I'm volunteering for a literary journal right now and there's two things I think you all should know.

1. Most people that submit to literary journals are cis white men. We know this because our journal has an anonymous survey about demographics for people that submit.

2. Most things that get submitted to the creative non fiction section are on the level of middle school "What I did over the summer" essays.

I cannot see the demographics of the people whose essays I'm reading, but guys, if you are wondering if you should submit your work to a literary journal or not, I promise you that just in terms of statistics there are a lot of mediocre cis white men and people in general confidently submitting weird crap that isn't literature to literature magazines. Do it. Submit your work. Please. If you want there to be more diversity in literature, be the diversity. Do it. Do it do it do it.

being anti ai is making me feel like in going insane. "you asked for thoughts about your characters backstory and i put it into chat gpt for ideas". studies have proven its making people dumber. "i asked ai to generate this meal plan". its causing water shortages where its data centers are built. "ill generate some pictures for the dnd campaign". its spreading misinformation. "meta, generate an image of this guy doing something stupid". its trained off stolen images, writing, video, audio. "i was talking with my snapchat ai-" theres no way to verify what its doing with the information it collects. "youtube is impletmenting ai based age verification". my work has an entire graphics media department and has still put ai generated motivational posters up everywhere. ai playlists. ai facial verification. google ai microsoft ai meta ai snapchat ai. everyone treats it as a novelty. every treats it as a mandatory part of life. am i the only one who sees it? am i paranoid? am i going insane? jesus fucking christ. if i have to hear one more "well at least-" "but it does-" "but you can-" im about to lose it. i shouldnt have to jump through hoops to avoid the evil machine. have you no principles? no goddamn spine? am i the weird one here?

Im a bit new to the comics, but im in the middle of my Batgirl 2000 read, and the further I get, the more pissed i get at the fancanon for her.

Shes speaking. So. So much in these later issues. She keeps a diary purely from voice recordings. She's hilarious and quick-witted, and filled with spite and joy and determination and I think it's lame as hell and borderline racist that people refuse to let her speak in their fan content and instead badly insert ASL onto her like its not its own language.

I really love the nuance that Batgirl 2000 gives to all of Cass' parents. Bruce understands her implicitly, but misunderstands himself to the point that he can't see what she needs and is blind to their differences. What he thinks he needs must be what she needs, and he hurts her. Barbara can see Bruce's faults and knows what it is to be batgirl. She recognizes that Cass needs balance, needs a life out side of fighting. So of course she must know how Cass should live her life, what civilian life should look like when she finally gets over herself. What does it matter that Cass is uncomfortable in a bikini or reading doesn't come easy. And David Cain has abused Cass horrifically, so that he could have the perfect assassin. But he's also her dad, he dressed her up for her Big Day and he showed her the stars. Then Shiva, who is so absent but who gets why Cass feels the way she does. She has so few expectations from her, but wants so much and Shiva will never be able to live up to it.

They all fail her at some point, they all hurt her deeply. She loves them all. She's angry with them. They are different from each other. How, when they are so similar?

It's obvious who is worse, but there are similarities. I wish the details were a little more fresh so I could fully articulate my thoughts, but it's so clear that sometimes, love isn't enough. We will hurt the ones we love. Sometimes we will love the ones we hurt. But when are you doing one and when are you doing the other?
