PREPARATIONS

This week was full of preparations, since the final pitching is fast approaching. The group decided to have a pre-pitching in order to correct the necessary things upon presenting the product. Engr. Bronson Mabualy suggested that we must focus on the problem and the validation of it.

Our product is intended for the households and establishments who do the rainwater harvesting. Based on our interviews, 7 out of 10 respondents are practicing rainwater harvesting. Majority of the households who stored water that is unsafe and unclean.

PORTABLE RAINWATER FILTER DEVICE

12th BLOG

Couple of days before the final pitching on March 13, 2019, we decided to have a daily practice in order to familiarize and to be more knowledgable enough about our product. We extract huge effort since it is the last pitching and it serves as our final exam in TECHNOPRENEURSHIP.

March 13, 2019, final pitching is here. The Legendary Gurls were assigned to be the 5th presentor. The pitcher were Lemuel Datoy and yours truly. Trembling and butterflies in my stomach were bursting. Fortunately, we handle it with confidence. With that, we deliver and persuade our idea and so with introducing our product in a smooth way, in which the panel gave a positive comments with regards to the product. And the other panel suggested that we can also include the filter layer that can be change to be in our market. What he has trying to tell us that we can also cater the changing of layers through services or through materials. Our hearts were filled with joy, to the point that all the hardworks, disappointments and frustrations were totally paid off.

Pressure can totally leads you to make on the things that you did not expect yourself to do. Technopreneurship taught us to handle all the pressure and conquer all the fear.

Applause(👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏) to all the instructors behind this subject, Engr. Bronson G. Mabulay, Engr. Maricel Dalde and Engr. Vida Lagumbay. It really helps the students sharpen their minds. Doing things out of their comfort zones.

Finalizing the Idea

The group gathered to finalize everything. Then, we have decided to push through the PORTABLE RAINWATER FILTER DEVICE.

This filter device has been design with three layers. The layers are with first, fine gravel, second, activated carbon, lastly polyurethane foam. This idea was taken from the filtration of water basically found in a dispenser. The portable rainwater filter device can filter the water from the downspout directly to the storage.

We conduct directly an interview because the time flies very fast. With those interviews conducted, we are mainly validating our target market.

Based on the interviews performed, we gather a problem that most of the households who do the rainwater harvesting are experiencing difficulties in storing water that is unclean and unsafe.

On this week, Engr. Bronson conducted a lecture regarding on how should we deal our target market and he also introduced the funnel method. He also taught us the use, usable qne meaning of the product.

Business Model Canvas

Engr. Bronson Mabulay gave us an activity on how to make a business model. Prior to the said activity, ge introduced first on what and how should a BMC looks like.

BMC stands for Business Model Canvas is a model representation in which it helps us to identify the the process of the business, who should be the partners in making the products and of course it leads to recognize the target market. The BMC serves as a guide in starting a business.

On the other hand, regarding with our innovative project, the group experienced a lil bit frustrations ans confusions on what should be the final idea the we are going to present.

The Pitching

SEVENTH BLOG

The group decided to be the first to present so that the nervous will not prolonged. Early in the morning we went to school in order to be prepare. We waited for about an hour since Engr. Mabulay had his class. We cannot start,since he is one of the panel.

When the panel arrived, I felt lil bit tremble in my stomach. When Maam Dalde called the first group "Legendary Girls". This is it.

Datoy and Del Puerto is in the stage, facing the panel. Mabano and I operates the powerpoint presentation. The group discussed how our problem validated, our target market and others. After presenting the ideas, all members were ask to go to stage. To have a Question and Answer.

Engr. Mabulay had his opinion first regarding our project. Through which, it made us realized that was lack of our discussion. "Is it really a problem or is it your problem? -Engr Mabulay. And all of us realized that Engr. Mabulay is right, we tend to focus on things that we thought it is the problem. Dr. Talili asked us about our topic. "Is it accessibility of Household owners tl Engineering services or Accesibility of an Engineering Services to homeowners?" He is confused of what is really our problem. So we answered him that what we are trying pursuade is the ACCESSIBILITY OF THE ENGINEERING SERVICES TOWARDS THE HOMEOWNERS. Homeowners that owns a property (LOT) and has an income average of atleast 30,000Php per month.

The things that we thought it would be a great idea turns into disappointments. Though the pitching result was a big disppointment, the grouo decided to cheer up. Look for another idea applying those suggestions gave by Engr. Mabulay. Our group admitter that we lack of realizations regarding on what is really the problem.

FINALIZATION OF THE INNOVATIVE PROJECT

A week before the pitching, our instructors had a meeting with us to finalize our topic. Well for us it serves as preliminary pitching. They asked some of confusing ideas regarding with our problem. What does our company offered?

