As the days get shorter and October gets closer, so does our challenge to appreciate two marvelous things: Merlin and ink!

Don’t forget that artists are allowed to submit art for as many concepts as they like, and may choose to allow those concepts to be claimed by multiple writers. THIS MEANS that there will be plenty of art to go around for all writers!! Do not be shy in signing up!!

Please note that artists are allowed to submit art for as many concepts as they like, and may choose to allow those concepts to be claimed by multiple writers. THIS MEANS that there will be plenty of art to go around for all writers!! Do not be shy in signing up!!

Good news, Merlin fans! Sign ups for Kinkalot 2024 are officially open, and you know what that means: it’s time to let your kink flag fly! Signing up is as easy as 1, 2, 3… We’re back again for our 6th year filling the hole, greasing the wheels, turning the knobs, and getting ready for a hot, kinky summer of filthy PWP goodness. We hope you’ll join us this August! Just a few things we would like to note this year: We wanted to thank you all for all your support over the past five years of Kinkalotting as a competitive event. We appreciate all the enthusiasm and enjoyment you’ve brought to the fest! Unfortunately, due to other commitments we are unable to run the event in its current incarnation this year. We know that some of you will be disappointed as you were looking forward to participating in the fest again, or perhaps for joining in with the team event for the first time. We apologise for this, but never fear! We didn’t want to leave you all hanging with regards to a summer of kinky fun. So instead we have devised a Kinkalot Bingo challenge just for you! WHAT IS KINKALOT BINGO? - Kinkalot Bingo is an individual challenge where participants can complete as many, or as few squares as they’d like. No pressure! About Arthur and the grief that he wears like penance, how he fits so easily into the spot beside Merlin. How he always has, and how, for all his talk about leaving, he does not seem to be in a hurry. --- Between circus shows and late nights, Merlin and Arthur figure themselves out, one step at a time.

Respects him, sure. Admires his fighting prowess, yeah. Envies his freedom and pities his lack of it in equal parts. He'll follow him into battle and mostly follow orders as he does so, because chances are Arthur’s on the right side of a fight, and even if he isn't he's got Merlin to push him until he is. But he's more than capable of all that without actually liking the man. Or: Arthur and Gwaine search for Merlin during the deleted scene from A Servant of Two Masters.

FIC:TrebleMaker07 created A Time to Mourn, and a Time to Dance [Remix] for scotscookie (Merlin/Arthur – Explicit – 1478w) Summary: After a night of drinking with Morgana, Arthur goes home to wind down.

FIC:Ynnealay created The Best and Terrible (An Extended Remix) for linorien (Gen – Teen and Up – 30,691w) Summary: After meeting the Druids, Morgana cannot sit idly by while Uther’s tyranny against magic continues; but, taking action may put her in more danger than she can get out of alone. Meanwhile, Merlin struggles under the loneliness of his secret, and wonders who he’s destined to be. A story about working together, magic reveals going better than expected, and Uther Pendragon being the worst man ever.

FIC:merthurmagic025 created Where We Find Our Peace for queerofthedagger (Merlin/Arthur – Gen – 2687w) Summary: Arthur looked the most relaxed Merlin had ever seen him; his hair was a golden mop, glistening droplets of water traveling down the planes and angles of his face. Merlin’s eyes followed one, down the side of Arthur’s sculpted nose, reaching his plump lips where Arthur’s tongue darted out to catch it.

Merlin tore his eyes away and let his face break out into a bright grin as he looked into Arthur’s eyes. “You could’ve told me that we were going for a swim; I would’ve complained far less.”

Arthur rolled his eyes slightly. “I was going for a swim,” he replied, “you simply decided to follow me.”

Merlin has never thought about soulmates until they come knocking at his door in Ealdor. Convinced that there’s something wrong with the Soul Stone, he travels to magic-banned Camelot to end its influence. He never thought that he would be enraptured by the crown prince who comes to interrogate him.

He was not about to let Gwaine think he would ever consider him as a rival.

“Ah, well, that’s the problem right there, isn’t it. You never seem to want one, Arthur.”

Calling all Writing and Art Betas!

Are you a beta? Do you enjoy working with a writer to improve their work? Are you an artist who enjoys helping another artist improve their work? Well, then we have just the thing for you! We are looking for wonderful volunteers to help make our writers and artists big bangs as amazing as possible. You can sign up HERE. What is After Camlann Big Bang? It's a fandom fest that pairs writers with artists in order to create epic fanworks inspired by the world and characters of the BBC show, Merlin. Our Big Bangs have a minimum word requirement of 25k. But many are longer, so we would be asking our writing beta's to commit to a longer project than they may be used to, and our artists are asked to complete a minimum of 1 piece of art, but many complete several for the work. Check out the FAQs/Rules HERE. This round we have added the option to pull a 10-card Celtic Cross spread with your Tarot cards.

Basic Info: The Merlin Tarot Fest is a fanfic and fanart challenge using tarot and oracle cards as prompts. The fanworks do not need to focus on or even include tarot, but rather will be inspired by randomly pulled card(s). Each participant will be given their own card/card combination to inspire them! You will be able to decide if you want 1, 2, 3, 5, or 10 cards for your inspiration. You will also be able to choose your pull from a limited selection of different tarot & oracle decks.

Requirements: For fanfic, writers must write a story of at least 750 words. For fanart, artists must create at least 1 completed piece.

Posting will be open JULY 1 - SEPTEMBER 30

Posting will not be scheduled or assigned. All participants can post to the AO3 collection anytime within the allotted posting time frame. The collection is currently closed and will reopen on July 1st.

Summary: With a gasp, Arthur wakes.

He wakes to the warmth of the blankets around him, the sight of the stars above and Merlin’s hand grasping his. He wakes surrounded; by softness, by love, by light. Gasping in breaths, he wakes holding tightly onto Merlin’s hand, tethering himself to the word through that strong, sure grip.

He wakes and he’s not alone and everything's better.

He settles back down, his breath not quite steady yet, but getting there. He holds on tight to Merlin’s hand, looks up at the stars and lets himself drift back off to sleep, safe in the knowledge that he’s free.

Merlin and Arthur are held captive together for a month in the dark.

Back in Camelot now, the two face all they went through with the help of one another, their friends, and the night sky.

Summary: The battle of Camlann is now, and Arthur just manages to survive the battle thanks to the sacrifice of a sorcerer who had strangely taken Camelot's side. Meanwhile, Merlin thought he was dead but instead wakes up in Cenred's prison, the man in question having rescued Merlin to try and force him to join his army.

Not only does this force Arthur to swallow his pride and seek hugs from those who care from him, but also it turns his rationalist world view on its head. Despite all his best efforts to deny the fact, he's forced to confront the idea that maybe, just maybe, Merlin wasn't kidding about having magic after all.

Summary: Merlin is not in love with Arthur. Arthur is not in love with Merlin. It's as simple as that.
