` * EVENT 001 — HELLO, MIAMI !
it's january 2nd, but the air in miami still clings to a leftover bit of warmth, humid but not miserable. the sun is dipping just low enough to smear the sky in gold and sherbet when the dockside terrace begins to fill for THE WELCOME PARTY. the first few guests stream through in trickles, then all at once, like everyone's made a collective decision to show up just a little bit late.
the space fills up quickly; the terrace isn't huge, but the party is fenced off from the main chaos of the port with white wooden dividers and planters full of tropical greenery. the whole scene is cute, almost pleasing in its hospitality. the bar in the corner is large, designed with slatted wood and potted palms and bartenders who serve cocktails ( and mocktails ) sparkling with tiny flowers and unnecessary but terribly apt umbrellas. most people crowd there, and laughter rises above the gentle heartbeat of the party — a curated playlist, leaning into tropical house, indie pop, and the occasional unexpected early 2000s throwback. and if you pay close enough attention, you can smell the saltwater air that turns your hair a little frizzy, or even hear the occasional clank of cargo being loaded a few docks down. speaking of what's down at the docks . . . the meridian sits just across the way, less than a five-minute walk away if you really booked it. it looms huge, all polished decks and glass railings lit up against the darkening sky, almost a city waiting for its passengers. every once in a while, a guest catches themselves staring, like they cannot quite believe they'll be stepping aboard tomorrow. it's the eventual destination, but tonight ? this is where the story begins, and it seems people are already finding their footing. they all fall into place: the flirts, the wallflowers, the ones pretending not to people watch when they're clearly doing just that. can't help themselves, can they ?
TL;DR — on the evening of january 2nd, all the meridian's newest guests are invited to gather on a dockside terrace in miami for the pre-departure mixer the night before boarding the cruise. guests start mingling, and the social scene is already taking shape.
THINGS TO DO :
USE THE CONFESSIONS CHANNEL TO SUBMIT A ‘FIRST IMPRESSION’. somewhere near the entrance is a small table, draped in a white linen cloth and covered in vases stuffed with bright, tropical flowers. on it sits a wide glass bowl, and beside the bowl is a stack of thin, teal cards and a bunch of metallic. a handwritten sign ( made by someone with near perfect handwriting ) reads: first impressions count! write one anonymously ! you might just get one back. the instructions are easy enough: everyone's got the chance to jot down a first impression of someone they meet at the mixer. just a sentence or two, something sweet! ( or not, i guess. ) maybe it's something about the way they laugh, or the outfit that looked great on them, or how they seem like they'd be a fun partner in crime for the next few months. whatever the matter, once a card's written, it gets dropped into the bowl, and at the end of the night, people can pick theirs up. cute, right ?
FIND A TICKET. at some point in the evening, every guest will find a scratch-off ticket tucked into their pocket, slipped into their drink napkin, or handed to them by a passing server. each one reveals either a prize or a harmless dare when scratched, and which the muse receives will be picked at random (via dice roll/number picker). more information is here !
OOC INFORMATION — the event will take place on january 1st, 2025 in-character, but members may post event threads from ooc dates april 30th to may 4th, 2025. at this time, for the sake of allowing early character interactions all texts and threads unrelated to the event must still take place during the first week at sea. when the event is over, members may still complete event threads that have already begun, but cannot post new event starters.

sorry ‘nonnie, pets typically aren’t allowed on the voyage ( this unfortunately includes emotional support animals as well ). however, if your muse requires the assistance of a service animal, they will be allowed to have a pet on the ship. as always, we would like to remind everyone to take care in portraying the reason for their muses accommodations with care and respect !

muse 31 and muse 32 randomly ended up on the top deck during the pre-depature mixer — slightly tipsy, adrenaline buzzing — and made a drunken pact: before the semester ends, they have to complete ten ridiculous, ship-based dares together. it starts with harmless fun (like sneaking into a closed lounge), but as the dares escalate, both wonder why they're really still in it.

muse 33 and muse 34 knew each other prior to boarding the ship, and for whatever reason, their relationship — platonic or otherwise — ended badly. they haven't spoken in almost two years. surprise: they've been assigned to adjacent cabins, and share a very, very thin wall. old grudges are about to bubble up, especially when they suddenly keep running into each other on such a tiny ship.

muse 35 and muse 36 both secured the chance to join a high-profile field study course, thinking it would be prestigious and low-effort. turns out? the class has brutal physical challenges like early hikes, underwater research dives, and way more group assignments than they thought. they're used to working on their own, but are now stuck as reluctant partners, physically exhausted, half-hating and half-depending on each other just to survive the semester.

during the pre-departure mixer, typically unemotional muse 37 drunkenly confesses a deep personal secret to muse 38 — a stranger at the time — thinking they would never cross paths again. but the next morning? turns out they're classmates and have been assigned to the same group for a good amount of field excursions, and muse 38 is acting way too normal about it. tension brews when muse 37 can't shake their history of mistrust. is the secret safe? or is it leverage?

muse 39 is attending on a rare, highly competitive scholarship that requires them to keep a 4.0 GPA and serve as a model representative of the program. it's unfortunate, then, that muse 40, the person they've been trying to impress, is their polar opposite — carefree, partying, reckless. muse 39's future depends on staying clean, but they can't help but be drawn in to muse 40's, whose future depends on . . . well, seemingly nothing. so why are they starting to understand each other a little too well?

a wannabe influencer, muse 41, is secretly vlogging the entire trip for a future youtube series — without telling anyone they've captured some little secrets. equally enterprising, muse 42 accidentally finds out, but instead of snitching, they strike a deal: feature them for a popularity boost or else they blow the secret. blackmail or partnership? i guess we'll never know.
