Chapter 2: Familiar faces
Nightmare sat under the tree as leaves drifted around him. He was waiting for his brother, fiddling with the end of his sleeve. Hadn’t he left saying something along the lines of ‘it won’t take too long, Nighty!’ and ‘you can sit here and read one of your books! I’ll be back before sunset!’.
The latter line wasn’t too comforting considering it was in the middle of the afternoon.
The sun was overhead as children cheered in the distance, playing their little game of tag. Nightmare sighed; his brother was too innocent to associate with those… people. He flipped open the pages of one of his books, one that Dream had purchased for him as a gift. He had been itching to read it these past days, but time just didn’t permit. Now that he had some leisure time however…
“Nighty!” The loud voice snapped his attention to the source.
“You’re back alrea-” Nightmare froze.
Nightmare inspected his brother.
His face was missing.
“What’s wrong, brother?” The faceless being asked, tilting its head inquisitively.
“Are you alright, child?” The thing beside it spoke.
But Nightmare would not be comforted. His breathing turned quick and ragged as his eyes reduced to pinpricks, shakily looking away.
“Child?”
“Ah, I remember now! My brother caught a memory wisp while we were playing in the fields, he probably can’t see our faces!”
Oh. So that was the reason. Nightmare’s body relaxed, still not making eye contact with the two figures.
“I’m sorry for my adverse reaction, I didn’t remember I had a memory wisp.”
“No need to apologize, it is just a simple sickness that will fade in due time.”
When suddenly, their faces cracked.
“There’s that look again… What’s wrong, Nighty? It’s just a memory wisp!”
Memory wisps weren’t supposed to show cracked mirrors on people’s faces. They simply removed the faces of people in the vision of the affected person.
“Why are your faces cracked-” He got out between harsh gasps.
“Cracked? I’m not quite sure wha-”
Their faces warped as the voice descended into complete distortion. An abnormal smile curled at the edges of their mouths. They were staring at him. Their eyes were wide as they spoke, “We’ll never like you, Nightmare.”
“Wh-what?” He spluttered.
“You heard us.” Their voices layered into an unsettling harmony as the distortion increased.
“no one will ever care about someone like you.”
Red hands broke free from the confines of the mirror. They lurched for him. He had to get away- he had to-
Nightmare woke up with a jolt, eyes snapping open. The rise and fall of his chest were irregular as he grappled with himself to steady his shaking hands.
What even was that? Memory wisps, mirrors, hands… The hell were memory wisps? And why did him in the dream know what they were? His mind filled with questions by the minute, but he chose not to dwell on them for too long.
He threw the blanket that covered him away, a wave of cold sending chills through his body. Nightmare shifted his weight onto his legs as he trudged over to the kitchen. The soft hum of the refrigerator was the only noise filling his otherwise silent apartment. He pulled open the fridge door, barely registering the soft glow that was cast over his face as he snagged a bottle of wine. He pulled out the cork before throwing caution to the wind and taking a long sip straight out the bottle.
The cold, bittersweet liquid spread over his tongue as he swallowed it.
I really needed that. After all that’s happened, recurring ni- no, bad dreams, more recent fights with Error, Ink and Dream, general resistance in his objective of spreading negativity. He made his way as he collapsed onto the stool near the counter, placing the bottle gently on the counter.
What was the use of it all?
It was all so tiring.
He buried his head in his folded hands.
He was so alone.
-
“UGH! Can you guys shut up?!” Error gripped his head tightly; he just wanted the voices to quiet down.
‘Chocolate.’
‘Poor lonely child.’
‘You like him, dontcha?’
‘You should kill yourself.’
They all blended, forming a dissonance of noise that Error couldn’t handle anymore. A cacophony of insanity replayed in his head as he mauled his head – drawing blood eventually- trying to get it to stop. He screeched in pain, both due to the noise and the wounds.
“SHUTUPSHUTUPSHUTUP!”
But they just wouldn’t. As a last resort, Error summoned a pointed, sharpened bone that could cleanly slice any normal persons head open and aimed it at his own head.
