Dear Andrew,

Before you even knew how to walk, you learnt that not all houses are home. You learnt that mothers don’t always love their child and blood is not always thicker than water. Hands were never meant to be fists and closed doors were supposed to stay closed. No was supposed to be a sentence. Voice was your only weapon till you learnt a single word couldn't save you.

Before you even found your place in the world, you were already searching for a way out. Numbness, you thought, has to be better than whatever it was you were feeling so you decided to let them flow instead. Drip by drip, on your terms. Your arms, your canvas. Release came in the form of pain and for a long time, all you could see was red.

Before you even knew what trust meant, you decided that trust was not something worth knowing about. Tossed aside along with wants and needs and emotions because there's simply no room for vulnerability. Conscience forgotten, your apathy became your mask until he learnt to crack it with his smart mouth and lies and it's always a yes with you and just him, him, him.

Your memory was your enemy but your heart wasn’t. You longed for the blissful numbness of not remembering till he filled you with new memories. Your heart was just a heart till he held it tenderly between his scarred hands and called it his. You thought nothing was worth living for, and you never expected nothing to become him. You never had a home, but you still offered him one. You thought a pipe dream was all you deserved but he gave you a forever.
