Swimming numerous benefits, such as the following:
It’s a full-body workout
If you don’t want to hit the gym for your workout, why not go swimming instead? Did you know that swimming engages almost all the major muscle groups in your body? When you go swimming, it helps increase heart rate without putting stress on the body, improves your body strength, improves your fitness, and even helps you manage your weight.
It helps improve your sleep
There have been studies involving older adults with insomnia that have reported to have improved sleep when they exercise regularly. As swimming is a full-body workout, it can help in improving the body’s overall functionality, including your ability to fall asleep and getting a better quality of sleep each night.
It can help in boosting moods
Exercise can help in releasing endorphins, which boosts your mood. It may even boost your confidence and social skills, which can impact your self-esteem. Going for a swim is a great way to relieve anxiety and stress in your day-to-day and just let go.

What our Clients are Saying…
"We are getting ready to do another project with Michael Nash and the planning has reminded me why they are a great partner to do home project work. We used them about 14 years ago for a major remodel and the work has held up beautifully. They suggested adding a screened in porch at the time, and with spending more time at home we have used this beautiful porch with skylights and ceiling fan extensively. They offer expert consultation, design, cost options and professionalism. The one stop shopping show room makes picking out materials easy without any compromising on choices. I highly recommend them."
"The family room addition was completed to our total satisfaction. The crews were professional and responsive. Several unforeseen issues were handled quickly and completely. our family has enjoyed the enhanced space immensely."
"Michael Nash finished our basement which included installing a full bath. It was a terrific experience from start to finish. Communication with the company was excellent. The professionalism of the entire staff from Sonny to the installers, was demonstrated by their design suggestions, attention to detail, and addressing all matters promptly. Our experience with the Michael Nash team lead us to working with them again to remodel both our upstairs bathrooms."

FAIRFAX VIRGINIA
An outdoorsy town that's grown tremendously over recent years, Fairfax certainly has a lot to offer. Let's summarize some of our best recommendations when spending some time in the Fairfax, VA:
According to the Trust for Public Land, Fairfax has some of the highest-quality parks and public outdoor spaces in the country. If the weather is cooperative, then Van Dyck Park, Ratcliffe Park, Daniels Run Park and Kutner Park are four of the most-visited outdoor spots in the metro area. Providence Park, Stafford Drive Park and Thaiss Park are additional solid outdoor options.
If you'd rather do something indoors, a wide array of impressive museums and galleries can be found in Fairfax. Three of the city's more celebrated collections can be found at the Fairfax Museum and Visitor Center, NRA National Firearms Museum and Fairfax Station Railroad Museum. In addition to that trio, other places worth visiting are the Historic Blenheim, Ratcliffe-Logan-Allison House, and Children's Science Center Lab.
If your schedule allows for it, you may discover that a couple of the nearby sports teams are in town. The most famous organizations (the Fredericksburg Grizzlies and Washington Valor) continually deliver large audiences, while the other squads (the Maryland GreenHawks, D.C. United, and DC Divas Football) provide serious athletic competition in fun, kid-friendly settings.
Additional Fairfax-area places to consider include NOVA Parks, Room Escape Fairfax, Old Town Hall, and Fairfax City's Farmers Market - Farm to Fairfax.

Is Your Child a Baseball Enthusiast? Have Them Join the Fairfax Little League!
Baseball is one of America’s past time. It’s a game that’s anticipated by most citizens and supported by over millions of people nationwide. Does your child dream of making it into the big leagues someday? Maybe they should start young and join the little leagues.
If you and your family are staying in Fairfax, Virginia, your child can try out for Fairfax’s Little League. In the Fairfax Little League, many skilled young baseball players are working to become the best in their position and competing in other little leagues in many competitions.
Fairfax Little League has professional coaches and friendly volunteers who can help your child nurture their talent in baseball. Still not sure if you want to allow your child to join your local baseball league?
There are benefits to letting them play baseball and joining their local league. Here, we discuss the benefits of allowing your child to join your local baseball league:
They can hone their skill in baseball
What better way to support your child’s passion for the sport than by allowing them to challenge themselves and enter a baseball league where they have to work hard, so they can develop their skills. Joining your local league means that they have professionals watching over their progress, peers with the same passion and dedication as them, and equipment and facilities to help them keep up with their training.
Don’t allow your child to put their talents to waste and let them willingly work their way into becoming the best baseball player they can be.
They get to socialize and spend time with their peers
Baseball is a team sport, so it means that there will be other children who will be practicing and playing with them. It’s always a great opportunity for your child to create bonds with their peers and have people they can relate to when it comes to the sport. They also get to meet people from different backgrounds and those who will motivate them to work hard and be better at the sport.
They can experience games and challenges that they can learn and grow from
What’s great about competitive sports is that it lets your children learn from their experiences first hand, whether it’s from winning or losing. Having these experiences as a child allows them to grow into more well-rounded individuals in the future. It nurtures values in them, like teamwork, resiliency in defeats, and good sportsmanship.
It helps them exercise their body and mind
What’s great about having them engage in sports is that they get to run around outdoors and have the exercise they need. Exercise is not only great for their physical health but their mental health as well. Having a sport means they have something to turn to so they can let out the stress they feel from their academics. Not only that, but exercise improves their cognitive ability as well.
These are just some of the many benefits your child can get when they join their local baseball league. Of course, not everyone may be set out for the course, but supporting your child in their dreams is one way to help them learn and grow from their experiences. It’s also always best to guide them should they need a helping hand.
The Fairfax Little League is open to children ages 7 and above, so if your child wants to start early, have them join tryouts when it’s available!

