refreshing summer beverage game changer...

I know i'm getting kind of obsessive here, but it bothered me that every person who tried the melon also independently commented on its lack of sweetness. Almost every description and review of these melons remarks on how sweet and flavorful they are

I found out it's pretty inexpensive to get a refractometer and measure the sugar concentration >_>

Melons don't become sweeter after harvest, the point of ripening is to develop the softness and flavor. So any error on my part w/ ripening time shouldn't have affected the sweetness.

I reached out to the company I bought it from to see what the expected sweetness is (1 degree brix = 1g sucrose dissolved per 100g of solution)

For reference, an average cantaloupe seems to be around 12 brix.

Here was the result of testing some juice from my crown melon:

(Sorry for the poor picture, it was hard to point the camera through the little scope :b) but it reads just under 10 brix... That about lines up with my initial impression (decent for an ordinary melon, but not even the sweetest)

i know i know im making a stupid deal about this but I kinda don't know what happened? It was very pricey, and I'm under the impression they spend an insane amount of effort raising these melons to be perfect. They do have ultra high end non-destructive brix meters that allow them to test sugar content during growth

This was all just for peace of mind, I wouldn't feel right complaining to the company or anything like that. I wanted to know if my perception was off, or there was something off about my melon somehow... At least i'm kind of vindicated in my disappointment? The appearance, juiciness, and texture were still all excellent though. Oh well

My cosplay from Sunday at a local theater! They were playing the black jack movie and I HAD to dress up like him again. I passed out stickers of pinoko smoking a blunt made by @meloncolle!