DM² Construction Firm tend to offer all-in-one services. It comprises of documents such as permits, construction process and of course the firm will assure that clients will be satisfy and can really save time and money.

After the discussion together with our instructors, the team gathered and had some realizations and plan what should be the things that need to be prepare for the pitching. Datoy dissmenate the task. Each member should study about the topic. All of us contributes possible questions might the panel asked.

The team decided that Datoy and Del Puerto will be the pitchers. They made a rough draft for what would be the flow of the pitching. We did the final preparation for pitching on Saturday like whole day spent in the library. Discussing different things to consider

The results of the survey are not enough informations to support for our project. So, we then search some articles and other written documents with regards to the accessibility of the Engineers to the home owners. We gather it through the help of Google. Some were found in the library.

We had also interviewed an Engineer. She shared some of her experience and knowledge as an Engineer of a private firm. She told us that 24,000 Php per square meter is a rough estimate in constructing a residential dwelling. That 24,000 Php comprises the Labor and Materials Cost. Those materials are in great quality. The least price upon constructing a residential dwelling is 14,000Php in which the materials are not that good in quality.

After gathering data, we then interpret the results in line with our topic.

DATA GATHERING

FOURTH BLOG

The team decided to conduct a survey to the chosen barangays of Cagayan de Oro City. These barangay were Lapasan, Puerto, Macasandig, Camaman-an, Gusa and Cugman. The survey was conducted during Christmas break. The purpose of the survey is to gather information regarding the construction of their houses, the problem that they have been encountered upon constructing it, to whom they are preferred to manage the construction process and why did they choose them.

Upon conducting the survey, some of the residents tend to refuse and some are willing to entertain. Within the six (6) barangay mentioned, we interviewed 30 household owners. That was an adventure yet challenging experience, since we faced different types of personality.

The team interviewed residents personally. The following were the questions and the answer of the household owners:

1. Do you have your own lot?

Answer: YES - (30 respondents)

2. How much did it cost?

Answer: 200,000 Php and above

3. To whom did you trust the process of construction? An Engineer or a Carpenter?

Answer: 27 - Carpenter, 3-Engineer

4. Why not choose an Engineer? (To those respondents that choosed Carpenter)

Answer: Engineers are expensive in terms of their services and not accessible.

5. Is your house build continuosly?

Answer: Yes - 5 , No - 25

Those are the results of the survey conducted. With those informations, the group formulate the problem. We've come up resolve the accessibility of the Engineers to the home owners who earns an average income estimated 30,000 Php.

THIRD BLOG

“EASY ACCESS TO ENGINEERS TO HAVE AN INNOVATIVE HOUSE DESIGN CONCERNING YOUR BUDGET AND LOT AREA.”

December 12, 2018, Wednesday, after the discussion of Mr. Bronson, our group immediately gathered and had a scheduling on what should be the steps in order to achieve the informations needed for our project.

Our group decided to first gather information regarding on the accessibility of the people to engineers and architects to have an innovative house design which is cheaper at cost. The common Filipino problems in planning their house is the difficulty in accessing engineer and architect services, because of the fact that most of them are unapproachable and sets higher price to ordinary people.

The only thing that our group would consider is to lay-out a design with regards to the allotted area and budget of the consumer. Our group also offers different services if the consumer will pursue the designs made by the group.

Last December 15, 2018, Saturday, our group prepared set of questions to be answer by the home owners and lot owners, randomly we will go to different areas in Cagayan de Oro City to interview them. We will also have an interview to contractor engineers and if possible we can gather informations about the system of the real estate company.

The group had a second option. Aside on the accessibility of the engineers, the group found out that there is another serious problem that needs to be resolve which is the weak foundation of a structure that is huge. Weak foundation occurs when soil condition is not properly tested. Our group would like to offer a company   that installs a pier that serve as a foundation. As of now, our group continues to seek an innovation regarding to that material. This idea needs a deep research, but this is only a second option if ever things on the accessibility will not be accepted.

IDEALIZATION

SECOND BLOG 

Last Monday, December 13, 2018, our group had a discussion regarding the topic for an innovative project. All members of the group shared ideas. The first idea discussed was school supplies vending machine, second was the printing services in line also with the vending machine. School supplies vending machine can really help students for the convenience in purchasing of school supplies, while vending machine that offers printing services is for the students to be comfortable enough since printing services cannot accommodate number of students.

