Not-so-basic Beginner Friendly BOS ideas Pt.2
🦊How to clean different kinds of foraged items, feathers, coins, leaves, flowers, ect.
🦊How to safely use and dilute essential oils. How to safely use and work with tinctures.
🦊Recipes to make your own natural cleaners for your home/space. Bonus points if you incorporate magic.
🦊What do different kinds of energy feel like to YOU? Do you get pressure in your chest? Maybe a tingle in your hands? Describe it as best you can.
🦊Different methods you can use to help local wild life or the ecosystem. Bird feeders and the like, growing locally native plants, find out about some of your local volunteer groups, maybe list a couple places you could pick up trash, get involved with local politics.
🦊Look into the locations of where your ancestors hailed from. Is there anything there today that you feel drawn to see/visit or inspire your practice?
🦊Look into the religious background of your family, as far back as you'd like to but take notes. This will be important if you intend to do any ancestor work, and can actually be really interesting and inspiring for your craft.
🦊If you were left on a deserted island with nothing, how would you practice witchcraft?
🦊If you had unlimited resources, would your practice change to reflect that? If yes how so? If not, why? Would only a small part change, or would you 'go all out'? What are your beliefs regarding monetary vs spiritual value?
🦊Start a Shadow Journal. Write out anything that's been bothering you, be as detailed about each thing you list as you can. Then work through to find the root of each feeling. Much of our dislikes come from repressed parts of ourselves both negative and positive, finding these out and putting effort to bring it back into ourselves and accept it not only gives us better control over these feelings but it makes us better people in the process. My super basic start to shadow work.

〖Deity Communication〗
▸ Finding the Deities who want to work with you
▸ How to seek guidance from your Deities
▸ Meditation, Offerings, and other forms of communication
--
⛧ Finding Your Deity ⛧
First and foremost - before you can communicate with your Deity, you have to find the Deity who wishes to communicate with you!
There are many ways to do this, but the most important one is RESEARCH!
Look for signs and symbols in your every day life, especially those that repeat.
▸ Birds
▸ Flowers
▸ References on Social Media or in Pop Culture
▸ Synchronicities at certain times of day
▸ Repeating or short bursts of weather
These are just a few examples!
Your next step is to RESEARCH what you've seen!
If you've seen a lot of rainbows recently, Iris might be reaching out to you; lots of storms might indicate Zeus. Spots of greenery where they shouldn't exist could represent Persephone.
Alternatively, you might find ties to a Deity through your particular kind of witchery.
Green witchery might tie you to Demeter; if you're particularly good with matchmaking or similar spellwork, Hera might want to work with you. Death witches could work with Hades.
Again, research will help you find the right fit for you, but remember that Deities don't always have to be so cut and dry! They may be drawn to you for a variety of reasons, or they may not want to work with you if your personalities clash.
Don't forget to stay away from Deities in Closed Cultures, however! Be respectful of their practices, Deities, and methods of communication with said Deities.
--
⛧ Safety is Important ⛧
Having an idea ahead of time which Deity you're going to reach out to is helpful in the next step: Contacting your Deity!
However, if you're impatient or still aren't sure who's trying to speak with you, there are safe ways to reach out in a more general way.
DO NOT reach out generally during meditation without putting precautions in place.
You could potentially open yourself up to dangerous or harmful forces. Just asking to speak to whomever wants to talk to you is incredibly dangerous.
Put wards and protections in place beforehand. If you have another Deity, ask them to protect you as you reach out.
Never make yourself vulnerable to forces you are not familiar with. Please be careful.
Alternatively, if you'd like a straightforward answer from someone with a little more experience, I do offer three different Deity Communication Tarot Readings on Etsy or through DMs! Check them out if you're interested!
If you know the Deity you'd like to speak you, however, you can go about reaching out to them however you'd like!
--
⛧ Talk to Your Deity ⛧
Meditation is a great start (and I offer free beginner's classes on meditation and Deity Communication specifically, so if you don't know how, don't panic! Feel free to DM me to join)
Give yourself some alone time and just talk to the Deity. If you need a little more visualization, include it. Deity Communication can be fit to your meditation style, and if a Deity wishes to work with you, it'll help make matters easier!