“If you all don’t shut up, I’ll spear myself with this and this will be the last you see of me.”
Silence echoed around in his head.
“Good. Now stay silent.” His voice was low and dangerous. Knowing how unpredictable he was, it wasn’t entirely out of the question.
A drop of blood tricked down his skull. Error just brushed it off, using a finger to wipe it off. It stung. But he didn’t care enough to do anything about it.
The pain suddenly spiked, Error doubling down and grasping his head lightly. He absentmindedly rubbed at it as he thought of some solutions.
Might as well use the measly amount of healing magic he had to fix the mess that he made.
He flopped down on his bean bag, bouncing a slight bit. Error raised his hand to the wound and channeled magic to his hands. A faint green glow surrounded his hand as he pushed the magic outwards. It barely did anything other than stopping the pain. And not the blood.
Whatever. As long as it didn’t hurt.
Now that he had some peace and quiet, what to do?
Knitting? No, he’d just finished a sweater recently, it would get repetitive.
Star gazing? He’d been there just yesterday, and the longer he had to wait, the more relaxed he was when he visited OuterTale at last.
Maybe…
Error stood and without paying mind to how lightheaded he was feeling, he opened a portal to HorrorTale.
Let's see if he shows up.
-
Nightmare leisurely read a book as he waited for the water for his tea to boil. Peace and quiet at last.
Nightmare suddenly felt all the strength leaving his body. He leaned over the counter for support as he caught his breath.
The little shit.
-
The starless 'sky' of HorrorTale lay stationary as a canopy above. Glowing rocks littered the cave above, 'fake stars' as they were called. The streets were quiet with an eerie silence, as if a predator lie in wait for its prey in the streets. Everyone was driven to insanity by hunger in this AU. Even the most ethical person struggled not to drool when they saw another monster, wanting to grab their neck and snap it off before taking a huge bite to satiate their perpetually empty stomachs. Error lay in the shadows of the silent town, slaughtering the poor fools that decided to investigate the maniacal laughter originating from the alleyway.
These silent kills are getting boring. Let's see the fear on the locals' faces when I plunge a bone into someone's throat out in the open.
Error's thoughts are racing through several different ideas. Should he tear their head off? Or should he slowly tear off each of their limbs until they're left begging for death? Which he will of course give to them, he wanted to provoke Nightmare, not give him a feast.
A shift in the atmosphere notified him of Nightmare's presence. A dark aura settled over the entire town. Suffocating. Unbreathable. Error coughed.
Why the hell is he so dramatic when he has to make an entrance? Like, could he not show up silently, does he have to announce his presence wherever he goes? Typical. He thought with disdain.
Nightmare's tendrils slithered in the air, a contrast to the strings hanging above in the fake sky. Colors drained out of the faces of the locals when they realization dawned on them - the destroyer and the guardian of negativity, as they heard in myths. They weren't getting out of this alive and they knew it.
The Guardian's eyes searched for the Destroyer in freezing rage.
Children whimpered as they ran to find somewhere, anywhere, they could hide. Adults guided them into the houses, struggling to keep their composure and hands shivering. They were met with a black, sharp bone straight to the face. It pulled back, revealing the gaping, bloody hole left in their faces as they fell limp onto the ground. Their family ran to them, attempting to wake the already rotting corpse and weeping as they held their fading hands. Yet, they too were faced with the same, cruel fate.
Error stood mockingly on top of a house as soul floated in his hand. He crushed it in his hands, it splintering into several pieces and fading away. Strings were tautly hung in a stringy mess below the sky.
"So, finally decided to show up? Took you long enough." A slow, taunting smile creeped its way onto Error's face as he strangled a local with his strings, hanging them up in the sky like a grotesque ceiling decoration. "Just try and stop me."
"You're insufferable, Error" Nightmare spoke with as much calmness as he could muster.
Thousands of rifts opened up in the space far above Nightmare, and thousands of rays of code shot forth, homing in on Nightmare. He sighed as the shadows shifted around him and formed a protective barrier. The codes slammed against the shadows, but they refused to back down. The shadows retreated into Nightmare's own shadow.
