buster jones had never been particularly good at setting his priorities straight.   it was the reason he’d come home with crumpled report cards in hand to shamefully show his mother and also the reason he could never hold a job for longer than a few months.   but buster knew that life was short and even more so in their current situation.   he had no intention of dying in the apartment complex, he’d already made extravagant promises to his friend about all the things they would do after they survived it all.   however, he did have a bucket list of things he would want to do if he just happened to not survive it all.   one said item stood a single locked door away from them and he didn’t think security would be concerned about breaking and entering at this point.

with a final jostle of the makeshift key,   he swung the pale blue door wide open.   a strong waft of chlorine filled the dimly lit hallway and his grin only widened.      “   told you i could do it !   ”      buster swiftly turned on his heels and held an expectant palm out to dylan.     “   you owe me ten bucks,   and if you don’t have ten bucks,   you owe me an e-transfer.  ”     he paused to really consider their situation for a moment and then shook his head as he reconsidered.     “   actually,   nevermind.   i’ll make it an easier payment.   if you get bit you have to promise that you won’t come for me first.   even though i know i look scrumptious and juicy.   ”     his arms shot out to grip her shoulders sternly and he levelled his eyes with hers.     “   you have to resist me and my charm,   okay ?   stay strong dill. ”

buster didn’t wait for her response and turned back to the open door.   there was a skip in his step as he led @avichor across cold tile and past another set of heavy metal doors to reveal his true destination.   the apartment pool had clearly been abandoned mid-use.   a stray pool noodle slumped half-sunken in one corner and a paddle board floated ominously in the middle.   none of it seemed to deter buster from his mission.   if he was going to potentially spend his last days in the apartment complex,   might as well make the most of it.   without warning,   he started into a sprint and hurled himself over the edge of the pool,   landing in the cold water with a shrill scream.   his teeth chattered as he surfaced but he forced a smile on his face.     “   c-come on,   it-it’s great !   th-the water’s per-perfect !   ”

being insane about her already and she doesn’t even have a name yet

since we’re talking vampires on dash after watching sinners all I’ve been thinking about is a south asian vampire with south asian infused lore so imagine….

thinking about her again and some notes below:

really into gothic horror lately so I’m thinking of leaning into that, esp with south asian gothic being so rarely tapped into

her story originates from the British rule in India, known as the British raj

she practiced ayurvedic medicine in her village but was never formally known as a practitioner (was known formally as a midwife) despite having the same level of knowledge and skill

after a particularly difficult case where she had practically revived a patient on the brink of death she had gained recognition and popularity and her clientele quickly grew

this led her to being invited to the home of the governor-in-council to tend to his ill pregnant wife

she quickly found out this was his wife’s request and the governor in council was highly suspicious of her methods and medicine. often insinuating black magic in her work

when his wife died during labour he accused her of witchcraft. three nights later, when she was asleep in her chamber and a night before she was supposed to head back into her village he set her room on fire and locked her in

she only managed to escape through a window despite being two storeys above ground

mangled and burnt she crawled just outside the property lines before succumbing to darkness near a small pond

she’s saved by a man in a travelling carriage passing by and only when she awakens fully, after being in and out of sleep for about a week does she realize she’s been turned

the vampire who turned her allows to stay for as long as she pleases like it’s her own residence and after a year she finally goes off on her own

will figure out the in between years later 🤪

she returns to her ayurvedic medicine in recent years and opens a natural pharmacy. however it’s primarily a front for vampires looking to feed on willing human victims. she provides supplements to the humans for them to enjoy the process as much as the vampires do

her pharmacy is often the target for vampire hunter raids and is home to seedier businesses as well

noemi’s tall drink had begun sweating and she had yet to take her first swig of the liquor. her attention was fixed on something — no, someone — else. at the far end of the bar sat a half elf. not something that would otherwise be anything out of the norm if not for the heavy pendant around her neck. it pulsed with each breath the elf took and every so often the flickering lights of the tavern glinted off the crest, allowing her to make out another detail of the twisting shapes on its surface. when the crowd thinned and noemi had decided she had stared for long enough to make her assessment, she crossed the distance and pulled out a stool beside the hunter.

her still-full glass hit the counter hard and the bubbly liquid sloshed over the rim, but noemi paid no mind to the mess she had created. instead she propped her elbow right onto the sticky puddle and rested her chin on her knuckles. “ it’s been a long while since I’ve seen an avia. ” as a royal guard, noemi’s job hinged on knowing the warrior families in their surrounding lands. she had heard of the tragic decimation of their family and until now, had assumed the sole survivor had been one of the brothers. she was happy to be wrong for once. a curtain of dark hair tumbled off her shoulder as she cocked her head to unabashedly study @baroviana. “ what exactly brings you around these parts ? quite a ways away from faerun. ”