Consider surrounding yourself with offerings for the Deity during meditation. You can learn about potential offerings through research - find out what the Deity is known for or represents, or ask other people who work with them what sort of offerings they like.
If you need more direct responses or don't want to wait around, Tarot or Pendulum Readings are a great way to go!
I personally prefer Tarot, since depending on your Pendulum set up, answers can be limited.
Tarot Readings can help you determine if working with a Deity is right for you. You have the opportunity to ask as many questions as you'd like about what they expect from you, how to pursue the relationship, and how they'd like to help.
As I said, Tarot Readings will help you get answers more quickly than Meditation; however, make sure you pull a confirmation card to make sure you're speaking to the right Deity!
As always, I hope this was helpful! Those are the basics, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask!
If you'd like to support my work or want help interpreting a Confirmation Card or Spread, check out my CashApp $vixplane or buy me a coffee.

Connecting with Deities for Beginners

First: religious or spiritual belief is entirely optional in witchcraft. Your own divinity and power to manifest does not reduce because you’re not throwing food at your altar for a “patron deity” every week. In fact, patron deities are a lot rarer than tumblr might have you believe. Allow this process to be what it is - a process. Allow time to discover your spiritual home. There’s no rush. You’ve lived lifetimes and you will live more.
If you feel called toward connecting with deity, here’s my advice: write. Writing forces you to slow your thinking down and truly consider your ideas, thoughts, and desires. Writing pieces of yourself down puts them into the universe.
Take these ideas into a journal that you’ve chosen with an intention to be a place for spiritual work. It can be a Book of Shadows or something else. Try these prompts - if you don’t know the answers to these questions, it’s an opportunity to dive into yourself!
1. Numbers: Are there numbers you’ve felt drawn to? Do you have any lucky numbers? Do things always work out the first time you try them, or does it seem to always take three - or seven? Do your relationships with others come in twos or fives? Does your birthday mean anything to you? What about your birth time, or place? If there’s a number you feel at home with, explore it! What deities are related to it? What direction? In my case, 3 is incredibly powerful in all aspects of my life. I’ve found Vishnu and Auset to be my focal points and recognize 3 in them. Vishnu has had 9 incarnations (3x3) and Auset recovered Ausar from the dead to become pregnant and give birth to their child.
2. Animals: Yes, everyone has an opinion about cats or dogs. But maybe you find yourself watching spiders closely rather than jumping away, or the finches in your yard carry weight when you see them. Maybe you found yourself getting a dragonfly tattoo out of nowhere, or there’s something about the octopus that gets your heart swelling with intrigue. Write these down. Check the World Wildlife Foundations adoptable endangered species. Which would you choose? What element or directions do you associate these animals with? Which ones do you want to experiment calling upon?
3. Music: I don’t mean the radio. Think about the music you go to when you’re emotionally well; not full of happiness, not in a valley of sadness or pain. What do you like to study to, meditate to? What songs come on when you’re out at restaurants? Is there a song that just pops up at the strangest or most needed of times? Look at the words, the genre, the meaning of these songs or these types of music. If you’re into soundscapes, seek out elemental or nature deities. If you like hip-hop, seek out deities who are playful or assertive. Classical could lead you to deities of balance or justice. Try making music, just with your hands on the table. What rhythms do you find yourself producing? What’s your vibration?
4. Joyous Moments: What makes you happy? Maybe bath bombs aren’t your thing, but tea in the morning is. Do you like being surrounded by friends, family, or strangers? Write down the moments of your life where you felt the most blissful. Write down what moments you want to collect before this life has ended. What deities reflect similar habits or goals? If you want to backpack along the Ganges or in Europe, think about deities of travel and movement. If you want to build a family, look at Mother Goddesses.
5. Weirdnesses: This might be the most important and will require slowly opening your inner eye. Look! For! Weirdness! These are not coincidences, these are communications. Track your moods, your feelings, your interactions. Did a friend mention a film or historical figure that’s been in the back of your mind lately? Did that license plate you read have the initials of someone you care about? What imagery or feelings keep appearing in your dreams? Do you keep finding pennies everywhere you go? If you’re not experiencing weirdnesses in your life, throw yourself into a new situation, new people, hobby, or activity. Breaking routine is an excellent way to invite the universe to have a hand in authoring your day.