"Do you think I do not have eyes to see the rifts opening up?" Nightmare laughed. "You should know that it takes more than that to injure me."
"You're too cocky." Error scoffed, rolling his eyes. "Enough talk. Let's fight."
"Your wish, Destroyer. Do not put the blame on me if you get hurt and have to retreat with your tail between your legs."
Before Error had the chance to say 'Tch. As if.', Nightmare lunged for him, tendrils writhing behind him, itching to pierce something, or someone. Error stumbled as he moved aside, holding his head. Everything was spinning.
Either I'm getting sloppy… or he's getting stronger… And why the fuck am I dizzy from that wound on my head? I didn't lose that much blood… did I?
Nightmare ruthlessly went ahead with his attacks, tentacles shooting up from the ground beside Error and startling him. Error really wasn't feeling the best today, neither was Nightmare but he wouldn’t let that show. Error persevered, as determination took hold of him. He wanted to fight Nightmare. That's the only entertainment he had.
"You are getting sloppy, Error. What's going on with you today?" Nightmare mocked, his tone laced with a hint of curiosity.
"Has being met with resistance," Nightmare gestured to the wound on his head. "thrown you off your game?”
If only he knew.
He would jeer at his suffering as well if he knew, wouldn't he? That's the type of person he was.
"Maybe you should be more focused on the battlefield…" Error said ominously. Little did Nightmare know, a wall of blasters was aimed at him just behind.
A radiant glow erupted in the heart of the town.
Error, startled, activated the blasters immediately as he sloppily pointed them at the flash. Blinding flashes of light flew everywhere, tearing anything that stood in its path apart. Buildings crumbled, ground shook as two familiar faces stepped from the flash of light.
Smoke enveloped them as they coughed behind a flickering yellow shield.
"What… happened here…?" Dream's eyes were wide with horror, as he looked around at the mortifying display of dismembered corpses and strings. Ink stood silently beside him, not wanting to utter a word.
"We're in the middle of something here, can't you see?" Error glared at both of them, Dream slightly shrinking back with his gaze.
"We can't let you continue this… massacre." Dream fiddled with the end of his sleeve. He wasn't confident in defeating Error and Nightmare, even with that enhancer.
While Nightmare noticed an immediate change in both of their auras. It was more powerful. Suppressing. As if positive energy was trying to force its way into his body. Were they empowered by an unknown force? Or perhaps… a magic enhancer? Magic enhancers usually took a lot out of its user, rendering them helpless and exhausted after more than a few minutes. Dream and Ink had been here for far longer than that.
Seeing Ink and Dream together, Nightmare and Error faced each other.
“No.”
A mutual understanding. At least they were united in their hate for each other.
They lunged for each of their enemies. They were met with failure.
Error was bombarded with bones to the face, unable to react as Ink moved in speeds unimaginable. He dodged most of the bones but a few still hit true, scraping against his skull and hands.
“Ooh. This enhancer is really good!” Ink relentlessly continued his assault, Error retreating with several wounds in his arms, legs and skull. As Error was preparing for a teleport, one of Ink’s bones nailed him straight in the shoulder. He winced as he grabbed it and threw it off, before stepping through a portal to recover. He gave Ink one last glare as the portal shut. Ink obliviously waved at him.
Nightmare did not fare any better, he felt slower. Or Dream was just faster-more powerful.
An arrow plunged into his leg as he was lost in thought. Pain weaved through his body as he held his stomach. Blood soaked his purple sweater, staining it.
He should probably relocate if he planned on surviving.
Something in him didn’t want to, though.
Perhaps he should coerce Error into a temporary alliance for his survival. Error wouldn’t have any losses in the deal either (other than his pride), so he had no reason to refuse.
Nightmare snapped his fingers, disintegrating into the dancing shade that lay dormant beneath the shadows of the town.
“Where did he go?!” Dream looked around haphazardly, eyelights shrunk into a pinprick at the thought of what Nightmare was planning to do.
