Heats
An Omega typically goes through a "heat". In my AU, these are some facts about them!:
-Heats last from 3-7 days, depending on the Omega's current mental status. The more stable they are, the quicker their heat passes, and vice versa.
-Heats begin from as early as 7, to as late as 23. Heats do not pause after a certain age.
Despite the name, heats usually make an Omega cold, rather than -warm. An early sign of a heat starting would be an Omega bundling up a bit more then usual, or complaining about cold temperatures that no one seems to reciprocate.
Heats aren't always sexual - those kind of heats usually start during puberty. There's two kinds of heats:
DRY HEATS: These heats usually occur for Omegas ages 7-10, ages 40+, pregnant and/or postpartum Omegas. They usually crave physical affection, foods, warmth, and are usually more sensitive to loud sounds and bright lights than usual.
Caring for an Omega in a dry heat would include: physical touch, a secluded place with proper lighting, snacks, lots of water, and verbal affection.
BREEDING HEAT: These heats usually occur for adolescents outgoing puberty, to adults in their late 30s. They happen twice a year, for about a week, and will usually leave an omega craving for a mate, if they don't already have one. Having a mate does NOT get rid of heats, but may make the process a little easier. An Omega may be more irritable, and may refuse to eat.
Caring for an Omega in a breeding heat would include: sexual relief (does NOT require intercourse, toys or things of that sort is just as fine), lots of water, a secluded place, warm things, scented items.
Laws about Heats:
An Omega in heat MUST consent verbally to any form of intercourse, unless a disability prevents them from doing so. If that is the case, there must be CLEAR proof that the Omega receiving wants it. Anything else is classified as rape.
Alcohol consumption, or non-prescribed drugs are illegal for Omegas under 30 to consume while in heat, due to their body's weak state.
Denying an Omega accommodations or time off of school/work is classified as neglectful behaviour, and is illegal.
that's really it! the idea of "dry heats" was taken from a omegaverse blog from three-ish years ago, and that idea stuck in my brain for the years following. I tried to find that blog again, but I believe it was deleted. :(
