During an anatomy lab once, whilst holding a human heart in my hands, I felt myself tear up and get a bit emotional. My anatomy professor looked at me with great confusion. He exclaimed "There’s no emotion to be found in this cardiac muscle! It’s simply the body’s sump pump!” Now, admittedly, I don’t really know the ins and outs of a sump pump but I’m going to have to respectfully disagree with this mundane comparison. Cat’s out of the bag!! I’ve been working very hard over the last few months to write a book which will be published by @soundstrue next year! 🎉🎊🎉 I’ve just finished the rough draft and even though there is a long way to go I am really excited and proud of the work I’ve done and can’t wait for it to be in the world! The process has been .... interesting While I’m by no means an expert here are some things I’ve learned about the writing process ✏️ You have to interact with it. It’s a relationship. Just thinking about it, having theoretical arguments with it or stewing won’t get you far. Open the damn document. Find your way through the tough stuff by interacting with it, engaging with it, showing up daily. However messy. ✏️ The thing you are procrastinating doing won’t actually take that long and is not that hard ✏️ Like meditation the writing session will vary- keep plugging away and stay awake and grateful for the grace or miracle to show up I can’t wait to share more with you soon- like more work from one of my illustrators @laurenrebbeck who is insanely talented and a true joy to work with! While I'd studied the practices of Yoga Nidra in the past, it always seemed to be just a useful tool of relaxing the body and mind; sometimes even an excuse to take what I thought of as a holier version of a nap. Only now was I beginning to realize it as more of a process of shaking up the stubborn certainty of our separateness. The last day of the year! The last day of the decade!!! Good Lord the pressure! What if we didn’t set any goals and intentions today What if this New Years Eve- we were enough What if instead of trying to change our entire life at the stroke of midnight we committed to keep returning to the wisdom of our own hearts What if instead of resolving to lose weight this year we resolved to untangle the programming that weighs us down telling us that somehow we are unworthy What if we resolved to soften, to listen and to luxuriate in the entirety of who we are. Nov 17 @yogasanctuarypg How to get Un-Stuck- An Exploration of the Diaphragms and Granthis Whether it’s a tight knotted muscle or a feeling of emotional blockage in our lives we know what it feels like to be stuck. While we like to talk about the physical and energetic bodies as if they are two separate entities they are actually deeply interwoven, interconnected and interdependent. If one of the four - yes there are 4!- muscle-y breathing diaphragms are stuck there is a great chance energetically you are preventing the free flow of prana that your body richly deserves. In this practice we will first discuss the four major diaphragms and where they are in the body; then we will move on to a practice that combines asana, pranayama and meditation practice to help free the knots that bind.