These are simple journaling activities to help you place yourself in the greater world we occupy. Spiritual journeys are deep, personal, and a long-term commitment. Don’t choose a deity just because they’re popular, or you feel like you need one.
Spirit guides are already here, waiting for you to listen. The more you reflect on the inner workings of your mind and heart, the more you’re saying YES to magic and saying YES to ascension.
Love & Light <3

🌷🍰 Beltane 🌷🍰

🌷 Also known as May Day
🌷 Art By: Jacqueline De Leon on Instagram
________________________________________________________________
🍰 When Is Beltane?
🌷 Northern Hemisphere:
30April - 1 May
It can be celebrated either day or is traditionally celebrated from the night of 30 April until the day of 1 May
🌷 Southern Hemisphere:
31 October - 1 November
________________________________________________________________
🍰 What Is Beltane?
🌷 Beltane is celebrated because we are now at the peak of spring; the sun god has now taken over. For many of us, summer is arriving, or is coming very soon. It’s super joyous, happy, exciting day that honours life. The earth is buzzing and all of the earth’s energies are thriving: fertility, sexuality, passion, energy and new life are at their peak of stimulation at this time. Fertility is the main theme for Beltane. The Triple Goddess in her maiden form and the Horned God are finally united and they are bringing new life on the earth. It’s the time of the year when we need to grant luck to the summer months and the growth that is coming. It is one of the solar festivals, the other being Samhain. Beltane represents birth, while Samhain represents death, which is why Beltane is seen as the most important celebration by some people.
________________________________________________________________
🍰 How To Celebrate:
🌷 Beltane celebrations focus on fertility, abundance and all of the amazing gifts that the earth gives us at this time.
________________________________________________________________
🍰 Activities:
🌷 Create amulets made from rose quartz and give them to loved ones, friends and family. This is a gift that can help with positivity and passion and they can help to lower anxiety too. For specific loved ones this can help with the passion and romance between the two of you and it can also calm nerves!
🌷 Flowers and greenery are a huge part of Beltane.
🌷 Create flower crowns.
🌷 Create daisy chains.
🌷 Wear flowers on your body.
🌷 Make a green man mask from leaves.
🌷 Beltane is a time of love, so if you have a loved one that you would like to make a commitment to, this is an excellent time for marriage, handfasting and promise rituals. You may want to plan your ceremony for Beltane.
🌷 Dance round a maypole; this is a pole that is typically made from wood or metal and that has ribbons tied to a wreath around it. The maypole, is a phallic symbol of the male, the wreath around it and the ribbons coming off it, the vagina. We are celebrating fertility and the marriage of the two of them around this time! You can do a traditional maypole dance around this pole holding the ribbons. Look out for nearby maypole festivities - there are probably more than you think; if not you can create one yourself with your loved ones or your coven.

🌷 Also if you have plans to conceive, now is a great and lucky time!
🌷 Another way to celebrate love is just to go for a walk- you could search for a hawthorn tree, make a wish , have a picnic and collect some wild flowers. Share this experience with a friend or loved one or enjoy a solitary walk.
🌷 Spells to cast at this time are love spells and vitality, protection, romance and purification spells. Casting your circles with oats around this time of year is also a good idea! They are a traditional Beltane grain for good luck.
🌷 Light a Beltane fire- have a Beltane fire ritual with your friends and family, serve food and have an outside bonfire. Fires are traditionally to honor our sun gods, and celebrate the warmth and the sun god taking over the cold.
________________________________________________________________
🍰 Altar Ideas
🌷 Decorate it with seasonal spring flowers.
🌷 Drape it with green cloth and ribbons to represent the green earth as it is now here!
🌷 Add birch and hawthorn branches, burnt in your cauldron.
🌷 Light red, pink and green candles.
🌷 Red and pink represent passion, love and fertility, which suit the theme of Beltane.