“I dunno. Anyway, wanna go home? I think we’ve injured them enough!” Ink said in an unnervingly chipper way. “They prooobably won’t come back for some weeks, maybe?”
“No! We can’t let the locals suffer! If we leave, Nightmare and Error might reign victorious!”
Dream rummaged through his pockets to find the vial --- had given him and took one more sip of the enhancer.
“Let’s find them.” Dream snapped his bow in half with the bowstring as his magic transformed the broken bow into two swords. He stood in a fighting stance, brows furrowed in determination.
“Aye aye captain!”
-
Nightmare held his stomach tightly, he attempted to splint his stomach in such a way that he would be able to cough without much pain. What was Dream on to make a wound hurt so bad? A green glow emanated from his hand as he positioned it front of the wound without touching it.
Much better.
He caught a glimpse of a certain person with a glitchy voice and blue scarf.
Time to initiate the plan. But first, he had to make himself look uninjured so that it would seem as if he was offering help, rather than for mutual benefit.
Shadows filled the wounds that littered his body, making it seems as if they were never there.
Now he was ready.
Nightmare sauntered toward the glitch.
“Come any closer and I’ll slaughter you.” Said glitch proceeded to glare at him in such a way that he could physically feel the weight of his stare.
“Yes, of course. All I wanted to do was offer my help.”
“You? Help? Tch, don’t make me laugh.”
“I’m being serious, Error.”
“Why would you offer help in the first place. You’re not an altruistic guy.”
He had a point. But Nightmare had a better argument.
“This agreement is not only for my benefit, but mine too. I expect you to help negativity propagate at least once, after this.”
“Figured. But it depends on how much you help me, if I take care of everything myself, I’m not doing my part of the deal.”
Nightmare hadn’t expected him to accept so quickly without a second thought. He was desperate, just as he was.
“Very well then. Let me heal you before we get going, wouldn’t want you dead before you were able to fulfill your part.”
“Of course, of course.” Error rolled his eyes. Of course he wouldn’t care.
Shadows that yearned to escape the confines of the ground bounced over to Error. He yelped, startled by the sudden movement and stumbling backwards. Nightmare laughed, though his tone was more mocking than genuine with a flicker of amusement.
“Scaredy cat.”
“Shut. Up. Insult me again and you’ll suffer.”
Error and his empty threats…
He relaxed, shoulders drooping down as the shadows lunged forth and clung to him. Pain was siphoned from his body as the shadows obscured the wounds. They cascaded down his clothes and back into the ground soon after their job was complete.
“Huh…” Error watched the shadows fade into Nightmare’s shadow in amaze.
“Let us get going.”
Error reluctantly followed Nightmare into the swirling portal he had opened. Better than being left to rot.
-
“We should split up! Error and Nightmare are weaker than us right now, so we should be able to chase them off.”
“I’d prefer if you didn’t say that in such a joyous way…” Dream sighed. Even with the enhancer, this was going to be a tough battle. “But, sure.”
“Alright then!” Ink skipped off happily, ready to kick some ass!
Dream watched with a bemused expression as Ink faded into the forest. He had a bad feeling about this…
-
“Alright! Now where to find Error and Nightmare…?”
He didn’t have time to contemplate the question as a rift opened above him, Error and Nightmare lunging at him the second it closed. As he was caught off guard, Ink yelped, mind not processing the current events.
Nightmare flicked his tentacles, sending Ink flying before he had a chance to react.
“What the hell?!” Ink got up swiftly. “Where did you two come from?”
“The sky.” Error answered dryly.
“When were you two friends? I thought you hated each other!”
“Don’t insult me by saying we’re friends. This jerk is a temporary ally.”
“Enough talk.”
-
“I wonder if he’s found them yet…” Dream pondered, walking through the quiet expanse.
-
Ink winced as he attempted to dodge an incoming blaster. The smoldering heat singed his scarf in the process. He slowed down to catch his breath; Error caught this as he decided to take advantage of the situation by preparing to shoot a barrage of bones at Ink.
