It was one of those easy, quiet mornings.

You were cleaning off your hands, brushing your hair back from your face, and five fluffy seals were either lounging in sun patches or trying to shove each other off the porch with comical squeaks.

You smiled as you tossed a sardines toward Zayne and Sylus who both stayed close by, keeping you company and watching the others be weird.

For a moment, you took it all in. Before saying something that has been on your mind for a while.

“I love you,” you said offhandedly.

You meant it.

Soft. Real. Without thinking much.

And they all…

froze.

🐺 Sylus

Mid-sardine snatch.

Mouth open.

Sardine hits his nose and flops to the ground. He does not react.

His nose twitched slightly.

His seal body stiffens.

And then—flop. He disappears behind the deck post like he’s trying to pretend he didn’t just hear the one phrase he’s been waiting his whole life to believe.

You peek over the side.

“Sylus?”

He’s hiding his face behind his flipper, one thing going through his mind.

“You didn’t mean it. Did you mean it? No—don’t look at me—oh gods she meant it.”

You get a sulky, overheated cuddle attack about twenty minutes later.

🫧 Rafayel

Rafayel was mid-flip into your lap when you said it.

He misses.

Lands sideways. Slides off like a damp loaf of bread.

Then whips his head around and stares at you—wide-eyed. Immediately turns into his human form.

“You love me? ME? Are you aware of what you’ve just done??”

He wraps his arms around your shoulders, and melts against you.

“Say it again. Slowly. And then never take it back.”

You laugh.

He kisses your hair.

“I will be insufferable now.”

(He is.)

🪨 Zayne

Zayne freezes completely.

Wasn't even looking at you when you said it. Just basking in a sunbeam, half-dozing. But now his eyes are open, pupils dilated, breath stilled.

You say it again with a small smile.

“I love you, you know.”

He doesn’t move for another full minute.

Then?

Turns into human form. Sits down beside you. Very quiet.

And rests his forehead against your shoulder.

No words.

Just the warmth of his presence, the weight of it.

“I’ve always wanted to be told that...”

You didn’t say anything else. You just let him lean.

This boy?

Explodes.

He was mid-roll, flopping across the sand with glee, when your words hit.

He goes airborne.

Rolls once more. Sits up in seal form like a soggy cinnamon bun, and switches into his human form.

“YOU LOVE ME???”

You laugh. “Obviously!”

He immediately switches back to seal form and flops to your feet, stares at you with full sparkling anime seal eyes, and shifts into human back to form so fast he trips over his own foot.

“Do you want a fish? A rock? A hat? MY HEART?”

You end up tackled into the sand with so much affection and a heartfelt demand:

“Say it again!! I need to hear it a million times!!”

🌊 Xavier

Xavier, of course, already knew.

But he didn’t expect to hear it. So casually. So easily.

He lifts his head from where he was trying to doze on your lap. Blinks. Whiskers twitch once.

You glance down. “You good?”

He stares at you like he’s memorizing your face.

Then he leans forward.

Presses his head to your chest.

Seal-form. Silent.

You pet him gently.

He doesn’t move for a long time. But eventually, you hear the tiniest sound—

A soft exhale. A hum. A seal’s version of a thank you.

One you don’t need to understand to feel.

That Night...

None of them bring it up again directly.

But Sylus hovers closer than usual. Rafayel keeps brushing your fingers with his. Zayne quietly takes over your chores. Caleb sings love songs to the plushie you. And Xavier lies curled against your back like he’s guarding something sacred.

You fall asleep with one thought echoing gently in your chest:

SSR COMPANIONS LINE UP SPECULATIONS 🧐💭

context: while watching rafayel’s new myth trailer the first time, i caught something that piqued my interest and perhaps would be worthy of your time as well. in short i started theory crafting and i couldn’t get it out of my head.

disclaimer: i know so little about the myths and i have not read any of them despite having them all—evading grief; not ready. this is pure speculation based off the pattern i’m seeing with the companions, existing online visuals, delusion, and gut feeling. 😗💭👀

this speculative post dwells on what we might see in relation to new upcoming companions.

THESE ARE THE CURRENT COMPANIONS LINE UP:

(1) STANDARD SSR COMPANIONS

(2) 1st LIMITED SSR COMPANIONS

(3) 2nd LIMITED SSR COMPANIONS

pattern: (1) standard ssr companions for rafayel, xavier, and zayne were from a past/future timeline; while sylus and caleb are set in the current timeline following the main story. (the 6th li will likely follow this pattern too.)

(2) god of the tides, lumiere, and master of fate were from a distant past/future preceding their standard myths; while abysm sovereign and ult. weapon x-02 were from an ancient timeline (in future, as in they predate their current existing myth).

(ancient, i cannot think of another word.😗)

am i making sense? no? i have a visual aid.🥹🤲

theory: for xavier and zayne’s upcoming myth, we might see them in a more ancient timeline, like lemurian sea god rafayel; while sylus and caleb’s upcoming myth will likely be set in a distant past/future timeline.

sylus’ companion/myth would likely be related to the events in the timelock key event.👀🥹😭🤚

(if we’re going to count the OG3’s sr companions as their current timeline companions then they gotta add more sylus and caleb companions.)

ultimately this speculation implies a possibility for more myths. 🥹💸