________________________________________________________________
🍰 Food And Drink
🌷 Oats in all forms; oat cookies, oatmeal, oat bread
🌷 Dairy, cheeses and milks or dairy-free alternatives
🌷 Also spicy food, to represent the element of fire and the sun
🌷 May Day wine
🌷 Vanilla-flavoured foods
🌷 Fairy Cakes
🌷 Ice Cream
🌷 Sweet breads
🌷 Elderflower and other flowery-flavoured cordials
________________________________________________________________
🍰 Crystals
🌷 Relevant crystals to carry around with you this time of the year and to meditate with, use in divination and spell work, place at your altar and, around Beltane, give as gifts to loved ones and partners, are:
🌷 Rose Quartz
🌷 Emerald
🌷 Sunstone
🌷 Pink Tourmaline
🌷 Beryl
🌷 Pink angel aura quartz
________________________________________________________________
🍰 Herbs And Flowers
🌷 Any herbs and flowers that are blooming now where you live are perfect or Beltane. Try to get the most vibrant and powerful blossoming herbs to work with at this time of the year.
🌷 Lilac
🌷 Thistle
🌷 Flaxseed
🌷 Paprika
🌷 Hawthorn
🌷 Rowan
🌷 Daffodil
🌷 Honeysuckle
________________________________________________________________
🍰 Incense
🌷 Good incense to use during casting circles, burning at your altar around Beltane time and for cleansing and consecrating, as well as for magickal workings, are:
🌷 Peach
🌷 Rose
🌷 Vanilla
🌷 Jasmine

now that i’ve begun working more with energy, i wanted to share my methods of casting circles! when i first started working with energy, it was really hard to find references for casting circles, especially ones not dealing with the traditional Wiccan god/goddess. here are some methods and uses of casting circles!
Why Cast a Circle?
the primary reason i cast circles is to protect me from outside energy influences. most people associate circles to protection from ‘malevolent’ spirits, however, it’s just a great barrier in general!
here are some following scenarios i cast circles:
divination- to protect me from energies that might influence my cards or my interpretation o the cards
spellwork- pretty self-explanatory. i cast circles to protect from energies i don’t want in my spells, or from potential spirit attraction.
meditation- again, for energy use and to also not be disturbed from anything spiritual.
Methods of Casting
1 - Invoking Elements
a very basic way, if not the go-to way, of casting is to place each of the four elements at each of the cardinal directions. Earth at the north, Air in the east, Fire at the south, and Water in the west.
fire
Candles (color them for intent if used in a spell! alternatively, electric tea lights work fine.)
here is a post about color associations for candles!
Anything symbolic of fire colors (red or warm-colored cloth, figures/statues,etc.)
water
moon/sun water (in a jar works really well, or in an open container if being used for blessing anything)
blessed water, or water related to whatever you’re working with (storm water, diluted essential oils, etc).
here is a good source of different kinds of water and how to cleanse them!
blue or purple colored items
earth
stones or crystals (this is what i love to use! just be wary that some stones are aligned with other elements. clear quartz is a go-to.)
salt
dirt (from your backyard or specific, such as hospital or graveyard. make sure to cleanse it.)
herbs (especially roots)
brown or black colored items
air
incense (different scents have uses as well!)
here is a post with scent correspondences!
steam
yellow or white colored items
alternatively, any of these could be replaced with a tarot card of the corresponding suit! (wands for fire, cups for water, pentacles for earth, and swords for air).
to close the circle, walk clockwise starting in the east (air) and complete a full walk around the circle. do this as many times as you feel needed to envision a complete circle! after your use for it is done, unwind it by walking the same number of times counter-clockwise.
note: if you live in the southern hemisphere, you may want to reverse fire and earth in your directions and walk counter-clockwise to close the circle, and clockwise to end it.
2 - Envisioning
this is a very, very simple way to cast a circle! if you have very little time, simply imagine a ring of light around your workspace. you could align color to purpose as well.
the only downsides to this method include the fact that it may not be as strong as a physical circle for beginners especially, as i have learned many times over as i find energy that i don’t want in the circle. on top of this, to make it very successful, you may have to keep this image in your head throughout your spell or energy work, which may distract or hurt your concentration.
however, like i said before, it’s very easy, discreet, and requires no clean up! with practice, it could be very easy to maintain.
