Pearl Van Geest (MFA 2014 ) opens The Brink @ Coldstream Fine Art
Over the years Pearl Van Geest has amassed a collection of images – personal photographs of random events, travels, concerts, visits to galleries, etc; clippings from newspapers and magazines; movie stills; exhibition cards and screen shots from internet searches. In The Brink, Van Geest paints interpretations of some of these images, all she suggests, poised at the edge where the progress from moment to moment appears to be suspended and where a shift, change, transformation, new beginning or disaster is perhaps imminent.
The Brink runs from Jan 28th - Mar 1st www.coldstreamfineart.com

SoCA welcomes Andrew Wright (MFA 1997) this Thursday, Nov 10th.
Wright has exhibited both nationally and internationally. 2016 marked his first solo exhibition in the U.K. at London Gallery West of the University of Westminster. In August of 2014, Wright’s work was shown at the Xi’an Art Museum in central China. In February of 2015, Wright’s works Eastern White Pines (2011) and Go Home Bay (2011) were installed permanently in the Robert Borden room of Canada House, Canada's High Commission in London.

Come check out Walking Phoenix at AVALANCHE! Institute of Contemporary Art on Friday September 30th! I will be exhibiting two new wall paintings, alongside some wonderful artists from previous AVALANCHE! shows.
This is sadly their final exhibition, but thankfully they are moving on to other interesting projects and will still be an important part in the Calgary arts community. Keep and eye out for them in the future!
“AVALANCHE! ICA is dedicated to exhibiting exciting work by emerging Canadian artists, with an emphasis on experimental, site-specific, and installation-based practices. Through curated exhibitions, print editions, and special events, AVALANCHE! strives to present conceptually engaging and aesthetically resolved programming, ultimately aiming to contextualize the practices of Calgary-based artists on a national level.” (From their website.)
