Statement from the Canadian Mental Health Association regarding Matthew Good

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) has become aware of public allegations from multiple women about Matthew Good.

CMHA takes these allegations very seriously. Excellent mental health is not possible without feeling safe in relationships, and particularly intimate relationships. CMHA believes that building safe communities that protect and champion the rights of women, girls and non-binary people is a foundation of good mental health.

CMHA has no current association with Matthew Good and will not be working with him in the future. As Matthew Good has had a historical relationship with CMHA as a mental health advocate, CMHA is taking immediate steps to review his involvement with our organization and has retained an experienced investigator to assist us in making these inquiries. Anyone with information is welcome to reach out in confidence to complaints@cmha.bc.ca.

Just an anonymous message of support for the creator of this page and all those who have come forward. I was a huge MGB/Matt Good fan for a large, large portion of my adolescence and early teen years as a teenage girl. He's not an artist I ever go back and revisit, either. Thank you all for coming forward. None of his behaviour surprises me, looking back on it. Best wishes, stay safe, stay strong.💕

Hi everyone, I just want to start by saying that my story is pretty minor compared to what has happened to some others, but as a major former fan I feel like I need to add my voice.

In 2011 I had a brief exchange with Matt through email when I was a member of the M+ premium fansite. He asked for ideas to create a cool experience for fans, I think it might've been a contest or something? Anyway, I sent my idea through email. My uncle worked at a place with a theatre and I thought it would be cool to have a mini concert. Well, initially Matt responded saying that he appreciated my ambitions, but that he would never have time to do something like that. I thanked him for his time and I thought that was it.

Well, he emailed me again and the emails continued for about a week. The conversation through email immediately got sexual and at some point we got on the topic of massages, and I stupidly said I had a friend that did them. He asked if he could get a happy ending and I said I wasn't sure. He wanted to know what my friend looked like do asked for my Facebook. I guess he didn't like how I looked or she looked or something, because the conversation after that immediately shifted to talking about some tv show we both watched.

The only other interaction I had with him was after a show of his I went to shortly after this, where he sent me a Facebook message saying "I didn't know you were here, you should've come said Hi". I responded but never heard from him again after that.

So, this interaction combined with all the things everyone has said on here made me realize what kind of person he is and that everything I've heard throughout the years has been true.

Thank you for creating this group. It breaks my heart to see how many women he has affected and I'm sure there are many more. Even when he first contacted me I got the impression that he was reaching out to whoever would bite and I'm sorry to say I was one of those women.

We exchanged messages for quite some time, and at one point he had me convinced to leave my relationship for him. It's interesting how years of being emotionally attached to his lyrics and my (very idealized) perception of him, combined with his persuasive words, could be so impactful. I'm not big on 'celebrities', but I had idolized him for half my life and the fact that he had contacted me was intoxicating. Yet at the same time the overly sexualized and chauvinistic things he said contradicted everything I though I knew about him. Did I play into it? Yes. Do I regret it? Yes.

I was extremely close to moving out and breaking up with my partner. The only thing that saved me from making this mistake was not being able to afford paying 2 rents in the same month (never thought I'd be so thankful for financial instability!) I also talked to a counsellor because it was a very stressful time. I felt torn about what to do every single day and his persistent and pressuring messages didn't help.

Finding out that someone you've thought so highly of is a "real person' is kind of expected. Finding out the extent of that person's terrible traits is somehow too disheartening to put into words. It has honestly made me question a lot about what I believe and trust in life. But still I consider myself one of the lucky ones. I can't imagine having been in a relationship with him. I'm sending you my love and support, and I know we all have it in us to move forward- stronger, wiser, and more united against narcissistic, manipulative assholes.

Matt robbed a big part of my life. He was obsessed with talking about sex and women's bodies. He also made me feel like I was the one he has been looking for his whole life. All of the texts he sent me were sexual and out of the blue. I know he would look at pornographic photos and videos when his kids were in the room. If you say you don't want to do something that he does, he will try and make you feel stupid. He would tell me I was beautiful and somehow also make me hate myself. I have a lot to discuss. After his first ex-wife left him, be sent my super hot friend the grossest messages on MySpace. He begged her to meet him in Las Vegas and went on this rant about how his ex-wife never gave him oral sex. Who tells a complete stranger that?! Disgusting.