3 - Salt Circle
by simply spreading salt in a circle clockwise (or counter-clockwise depending on your location), you can create a strong barrier. as you walk around, envision your purpose of protection and safety.
if you are working outside, do not use salt. it will kill plant life! instead, consider alternatives such as: egg shells, diluted salt water, crushed herbs, flower petals, etc.
if working inside, consider setting out foil, cloth, or a tarp for easy cleanup.
4 - Cleansing the Room Itself
if you find that you for some reason cannot cast a circle, or maybe are just starting out, consider cleansing the entire room instead!
some methods include:
smoke cleansing (NOT smudging. please do not call this action smudging unless it is part of YOUR culture.)
salt or protective mixture
dance/song
salt/water spray
incense and candles
for smoke cleansing, light your bundle and start facing eastward, spreading the smoke and asking for protection from either the corresponding element or any deities/spirits/etc. you worship. move clockwise or counterclockwise.
for salt or protection mixtures, simply place a small pile in each corner of the room or at the cardinal directions.
dance and song can celanse the room when accompanied with smoke especially.
the salt water spray can be used similar to the protection mixture – spray a little in each corner or at the cardinal directions.
incense and candles can be placed in corners, the directions, or just throughout the room to act as protective energy.
Final Notes
make sure to remove your circle after you’re done!! leaving it up isn’t safe and could be draining on your energy or health.
try not to leave the circle in the middle of your work, if it can be avoided. ive had to do it before and nothing bad happened, but sometimes it ocould break the circle, or bring unwanted energy or precense in.
do your absolute best to have all your materials in the circle before you cast it. bringing items that were not in the circle before could carry energy that you just do not want in your circle. i’ve messed up plenty spells because of it already. if it is really necessary, cleanse the item as thoroughly as you can (quickly if you need to), and enter the circle from the east.
if these methods don’t work right away, don’t worry! these take lots of practice. some easy ways to try casting daily include:
cast a circle before you meditate
cleanse your room before you do homework for a safe space to work
if you have a form of divination, cast a circle before drawing a daily reading (i do this in the morning to see how the day will go or seek advice for the day!).
good luck!

CIRCLE CASTING 101
A magickal circle is an energetic construct that you build or envision around yourself before working magick, doing a ritual, some like to cast a circle before meditating or reading tarots. For a solitary practitioner the circle is typically 5-6 ft in diameter, but the size expands based on the size of the group. It can be defined physically, energetically, or both.
Circles provide protection and serves as a container for your personal energy as well as the energy you conjure.
Please remember that this is just what i personally like to do when casting a circle, but that there are many methods.
Preparation for circle casting
1. Determine how much space you will need.
2. Cleanse your area. Vacuum, sweep, throw away any trash in the area.
3.Make sure you have everything you need for your ritual! Theres nothing more frustrating than having your circle casted and realizing you’ve forgotten an herb or any supplies you need for the work you’re about to do.
4. Purify your area. Light purifying incense, sage, sprinkle salt and holy 💧. Most importantly, Visualize the negative energy dispersing. If you don’t focus & visualize, your physical actions will have little effect. Visualization is hands down one of the most important things in any and all magickal workings!
5. Now its time to cast your circle!
Visualize protective energy coming from within you and direct it towards your casting arm. Focus it through a casting tool (Athame, wand, or ✋) and visualize a beam of energy coming from it and settling on the ground. Trace your circle with this energy, 3 times in a clockwise direction. Once for protection, once for focus, and once for power.
Call the 4 quarters
Face North and say “I call to the North, to the element of Earth. Grant me (us if not practicing alone) your endurance, your strength.” Sprinkle salt onto your altar or crumble soil into a bowl on your altar.
Face East and say “I call to the East, to the element of Air. Grant me your creativity and your intuition.” Light incense, wave a fan,or drop feathers onto your altar.
Face south and say “I call to the South, to the element of Fire. Grant me your passion and your energy.” Light candles.
Face west and say “I call to the West, to the element of Water. Grant me your empathy and your emotion.” Pour blessed/storm/moon/natural water into a bowl or into your chalice.
Now would be the time to call on any deities you’d wish to work with. You can call any Goddess or Angel by personalizing this to them. I typically do not personally work with deities, but if you were to want to, Call to them similar to how the Elements are called. Ex. “I call to Gaia, Mother Goddess, Spirit of Earth.” and then place an offering symbolizing them, so for Gaia you might place grain on your altar as an offering.
