The number one requirement to be cast as Starbuck in any form of media essentially is having the most yearning, longing and heartbroken gaze known to human kind in your reportoire. And fully reserved for your crazed captain. (Bonus points if your face automatically softens, whenever your respective Ahab is within eyeshot.)

most entertaining part of moby dick is watching ishmael break out the thumbtacks and string and explain to the readers his conspiracy theory about how every famous mythological monster slaying was actually a whale

Robin Buckley Appreciation Post
It has come to my attention that perhaps we are not appreciating the WLW rep we already have in Stranger Things and I would like to make an appreciation post for our girl, Robin Buckley.
People often talk about being annoyed by Robin, but she is so funny, clever and smart. Reminder that she taught herself to translate a Russian code and also cracked said code in two days. That’s dedication and crazy intelligence.
I love her awkward personality, she feels very real and she’s great comedic relief. She never has the right thing to say, but she’s never a detriment to the party. She always contributes and offers a fresh perspective. Her interactions with Nancy were a huge highlight of ST4 for me because they’re such a perfect balance of comedy and cunning.
Nancy is correct in her hunch, but looking in the wrong places. Robin redirects them to the right source to continue their research and without her they probably wouldn’t have followed that lead any further.
After a scene that almost proves they’re incompatible as friends or teammates we see them work together on a plan overnight.

Nancy takes the lead when getting them into the asylum, but are almost turned down. It’s not until Robin improvises the most insanely hilarious yet clever story that they are allowed to make contact with Victor Creel.
After their meeting, who connects the dots that music is the key? Robin. Her ability to put the pieces together in this scene literally saved Max’s life just in time.
All of this makes her a fantastic and entertaining character, but let’s talk about her as representation.
While it’s basic decency when approaching an LGBT character, they really don’t set her far apart from the rest of the group. It’s normalization. They also make it very explicit that she is queer, they don’t beat around the bush about it. They really made a great choice in having Nancy and her pair up, I think a lot of young people should look up to their relationship. Even though Nancy is unaware of Robin’s sexuality, I don’t think it would matter. Heterosexual-queer friendships should be more commonplace in a way that isn’t commoditizing or dehumanizing queer individuals.
Robin and Steve are a great example as well, with Steve demonstrating how to be a good ally and being exceptionally accepting for that time. Steve coaching her to go after Vickie is super supportive and her love plot line is given equal weight to the other love plot lines. While I hope ST5 fleshes Vickie out more, I think they did a good job with her introduction among the chaos of what was happening in Hawkins.
Overall, I have loved Robin since her introduction in ST3. I was excited for her character since she was announced and I think she’s just as integral to the plot as any other character. I’m really excited for what they have cooking up in ST5 with her and Joyce working together. I really hope to see more interactions with her and the rest of the party. She has always been equal parts humorous and helpful and I hope we really get to see her shine and get her own spotlight this season.
In conclusion,
Live, Laugh, Love, Robin

it is frustrating to be in a fandom where an interesting and narrratively significant female character seems to be widely popular, only to realize that actually most people are just going "wow cool sword girlboss" and not um. thinking about her point of view or internal life at all

i don’t understand people who love a problematic character but get angry when people mention the evil things that character did. like, that’s your man! he’s proud he did all that, support his hobbies!

My s5 predictions:
El uses her powers
Vecna does something evil
Mike walks somewhere
Someone does something at a certain point of the story
The finale is shocking and bittersweet
Robin is still a lesbian

A lot of people think that Eddie and Jonathan would be friends and I, personally, don’t.
I think that Jonathan would tolerate Eddie the same way he tolerates Steve (or more closely, the way he tolerates Dustin), and that they would be friendly.
Eddie is pretty extroverted and high-energy. I think that’d be really exhausting for Jonathan so they’re more like, better acquaintances than most but not besties.
Eddie and Argyle would definitely get along thought.

part of the reason I think it’s so sad that we collectively write so few stories about unrequited love is bc I feel like there’s very little public acknowledgment of how much it sucks to be the one somebody is in unrequited love with??? and not in a way of like, oh they’re crossing boundaries or putting expectations on me or whatever. becoming close friends with someone and then finding out they’re in love with you and you don’t love them back the same way is heartbreaking, bc a) someone you love is in pain and there is literally nothing you can do about it, and b) it usually means that whether you like it or not there’s going to be distance in your friendship that wasn’t there before as they try to get over you. idk man I just feel like we’ve all discussed the tragedy of loving someone who doesn’t love you back quite a lot and very rarely discuss the tragedy of finding out the way that you love someone just isn’t enough.

Between the No Kings protest and the We Got A Pope rally, Chicago's got a real wild vibe today.
I realize I don't hang out in super Catholic spaces much but I've never seen someone wearing a shirt with a photo of the Pope on it before and certainly not standing next to someone wearing a gothic lettered Protect Trans Kids shirt.
