Final Projection + Music
I decided during my research that the music that suited my project best would be jazz as it is often incredibly energetic and somewhat unpredictable. These are qualities I associated with atomic energy during my research and I wanted to keep this jazz theme in the final part of the project when I was adding sound.
I took inspiration from the composition 'Whiplash' and from the film by the same name, due to its intensity and randomness.
I also knew that I wanted there to be a clear climax with the sound and thought the black hat was best fitting for this as it is based around the tragic explosion at Chernobyl. For this I decided to use an ear ringing sound as I believe it is the most effective way of communicating the loss of hearing after an unexpected explosion, as if you were stood near a reactor when it happened.
For the two hats following the black hat, the water made me want to gradually increase the sound as if it were returning to the surface and to normality following the explosion. I wanted this to come across quick as is the nature of atomic energy and fusions.
The jazz drum music I used also matched well with the rhythm of the white hat which opens the projection and sets a lively, energetic tone throughout.

Model and Projection
I wanted my model to resemble the inside of a nuclear reaction chamber of sorts, so I used cardboard and paper to sphere to act as a main reaction point and the walls as well as the walls of the chamber.
I used a net online for a sphere and printed this to create the sphere. I used some cardboard pieces to elevate it and stabilise it during the projection.
I used a plain piece of cardboard to create walls to surround the sphere. By itself, it looked very poor and I wasn't extremely happy with it but once projected, it looked much better.

Red Hat
I decided to go back to my first attempt at the red hat and take on the feedback about blend modes. I played around with random blend modes on different layers to see what they did. I'm not entirely sure what I did to each layer in the end but I'm happy with the outcome.

Red Hat
I want to incorporate paint more into this hat if possible, so looked at this title sequence for inspiration as I liked the oil paint look used.
Although I didn't use this approach, I found it helpful to re-centre my focus on my original idea for the red hat being more artistic rather than all created in After Effects.

Red Hat
I wasn't very fond of how saturated it was the first time around so I lowered the saturation slightly.

Red Hat
I decided to restart my red hat as an experiment as I was told to consider using more blend modes but when I tried that with what I had made so far, I found it quite difficult. I decided to begin with a blank slate. I experimented with what lightning effects were there and found the Lightning Bend effect. I played around with the different settings of it for a while until I got some that I liked.
I also followed a tutorial on spilt ink transitions. I think this may be ill-fitting now compared to the rest of the content in the hat but I have not decided on this as my final draft yet.

Yellow Hat Experimentation
I played around with the colours in the render water particle video, changing it from a murky brown to blue, showing the change from water polluted by fossil fuels to idealised, clear, blue water which could be a possibility through atomic energy. I also liked how the particles cam very close to the camera and it reminded me of the film flashes from my black hat and so I added the same film to see if a transition was possible.
I think the potential for a transition is there it would just need to be polished up a bit.

Yellow Hat
I followed this tutorial to create water in after effects using particulate as I took inspiration from the Hannibal opening sequence. I really liked how the water seemed manipulated and wrapped around the object. I knew I would not be able to do something to this same level however by following the tutorial below I was quite happy with what I had achieved.

Yellow Hat - Water
On feedback I received, I decided to keep the yellow hat simple as the other hats are quite busy, especially the red and black hats. With the yellow hat being: positivity, benefits, brightness etc and those in relation to atomic energy I chose to focus on how atomic is a clean energy, and a possible replacement for fossil fuels in the move towards renewables.
I decided that some peaceful shots of water may have been a nice break for this amidst the other hats and that is certainly reflected the benefits of atomic energy, those being that it is less polluting and wasteful than current energy sources which leaves our oceans looking like this:
I followed this tutorial on how to create water in Maya as I didn't want to use stock footage for this.

This is it rendered as of now:

Blue Hat Experimentation
I wanted to focus on the Hadron Collider as the foundation of my blue hat, as it is described to be used for:
The Standard Model of particle physics – a theory developed in the early 1970s that describes the fundamental particles and their interactions – has precisely predicted a wide variety of phenomena and so far successfully explained almost all experimental results in particle physics.. But the Standard Model is incomplete. It leaves many questions open, which the LHC will help to answer. (https://home.cern/resources/faqs/facts-and-figures-about-lhc)
As it concerns particle physics, I thought it would be appropriate to use for the blue hat as it is used to answer the fundamental questions concerning particle physics, which in turns relates to atomic energy as it is the energy created by splitting the nuclei in atoms.
I was advised to try the CC Kaleida effect as the Hadron Collider has a octagonal, symmetric shape to it that I liked.
I experimented with different degrees and kinds of Kaleida effects in AE. I was also advised that using masks to create a resemblance to the collider using different Kaleida experiments could be effective and after trying that idea, I think it works well for my blue hat.

Red Hat
I received feedback on my red hat that it may be over-crowded and so I took out some elements of the project:

White Hat
I have added some extra equations and replaced the dividing particles I made initially in After Effects with ones I drew in Photoshop that I thought looked better with the choppy aesthetic of it. It also allowed me to plan for a transition better into the hat after.
