Quests and Recruitment

General information:

Mason can be found at the Grub n’ Gulp Rest Stop. During the day, he will be found wandering around the premises, at night he will be sitting by one of the fires. While sitting, his unique rifle will be unequipped and laying beside him. It’s marked as an owned item, but it can be stolen. If you steal his rifle while detected, Mason will become hostile. If you steal the rifle undetected, it will change Mason’s dialogue. Both outcomes lock you out of recruiting him.

maybe i'm blinded by bias since i spent 5 years semi-shipping my new vegas oc with joshua, but... i just cannot get behind joshua/female courier ships. or maybe i just find it boring and therefore unappealing.

and, to be clear, i don't think it's realistic for joshua to end up in a romantic relationship at all, that's why i said "semi-shipping" when referring to my oc—i wanted to make my oc and his interactions in the wasteland as realistic and lore-compliant as possible. in context to the narrative, joshua is not romantically available, which is why i've tread very carefully in detailing the intricacies of the dynamic between my oc and joshua.

but to go back to the "boring and unappealing" aspect: i think having to confront a lovestruck male courier that joshua may have admittedly developed a somewhat reciprocal closer-than-friendship fondness for is far more engaging than a female courier. because, well, joshua's a fuckin' mormon, innhe? there's an inherent conflict there.

i'm unfailingly drawn to the dramatic and difficult ships.

but the people that actually put in the effort to vote and were like "let me throw my ballot in the garbage for the grifter 3rd party that will disappear from public spaces and public consciousness as soon as they inevitably lose": you voted for trump. you did. you took your time and your vote and moved the needle to nowhere

if you want a left leaning shift to happen in the country and government, you have to move that compass. not throw it in the garbage. and sometimes that means pushing back against the rightwing wave shift in small ways, like voting for kamala harris (unfortunately)

i genuinely don't know what this country is going to look like after this. probably cheering and thinking it's so progressive when we someday get abortion legalized again. the previous standards we fought for and won are going to be something we have to fight for and win again
