. The hope and the possibility that sprung from her walking through the bakery door filled Mellie with the kinds of butterflies she hadn’t really ever had before, and that’s what had her simultaneously nervous and thrilled. As she cut two slices she let Carl know she was gonna be done for the day so not to bug her anymore and she carried the two plates over to the table Bex had chosen. “Here ya are honey. Now I will not get my feelin’s hurt if ya don’t like it so please don’t feel like ya gotta.”

“Mellie, you are an absolute angel, I really, really mean it,” Kore said with the most sincerest of grateful smiles. She truly admired how hard she worked and always putting in 110% into what she did. “It’s definitely special, Mellie, you put so much heart into what you do!”
“Oh well thank ya sugar. I am just tryin’ to make my mama proud that’s all.” Mellie nodded. She was happy to have been able to have baked with the woman all those years and she hoped becoming a real baker was something that made her smile down on her from up above.

Daisy laughed. “I ain’t no sappy sue. Don’t you dare go holdin’ this against me now.” She happily accepted Mellie’s arm around her shoulder, wrapping her own around the other’s waist. It had been a truly beautiful night, and one she doubted she’d ever forget. “Have fun, honey?”
“Alright alright. Don’t get your knickers in a twist I was just playin’ with ya sugar.” Mellie chuckled soft and light. She was happy to have been there and to see the wedding. She was truly happy for Apollo and Madelyn and they had an amazing day. As she walked out arm in arm with her best friend Mellie nodded. “I did hun. I love seeing people in love and watchin’ em be together so I was just real happy to be there.”

“Alright sappy sue let’s get ya on home sugar.” Mellie laughed as she wrapped an arm around Daisy’s shoulders heading towards the exit of the wedding venue. She had an amazing time and was so happy to be at the wedding and see all the love in the air.

“How could anyone ever get bored of your pies? No one gets tired of the classics,” she said. “Although I can’t deny, you’ve really hit a home run with this one, sugar.” She let out a laugh. “Thank for lettin’ me be your lab rat,” she teased, although she was always more than happy to try Mellie’s baking. “People are gonna go crazy over it, I can already tell.” She took another large bite, her face reflecting the satisfaction it brought her. It really was amazing how food could change a person’s entire mood. “Well, honey bee, your mama was one hell of a baker but she never made anythin’ quite like this. I’m sure she’s proud as can be.”
“Of course honey bee you’re the only one I can tell if ya lyin’ to me or not.” Mellie laughed. “And i gotta make sure these are perfect I won’t settle for nothin’ less than that.” Mellie grinned as she cut another slice for herself taking a bite. It was damn good. “Well I sure hope so we gotta get more people in here.” She admitted with a shrug. Less people now they’re all out and about everywhere.” Mellie blushed. “Well thank you, that’s might kind of ya.”

Daisy’s mouth was practically watering already from just the sight and smell of the slice of pie that was slid to her. But at Mellie’s words, Daisy raised an eyebrow. “New recipe?” She asked skeptically. Some things never needed to change, and Mellie’s pie recipes were seemingly one of those things. After all, why mess with perfection? “Alright, sugar, let’s see how spicy you’ve become,” she teased, picking up her fork and bringing a sizeable helping of pie to her mouth. All of her hesitations instantly melted away as the flavors exploded harmoniously in her mouth, her eyes growing wide with happiness as she savored it all. “Well, I do declare that is just about the best pie you’ve ever made, Mel,” Daisy finally said, happily bringing raising her fork for another bite. “Feelin’ inspired, are ya?”
“I know I know sugar but ya gotta understand that I need to do somethin’ to spice things up or people will get bored and I don’t want no one gettin’ bored of my pies.” Mellie pointed out to her. SHe waited until she saw the familiar smile of approval from Daisy and Mellie grinned widely. “Perfect now I know they’re good I’ll put ‘em out for everyone to enjoy.” She was beaming with pride and at the question she shrugged. “I reckon so I don’t know I’ve been thinking about mama a lot lately.”

