So I just read this article about how people end up fucking up whatever task they’re doing when they feel like they’re being watched.  Scientists have discovered that the sense of being observed actually SHUTS OFF a part of the brain, the inferior parietal cortex.
Given the fact that women are constantly watched in our society, and we are constantly REMINDED that we are being watched by people making fun of fat, “ugly”, or gender-nonconforming women, it makes me wonder how many women have messed up important tasks or projects or just day-to-day activities because A PART OF OUR BRAIN is permanently being deactivated?
Like talk about a fucking handicap.
Women are constantly held under the microscope- whether we are attractive or unattractive, the gaze of patriarchy never ends.
Just last week I was walking my dog and bent over to literally pick up poop.  Suddenly I heard whistling and looked up cause I knew I was the only person around.  Sure enough, about 300 feet away, some construction worker was perched on top of a building, grinning at me and calling out stuff I luckily couldn’t hear because he was so goddamn far away.
I wonder what it does to women to have this constant source of stress hanging over us, each and every day, knowing we are being scrutinized and examined no matter what we’re doing.  I wonder how many more accomplishments, life-changing discoveries, inventions, etc would have been achieved by women if we didn’t have this constant brain-handicap imposed on us by men.

‘S—t’s getting really wild’: House Resolution 7 wants to revolutionize women’s healthcare to address ‘the needs of men’
(link)
Arizona Representative Andy Biggs has introduced a bill in Congress that seeks to set a new national standard for women’s healthcare that would prioritize “the needs of men, families, and communities” rather than women.
The bill was quietly introduced to the House on January 3 and has received little national attention. However, given that it outlines an idea to fundamentally change women’s healthcare nationwide, it’s quite a significant proposal. At first glance, it appears to be genuinely concerned with women’s healthcare, advocating for establishing Pro Women’s Healthcare Centers (PWHC) specifically for women and expanding women’s access to quality healthcare. A deeper look at the proposal, along with the PWHC booklet, though, reveals very troubling language and details. Rather than prioritizing the health, well-being, and livelihood of women, the bill envisions implementing these health centers nationwide to ensure that women have access to healthcare that is strictly pro-life, emphasizes “spirituality,” and prioritizes the needs of men.

my new conspiracy theory is that long fake nails are a completely artificial trend created to prevent women from doing anything with their hands. a form of hobbling, perhaps.

"marriage is the ONLY way to get these protections" "there is NO WAY to hack a legal arrangement to cover everything that marriage grants" "kiddos you don't remember what it was like before we could get married, we finally got rights because we could get married" Okay But You Recognize Why That's Bad, Right. Like that is really, really bad that you have to enter a specific type of relationship to get legal rights. That is A Problem. You recognize that that is Not A Good Thing, Right

fucking stop making it harder for young girls and women who are interested in/agree with radical feminism to be open about their beliefs.  stop scaring young girls and women away from an entire movement that actually prioritizes them.  stop encouraging and fueling the violent misogyny spewed at radical feminists.

The reason so many men think rape “is not that bad” is because they believe that being penetrated by a man is an intrinsic part of being a woman. They can’t understand why penetration could be such a traumatic event, even when it is forced upon the woman. That’s also what’s behind the notion that rape can only be truly traumatic to virgins. For a woman who has experienced penetration before, rape is just another regular day.

I feel like when Menstrual huts in Nepal are brought up to support arguments, they're dismissed because Americans and Euro-centric people have no experience with this kind of discrimination. They don't understand how much it fucks with your mind to be a woman segregated from her family for having a period.
Like, I am Nepali but I was born/raised in America, so I'm pretty used to the whole "gross but not super-shunned" American mindset on periods.
Four years ago, my father remarried a very traditional Nepali woman, and with her came her family.
My step-mother soon noticed when I would be on my period, since our whole family shares one bathroom and despite how I try to hide it, it's pretty obvious what I'm doing when I go to the bathroom tons of times a day. Her family began watching me whenever I went into the kitchen, I couldn't touch anything there or else I'd 'soil' it, I couldn't get a glass of water without being watched. I was told I couldn't sit on a certain side of the couch, couldn't enter certain rooms, and could not touch my baby brother or hug my father. Because I was on my period, and I was 'impure'.
Now like, that's not even a FRACTION of what some women in Nepal actually go through. Where they are forced out into huts with no heat, little to no food or water, no cleaning supplies, and are forced to stay inside for the duration of their periods. Many times women are raped and/or assaulted during this period.
There is such a depth to women's suffering that is glossed over by the rest of the world. It took me the tiniest bit of discrimination of this type to really be able to realize "hey, this is actually TERRIFYING".
And now I can imagine how little people truly care when they hear "Menstrual Huts" in an argument, because they have no experience with or knowledge of the subject. Truly, it's made me realize how much I fear for myself, my sister, and women all over the world. It's made me realize how much our natural bodies are hated and feared and disgusted. And how men control societies so much that they can create an entire tradition where our bodies and our lives are shamed and punished.