Ink, not noticing this, was doubled over when suddenly, sharp, pointed bones met his body. He fell to the ground, black blood flowing from the wounds and his mouth.
How could I have let Nightmare and Error win…? was the last thought that lingered in his mind before everything faded to black.
-
“INK!” Dream yelled as he saw his friend fall limp.
Error and Nightmare snapped their head to the source.
“So that’s where you were.” Nightmare’s mouth curled into a grin as a tentacle coiled around Ink’s unconscious body and threw him to Dream.
Dream rushed to catch Ink’s falling body, holding him as if he was glass that might shatter.
“Now if you don’t want to be in the same state he’s in, you better split.” Error’s eyes were empty, not filled with amusement like Nightmare’s was.
“I surrender. You two win this time. I will not let you two off easily next time.” Dream gaze was directed to the floor, a somber look as he stepped through the glowing portal that opened behind him.
“I'll admit it. You’re not entirely useless. You actually did help.” Error folded his arms. “For my part of the deal, I’ll leave this AU as is and you can feast on the negativity.”
“I agree. I’m surprised you admit defeat at last. Remember that one time you said, ‘I’d never work with someone like you even if it means my death’?”
“This was temporary, back then I meant permanent.”
“Sure, you did.”
“Whatever. I’m leaving.” Error snapped his fingers as he disintegrated into nothing more than a few particles floating in the faint breeze.
Nightmare’s thoughts were left lingering on the alliance with Error. Based on that enhancer and how it barely had any side effects on Ink and Dream, it might even be permanent. Error would definitely refuse if he went and proposed a permanent alliance. He’d even laugh in his face saying, ‘Pfft! That desperate for power that you want me under control, huh? In your dreams. Or nightmares.’ Nightmare was frowning at the thought of it.
Maybe he could let Error see that he really couldn’t live without him, that the Destroyer would be no more if he continued on this path. But for that, he’d need to face the consequences of his actions on his own.
For now, he would feast on the delectable negativity that swirled in this town. -

As the Tides Crash An Errormare, enemies to lovers fanfic i made! Available on AO3as seen above, but ill post on tumblr as well, only one chapter out so far Chapter 1: Deities in the fray
Fading embers drifted from the sky looming above, which fought the great expanse of black that looked to overtake it. The sun, worn from its battle with the lurking clouds of negativity, clung to the edges of the world, its fading light desperately looking to leave its mark. The smell of blood and ash tainted the city as the corpses that lay still nearby had. The air was heavy as two figures stood amidst the bloodshed, their presence setting unease into the hearts of the survivors that took refuge behind the town statue.
“What do you want, Guardian.” Error’s voice was unusually clear, dry and stern. His scarf, worn from years of wear, shifted idly in the faint breeze as he spoke.
“I simply ask that you do not destroy negative AUs.” His ash black jacket that was draped over his shoulders flowed absentmindedly as he simply commanded Error. His presence alone cast a chilling atmosphere over the surroundings. But Error wouldn’t be affected by someone of the likes of him. Error’s fingers curled, digging into his palms. Who did this fucker think he was? Telling him what to do? It made Error’s proverbial blood boil as he entertained his own thoughts.
“What? Have nothing better to do than to boss me around? Or are you just that desperate for the measly amount of negativity that you lose from this world?” Error knew he landed a hit as he watched Nightmare for any external reaction. A slight flicker of his eyelight betrayed his feelings. He hated seeing Nightmare so unnervingly calm, he wanted to see what would happen if he finally lost his cool. Would he lunge at Error? Or perhaps he really is as calm as he portrays?
“I am trying to be patient with you, Error.” Nightmare’s suppressed anger burned silently in the depths of his own psyche as his eyelight glowed in rage. His patience was running thin, Error could make it out from the look on his face. He was winning. He wouldn’t let Nightmare off without pushing every single one of his buttons this time.
He wanted to see an enraged Nightmare.
“Pfft! Imagine your ego being so fragile that ya get pissed off at a snarky comment!” Error mocked, not backing down. It seems he had gotten what he had wanted.
