“ do you really think so little of me? ” this time, he suppresses a smile and offers instead a deadpan delivery, “ or was it, perhaps, wishful thinking? ” he leans back in his seat, still looking at the weequay with the same blank expression. he’s found that it usually makes people sweat when you deny them the unspoken etiquette and social niceties they’ve come to expect - not that Hondo wasn’t used to dealing with people of a less … civilized type, but still, it wouldn’t hurt to test him a little; to throw in a some uncertainty and observe the reaction. uncomfortable people often let slip more than they intended.

i know that in phantom menace, maul's presence (in-universe) was largely meant as a way for sidious to go 'what's up, motherfuckers, the sith are back' without putting himself at risk, but despite that I really don't feel like ayru would go around and announce that afterwards.

like, revealing to people that he's part of the evil space cult would certainly be cathartic to him, but he doesn't want sidious or the jedi on his ass so I think it, along with his sith name, is probably something he keeps hidden from most people. I also think he'd be careful about openly using the force around most people.

most people who know of him (but aren't close to him) probably just know him as a very efficient bounty hunter and assassin who operates on the edge of legality.

the one very rare exception would be if someone who watched the live streamed cog hive seven cage fights recognized him, but even then they wouldn't know who he really is.

I don't wanna boil it down to just daddy issues, but I feel like ayru definitely gravitates towards people older than himself for romantic partners. romance isn't something he actively seeks out at all, but he's naturally a very caring person in general (not pulling this out of my ass btw, it's a thing in several of the books he's in), and he often ends up finding himself in situationships without really knowing how he got there.