Bex raised an eyebrow ever so slightly at her words. Had Bex been reading this the situation wrong? Though it seemed Mellie was excited to see her, maybe all she really wanted that day was a casual thing. But she wouldn’t let her worries get to her. She simply kept the small little smirk on her face and nodded her head, “I told you I can struggle with self control. Have a tendency to be …impulsive,” she stated with a little shrug, before pointing at the cherry pie she had suggested. “Can’t say no to that. Cherry pie it is.”
Mellie blushed. “I just meant I don’t reckon I’m that great of company but I mean I’m real glad ya did come in.” SHe knew she was a basket case Mellie had been hurt so many times she was unsure of how to behave normally around women she actually liked. “But I mean I am mighty happy to be spendin’ time with ya.” Mellie wanted to facepalm herself at this point. “Perfect I’ll get us a couple of slices and you can pick whatever table ya like.” Mellie offered not able to wipe the bashful grin from her lips.

“Honest to the gods, it really does! If there’s one food I’d eat forever, it would definitely be a cherry pie,” Kore mused with a big smile. She could tell that Mellie was just one of those people who put their heart into what they do, that was what made her pies amazing, after all. “Oh? Why do you say that?” She asked curiously. “I hope I’m not prying by the way.”
“Well sugar you can come in here just about any time you’d like and I’ll always have a cherry slice just right for ya.” Mellie nodded. She loved herself a good cherry pie lover and she liked the bright energy this girl had. “I just bake the pies that’s all it ain’t nothin’ special.” Mellie chuckled.

Mellie s;id a slice of pie across the counter to her best friend. “It’s a new recipe tell me what ya think.” Mellie explained as she waited watching Daisy. Mellie knew her so well she could read her face like a book if Daisy didn’t like it or if she loved it Mellie would know. “I’ve been trying some new things to spice things up.” She explained further hoping it all made sense.

“Free pie and your company? Shit, it is my lucky day,” Bex said with a small little smile, before she tore her gaze away from Mellie’s face and the cute redness that came over her cheeks to look over the pie selections. Bex raised an eyebrow. Honestly, all of the pies in front of her looked amazing, she didn’t know how to choose. So she looked back up at Mellie with a grin. “Which one is your favorite? Whatever it is, that’s the one I want.”
“Well don’t puttin’ the cart before the horse now sugar.” Mellie pointed out. She was sure that she was eager to hang out with Bex but part of Mellie felt an imposter syndrome like Bex would soon discover she was not as great as the woman thought that she was. “Hmmm” Mellie tapped her chin as she looked through the selection. “Well I gotta tell ya sugar I do love me some cherry pie. So if ya like cherries then that’s the one for ya.”

When Mellie turned around, and Bex was actually able to see her gorgeous face, she felt like her knees go weak. How had she let so much time go by without making it here to see her. She was just as mesmerizing as she was that day at the parade. Bex raised a shoulder, nonchalantly, smirking. “Rumor has it, I can get the best pies this side of the Mississippi here, made by one badass, beautiful baker. Had to come check it out.”
Mellie was glad that Bex had come by. WHile she had been trying not to get her hopes too high that the other woman would come to visit her, she was definitely glad that she had and was happy to see her in the shop. “Well I can’t deny facts and that’s definitely facts sugar what kind of pie d’ya like? On the house of course. I just might even join ya since I’m about done for the day.” Mellie grinned with a blush at her continued compliments still unable to fully believe it was real.

Kore’s eyes lit up in excitement, “Oh my gods, isn’t it amazing?! I always get slices from here because the cherry pies just have a little something special in it. All the pies in here do, really!” As the pie was handed to her, she fished out the exact amount of money from her pocket, plus a little extra tip. “Thank you again, miss. You really make this place amazing!” She grinned.
Mellie chuckled slightly as Kore mentioned that she loved cherry pies something extra. Mellie loved herself some cherry pie something extra too so she understood that. “Well I am glad ya like ‘em sugar. That’s what makes it worth gettin’ up in the mornin’ for.” Mellie loved baking pies but what she loved more was making pies and watching people enjoy them. “Oh I don’t know about none of that sugar.” Mellie shook her head with a sigh.