“I am done with this.” was the only thing Error heard before a charged blaster appeared next to his enemy, pointed at him. He scrambled to get out of the blast radius of it, albeit sloppily as he had his guard down. The blaster’s mandible dropped open, a blinding flash of white streaming from its maw and scorching the grass nearby. Error didn't foresee Nightmare’s patience crumbling so easily. He thought he needed a bit more taunting before that happened. But, oh well. He’d deal with this swiftly.
“So, we’re playing that game, huh? Alright then.”
Error snapped his fingers, summoning an array of his own blasters, their mandibles itching to spew the magic that was contained inside.
“Yes, it seems so.” Nightmare said nothing more as he lunged for the blasters. He effortlessly speared each and every one of the blasters that stood in his path, tentacles sharp as they disintegrated into wisps of magic. A singular blaster lay out of view, unbeknownst to Nightmare.
That was all Error needed.
Everything seemed to slow down as the blinding flash of light flew towards him. But he couldn’t move. He was too slow to avoid the incoming ray. The impact knocked the Guardian back, crashing into the building behind. From the dust and debris, Nightmare emerged. A dull pain throbbed in his shoulder.
Nightmare realized that perhaps, he should have contained his anger just this once. He was a bit weak after a fight against Dream having drained all his reserves. He was no match to deal with Error right now. Nightmare would die if this continued, so he opted for quiet surrender.
“You have won this time, but do not expect similar happenings next time.” Nightmare’s face shifted into something grotesque, his neck twisted at sickening angles to look at Error. His cyan eyelight was a slit, gaze locked on his prey, twitching slightly.
“You will pay for your words, whether you like it or not.” He returned to his usual calm, mocking demeanor, form twisting back into place.
“Sure, sure.” Error said, unfazed. “I’m choosing to spare you this once, cuz I don’t have enough energy to deal with you right now. Next time, you find yourself in this situation, don’t expect any mercy from me.” Error pulled up his blue screen, tapping away to delete the current AU.
“Is that the reason or have you, perhaps, developed a fondness for me?” Nightmare grinned smugly, hands behind his back.
“I’d never care about someone like you.” He spat with a tone of hatred, Nightmare could almost feel hurt. He didn’t care though. Afterall, he felt the same way. “Now get outta here, before I choose to destroy you along with this AU.” He knew that Error really didn’t care if he did die in the aftermath of his destruction. Error would probably think of it as a nuisance permanently removed. If he was in Error’s place, he’d feel the same way.
“Then, I shall see you later, little Destroyer.” He chuckled as he said eloquently, smile stretching abnormally. He snapped his fingers for a portal to open with a whizz. Nightmare stepped through the portal elegantly, giving Error one last smug look as the portal closed.
-
“Does he think of himself as better than me or something!?” He shouted, glitching accentuated in his voice and his anger burning hot. A gasp was heard from behind the statue. Error smiled. No use pondering that now, he’d better get to work.
-
Nightmare’s smile faded as fast as the portal shut. Why did it have to be so quiet in his own apartment? Exhaustion took hold of him as he dragged his feet across the carpet and to his sofa. He really shouldn’t have provoked Dream. And Error shouldn’t have provoked him.
The distant chirping of birds signaled the end of the day and the start of... work. Nightmare channeled some magic, coating his outer body like a thick shell, and shapeshifting into his human self. His hair was thrown over his face, him brushing it off in annoyance.
He had two hours to spare, might as well make the best of it. Nightmare then made his way to a bookshelf that was one of many and grabbed his favorite book. He eased into the comfort of the nearby sofa as the pain in his back released. Exhaustion was pacified. Birds chirped, cars honked, but Nightmare paid no mind as he absorbed himself into the book, reading intently.
-
It had not even been two minutes since he started reading before his phone’s alarm started ringing incessantly. Nightmare carefully set his book down as he checked the time-
Ah. He had misread 6:30 for 4:30, mistaking the second hand for hour on his watch.
Nightmare grabbed his keys and set them on his belt, jingling as he jogged down the staircase.