Suddenly, the group realized that those ideas are not appropriate for the civil engineering student. It was really out of the control of the civil engineering matter. The group had a brainstorming of ideas as the latter ideas were cancelled. Our group has lot of problems in dealing the ideas related to civil engineering aspects. Since most of the civil engineering works are dealing with structures and materials in construction. Through a lot of problems had been encountered by civil engineers, those problems are hard to relate in the field of entrepreneurship.

The main objective of this project is to innovate things that can really help the society together that acquires profit but here’s the trick, it should be in relation with civil engineering works. Civil engineering field didn’t had any potential on business were the customers are the ordinary people. Instead, its field focuses on an economy were customers are institutions (private company), government agencies and other construction firms. In line with the business, civil engineering profits occasionally but the money involve are much greater than normal business had.

The group gathered different ideas. First idea n alignment t engineering materials that has innovations but deeper idea in what should be that is not yet specified. Second idea formulated was the waste management but with latter one. Apparently, we did not specified the details yet. The third one was a service type since majority of the people especially the ordinary people whom decided to build their house, don’t usually hire engineers or architects. Hence, they prefer to have mason or carpenters. So the group had an idea on creating a small group that ordinary people can easily access or contact in their convenient time and place so that their houses will have a good quality upon constructing it. And now, the group has been challenge to innovate those things. As of now, the group is still asserting on those things.

             Our group has been started since we are in first year college. We decided to remain in the group in making “start ups”, since we have been for almost 4 years. Despite of how long you are with, you cannot easily know the personalities of each member. With this, each one of us decided to take the online personality tests and the Berkeley innovation index, so that we know further about ourselves. It helps us to decide on where to deal with the tasks that suits within our personality. The members of the group are Claire Del Puerto, Lemuel Datoy, Nathaniel Mabano and yours truly, Mica Jane Marfa.

            The result of the online personality tests declared that I’m the executive of the team. I have the capabilities to be a good leader which I really admired that personality. I honestly love to handle different people having their different personalities. The executive indicates that the person rates highest in the extraversion, intuitive, thinking, and judging dimensions. The tests result informed me that I have these personalities in which I don’t think I have those. After answering the online personality tests the next would be the Berkeley Innovation Index, in which it gives a result of how many percentage I have in the different factors that are components of my innovation mindset. These are the trusts, resilience, diversity, mental strength, collaboration, resource awareness, and innovation zone. In which I got 5.95/10, 9.16/10, 6.34/10, 8.35/10, 7.47/10, 3.81/10 and 5.95/10 respectively. Those factors specify that the currently level of my personal innovation mindset is 6.14 out of 10. The Berkeley innovation index recommends me to increase my overall effectiveness and I should seek to increase my follow-through in my commitments.

               The inspirer of the team is Ms. Claire Del Puerto. It is important to have this type of member, since we cannot say that all throughout in making a business we cannot encounter difficulties. When problem occurs in the group, here’s this person to overcome, to inspire each member that we need to work. She might be the reminder of the group that we should never let problem pull us down. She has the characteristics of extroverted, intuitive, feeling and perceiving. Her current level of personal innovation mindset is 7.76 out of 10.

               The other member of the team is Mr. Lemuel Datoy. His current level of personal innovation mindset is 6.37 out of 10. In which his trust is 5.28/10, resilience is 9.16/10, diversity is 8.88/10, mental strength is 6.93/10, collaboration 4.66/10, resource awareness 4.94/10,  and innovation zone is 5.28/10. His mindset covers both operations and innovation but leans towards operational innovation.

               The last member of the team is Mr. Nathaniel Mabano who is also the inspirer. Even before, he always makes the people surrounds him not to worry on small things that could possibly be solved. He has the characteristics of enthusiastic, charismatic, and creative. It is very important to have this kind of person in a team so that he'll be able to get consumers with the use of his charisma. His current level of personal mindset innovation is 5.45 out of 10.

               It is essential to know the different personalities that are revolving in the team. Those tests serve us the guide that each one of us has the capabilities to handle things in accordance with our personality. The Berkeley Innovation Index gave us the status on what stage we are in terms of personal innovation mindset. It helps us know that we must improve ourselves in the area wherein we have the least number of percentages.

               During our informal discussion, we have been sharing different problems that each of us were facing. The most common problem gathered is the accessibility of the store or establishment of school supplies to the students. Most of the students had this difficulty in buying immediate requirements or school materials needed, because of the fact that there is no other establishment nearby, selling school supplies but only in the mall. With that, we plan to create vending machine that offers not drinks but school supplies. We will ensure that the school supplies will be affordable for the students and other consumers. The vending machine will then be placed in an area where it is accessible to all students. Those ideas were just partial, it needs more research about the consumer and so with the making of the machine.