If not solitary, now would be the time to invite others to the circle. The group leader typically invites others in by a series of phrases, although i know every coven has their own method fine tuned for themselves, This is just the method i’ve seen used and am familiar with. Group leader:”Children of the Goddess, I now invite you to enter our circle.” Each member will be asked “How do you enter this circle?” The response should be “In perfect love and perfect trust.”
Now its time to raise energy. This is the most important part of this process. It is so important because when you open your circle at the end of spellwork, You release all of your energy you have filled with intent out into the universe to go manifest whatever it may be you have called to. You want as much energy as possible to be released carrying your intent!
Here are a few ways! There is no wrong way to do this part, and there are SO MANY ways. You can fine tune this all to you. Remember that this is your ritual, and you want your energy fully behind everything you are doing. This is all customizable, most of all the energy raising.
-Witches Rune Chant
“Darksome night and shining Moon,
East, then South, then West, then North,
Hearken to the witches’ rune;
Here i come to call thee forth.
Earth and Water, Air and Fire.
Wand and pentacle and sword,
Work ye unto my desire,
Hearken ye into my word.
Cords and censer, scourge and knife,
Power of the witches blade waken all ye unto life,
Come ye as the charm is made.
Queen of Heaven, Queen of Hell, Lend your power unto my spell,
and work my will by magic rite.
By all the power of Land and Sea, By all the might of Moon and Sun,
As I do will, So mote it be;
Chant the spell, and be it done.
Eko, Eko Azarak
Eko, Eko Zamilak
Eko, Eko Karnayna
Eko, Eko Aradia”
-Meditating to raise energy. Visualize energy building and building by visualizing warm, yellow light fill your body until its expanding out of your body and filling the dome above your circle. visualize it filling with energy until you are content.
-Music or Drumming, Dancing and Chanting.
Once you reach your desired energy level, it is time to get into whatever spellwork or ritual you desire to preform!
After your spellwork, its time for Cakes and Ale. I like to make little spirit cakes and have some red wine after a ritual. Expelling all of that energy from your body is draining, and you should take your time to enjoy this part of the ritual. Set a cake and some wine aside for the entities who have lent you their energy as thanks. Cakes can be anything, from saltine crackers to cupcakes. Ale can be water. Anything that works for you is ok. For my cakes, i bake a shortbread and mix whatever ingredients i want into the dough. This way, I can craft them with the intent for whatever ritual i may be doing.
ONCE YOU FINISH YOUR WORK SAY GOODBYE TO THE ELEMENTS AND THANK THEM FOR THE POWER THEY BROUGHT. ALWAYS SAY GOODBYE AND THANK ANY DEITIES CALLED ON.
HERE IS HOW I DO IT:
-Farewell to Goddess. ex. “I thank you, Gaia, for gracing me with your glory. Farewell and Merry met.”
-Farewell to Quarters (Counterclockwise).
“My thanks to the element of Water, Your compassion was a gift. Farewell & Blessed be.” Now cover your dish of water or pour it out, Physically say goodbye as well.
“My thanks to the element of Fire, Your fierceness was a gift. Farewell & Blessed be.” Douse your candle.
“My thanks to the element of Air, Your wisdom was a gift. Farewell & Blessed be.” Douse incense/flip fan/turn over feather.
“My thanks to the element of Earth, Your protection was a gift. Farewell & Blessed be.” Cover earth with a cloth, or return it to ground.
I like to walk the circle the opposite way of its casting three times, and voila!
Keep in mind that this is just my method! There are many methods and this is just one of them.
I hope this is helpful to you!
-Love and light, @lapiscat

Ever want to ask a tarot reader for advice, but you’re not really sure you have any good questions to ask? Great news! Now you don’t have to! Just use one of mine: Love / Relationships
What do I need to do to attract love?
How is my current relationship going?
Why do we feel stuck?
Career
What changes do I need to make to succeed?
Where am I right now?
How to move forward?
What do I want?
Self
What do I need to hear right now?
How to get unstuck?
Can I get a general overview of how I’m doing (ex. emotionally, spiritually, etc.)?