-
After arriving at the bar he worked at, he pushed open the door as it obliged with a slight jingle. The smell of alcohol and booze assaulted his senses as he scrunched his nose in dismay. The warmth that enveloped him at least provided some comfort. Nightmare tapped his feet impatiently as his eyes cycled though the hoard of people to look for his boss.
“Ah, Nox! You’re here.” His coworker called out from behind the counter.
“Oh, it’s you, Melissa.” Nox said nonchalantly, walking to grab his uniform. “Weren’t you going on paid leave to care of your mother?”
“Yeah! But since my dad returned from his business trip, he’s gonna take care of her.”
Nox didn’t reply, simply giving a hum in acknowledgement as he made his way to the back to change. Before he had the chance to open the door, a man with short black hair in the same uniform he was about to change into walked out.
“Nox? You’re here early. Are you expecting extra pay? You know our boss isn’t that type of guy.” Deni tilted his head.
“I’m not. I just had nothing to do at home, so I came here. Can you move please?” Nox gestured toward the door. “I need to change.”
“Mm sure.”
He pushed open the door once more, swiftly running inside to change and walking out with a suit. Melissa and Deni stared at him, one in awe and the other unimpressed.
“What? Have you both never seen me in uniform? We’ve been working together for a year.”
“No, it’s just... You look handsome.” Melissa stared, eyes wide.
“Thank... you?”
Deni’s eyes flicked between the two of them, perhaps a certain gear turning in his head as he realized...
“Oh... that’s what was going on? No wonder.”
“What was going on?” Nox asked.
“Nothing.”
The rest of the night was without incident, the three shared their usual banter, Nox being ever so careful not to say the wrong thing. Pouring drinks, breaking up fights at the bar, the usual. Nox was getting tired of this routine; sure, his coworkers were okay to be around, and he had some peaceful time to himself every now and then with his books. And spreading negativity and playing with Error was quite the entertainment.
But there was something missing.
Nox finished up his shift and walked to the door, his two coworkers following closely behind. The three of them made their way to the bus stand as each of they parted ways with Melissa, biding their farewells as each of them got on their respective buses. Nightmare’s mind was racing the entire ride home, so much so that even when Deni waved a hand in front of his face, he didn’t notice. Deni had to physically shake him to snap him out of whatever trance he was stuck in.
Truth is, he was just... pondering. How he had no one knew him as well as his brother did. He hated admitting it but he just felt... empty without anyone close to him. No one knew him well enough to care if something happened to him. Deni and Melissa were the closest things he had to friends, and if he were to suddenly stop showing up to work one day, they probably wouldn’t care. They’d treat it as some normal Tuesd-
“Nox!”
Deni’s voice was effectively like a slap that woke him up from sleep.
“Hm?”
“You were out of it again; this is the third time I’ve had to ‘wake’ you.”
“Sorry.”
“You don’t have to apologize for everything.” Deni sighed. “Is there anything that you want to talk about? Anything going on at home that has your mind reeling?”
“I live alone. And no, nothing that I want to talk about.” Nightmare couldn’t tell Deni what he was thinking about. He couldn’t tell anyone. There was something in him that just didn’t let him.
“Alright then. I just hope you’ll at least take care of yourself. For me.”
Nightmare was warmed by his concern.
“Here’s my stop. I must go now. Bye.” Nox said bluntly.
“Bye.” Deni waved as he watched Nox get down from the bus.
Nightmare couldn’t stand being outside a second longer. He just wanted to go home. He sprinted to his apartment as fast as he could manage, keys jingling with every step. As he ran up the staircase, he missed a step as he slightly stumbled in response. Nightmare snagged his keys from his belt and unlocked the door, stepping inside. He didn’t wait a second longer before making his way to his bed, not even bothering to change his clothes. He collapsed onto the bed as exhaustion completely encased him until he could barely move a muscle. The magic surrounding him disintegrated, turning into nothing but mere wisps. When suddenly, pain wrapped its hands around Nightmare’s soul. He winced, gripping his clothes near where his heart was.
Why did his chest have to hurt so bad now of all times? Right when he thought he could get some rest... Was it because of the destruction of that one AU? Possibly. Error was an unpredictable moron, who couldn’t bother to listen to reason. In what way would it have hurt him to simply not destroy that AU? Or was he doing it on purpose, knowing it would harm Nightmare in some way?
Whatever. None of it mattered now. He’d just suck it up and deal with it.
-
Error stared up at the ceiling of his ‘home’ as he stared up at the many souls he had hung up decoration. Geez, why was there nothing to do in this damned place other than stare at ceilings, that weren’t even exactly ceilings to begin with. Error rubbed his temples in frustration as he groaned. He would have been watching UnderNovela on any other normal day, but today he just wasn’t in the mood.
He couldn’t even do his favorite thing to do, destroying AUs, because hell he was too tired. He hated the limits of his body sometimes.
He swirled his strings around his fingers in boredom. What else was there to do...? Error absentmindedly spun the strings into something resembling a... noose? He took a look at his hands and immediately discarded the piece without a second thought. That wasn’t an option.
He opened a portal which cycled through several different AUs before it finally landed on a Genocide AU OuterTale. He peered out from the portal with a curious look, although he knew no one would be here. Error then lifted himself off his feet, sweeping his project in through the portal after him.
He couldn’t get his mind off the battle earlier that day though.
Why had he even bothered to destroy a negative AU? He didn’t know what possessed him to make the decision. Afterall, a destruction of an AU without Ink, Nightmare and Dream on his ass would be peaceful and tranquil. At least to him.
But he still wanted to make a point to his (second) worst enemy.
His hands moved in practiced precision, weaving together a sweater as all the tension released from his body. Error sighed.
He flopped down at the cliff’s edge. Stars swirled in a liquid-like pattern as they shooting stars shot across the sky. Moon dust floated around him as he scooped some of it in his hand, blowing it away. Earth was visible from that part of the moon. A blue ball with patches of green floating along in space... unknowingly marching to its end in a few billion years. It was peculiar when he thought of it.
...
...It’s too quiet. He hated it. Why did he have to be alone all the time? He just-
No. The Destroyer shut those thoughts down with a sharp scowl. The voices (who weren't even here at the moment) and himself was all he needed.
He’d be fine on his own.

Help my family EVACUATE from Gaza..
Hello,My name is Ayad from Gaza💔😢

On October 7th, my family and I were subjected to an Israeli airstrike that completely destroyed our home. We miraculously survived the attack and fled to Al-Shifa Hospital, thinking it would be safer. However, this place was also in bombed, forcing us to escape once again. The hearts of my nieces and nephews, Nasser, Jana, Mohammed, and Hind, were filled with fear and terror. We struggled to pull them out from under the rubble amidst their screams and cries.

Our lives have turned into a living hell, surrounded by fire and phosphorus everywhere, as if we are trapped in a nightmare from which we cannot wake up. I developed a severe sensitivity to the smoke and phosphorus, and I began to suffer from respiratory issues. To this day, I continue to struggle with the effects of phosphorus exposure, and I have not found any treatment to alleviate my condition, which worsens day by day.

After fleeing to southern Gaza, we now live in a very small tent. We have no home, no food, and we are not living a humane life with even the minimum necessities. Our means of livelihood have been cut off, as my father's company was completely destroyed, with the machinery burned and the goods and vehicles turned to ashes.

I am Iyad, and my dream was to continue my university studies, but my university was destroyed, and my dream ended there. I have always aspired to study accounting and become an accountant.

I appeal to anyone with a sense of humanity to help me and my family escape to a safe place. I need assistance in treating my sensitivity and respiratory issues, as well as support to continue my education and fulfill my dream. I need travel abroad, receive medical treatment, and resume my studies.

Thank you to everyone who helps me and my family to find safety.💖🌼
Iyad

I think the feeling that God gets when we lift our hands up to worship him. Isn’t much different than the feeling a parent gets when their child lifts their hands up in asking to be picked up. I think we all just want to be picked up by God, and God is more than willing to do so.