Building a Home? Choose a Farmhouse-Style Design
For some, building a house means coming up with something unique. But sometimes, choosing the right design can make you anxious. To help make the choice a little easier, why don't you try a farmhouse-style concept?
If you’re wondering if it would appropriate to incorporate the design even in the suburbs, know that this style doesn’t mean that you have to actually live in the countryside. However, it's distinguishing features both interior and exterior make-up this iconic style. Like its predecessor, the updated farmhouse still features a front porch. But rather as a space for storing wood like in the old days, it now serves as an outdoor living space.
How Do You Get That Look?
The Exterior
There's an enduring warmth that comes with a farmhouse-style design. Wood still plays a major element on the exterior of this house today. And it's not only lots of wood. There are also stones to further emphasize the use of natural materials. Choose stones that have lighter hues, especially if you're adding them to the walkway. If stones don't give much of an appeal to the design you are going for, then use bricks. Adding bricks will give a little color and texture to the porch posts or foundation.
Also, it's quite normal to have two large porches - front and back. This can serve as a dining area or an area to socialize with your guests. Your front porch adds character to your entire home and property. This area will speak volumes about your personality as well. How about adding a picket fence? Put a whitewashed one to bring that olden days' charm.
The Interior
Let's talked about what's inside. Back then, farmhouses had a low ceiling. However, this is not the case now as it's all about comfort with all the space from the floor to the ceiling. Speaking of flooring, another classic farmhouse feature is hardwood floors. Remember to make the color of the floor far enough to give it an aged appeal. Other things that you should consider are the following:
Wood that is reclaimed
Furniture made of pine
Accents made-up of wrought iron
Plank floors that are wide
Accessories which are mostly vintage
Entire wall so windows
Go for a built-in refrigerator
Hide anything modern so as not to break the aesthetic appeal
If you have a specific house style that you're dreaming of, visit Michael Nash. We understand that you're bewitched by the farmhouse design. And you're not alone. These designs have become the favorites for both rural and suburban families alike. Call us now. We are here to create unique and creative spaces for homeowners. Be it on the inside or the outside, we make it a point to have our clients in mind.

Things You Should Know Before Having a Home Remodeling Project
Home remodeling is an adventure, an undertaking with numerous moving parts. It’s also a project that could easily go astray. This usually happens if you are tempted to skip some very important parts. So if you want to make sure your renovation turns out all right, it's essential that you prepare. But what should you consider before taking that restorative leap? Here is a guide on what you should do before embarking on any home remodeling project. This will help you avoid a whole bunch of headaches and regrets.
1. Know What Your End Goal Is
The first part is the crucial stage in your project. Before you even start this stage, you should have spent a lot of time browsing for ideas. Flip through home decorating magazines, watch reality tv design shows, or go through Pinterest. By this time, you have your own visual presentation of what you like. Your contractor will forever be thankful. This gives them a clue about what direction to take your project. It would be easier for them to create a cohesive design based on your suggestions and vision. You have already given them the whole idea.
Also, if your main goal of remodeling is to increase the value of your home so that you have the highest return when you sell, then you should do return on investment (ROI) research. Remodeling projects that are low maintenance, good quality, and aren’t too costly have the highest ROI.
2. Do the Right Calculations
Do you know why some people call it a “dream house?” That’s because sometimes, it’s just a figment of one’s imagination. Thanks to budget constraints. Any home remodeling project will come with an unexpected twist. If $20,000 is the most you can spend, then at least try to have $18,000 for you to operate.
3. Obtain the Proper Papers
Some of the work your contractor will be doing to your home will require the necessary permits. Below is a checklist of renovations that usually need the proper papers:
Window installation
Installation and repair of the fence
Structural changes like home additions
Most HVAC maintenance projects (like installing a new water heater)
Home piping system changes
Eyes here: don’t assume your contractor will take care of getting the permit as this is not always the case. Before you hire a team, make sure they’re able and willing to get the permit themselves. If not, then you have to do it on your own.
Quality and customer satisfaction have been the hallmarks of Michael Nash Design & Build approach to construction. From new home construction to major home remodeling projects, to the construction of unique architectural projects, we represent quality and integrity in design and building. Our team of experienced construction professionals performs and oversees all project work. Numerous homeowners have commended our work.

Generally, your 2nd story additions can be done in four ways, depending on your preference, your home’s foundation, and your state’s building regulations. Here are the ways you can go about it:
Renovating from scratch
One of the options you can have for your 2nd Story improvement is to tear off the roof and build a whole new upper level from scratch. However, it’s better if you seek advice from a reputable contractor if this option is applicable to your home. That’s because they have to determine if your home’s foundation can handle the upper-level renovation you have planned for your home.
Temporarily severing the roof
Another way to go about this is to sever the existing roof around the edges and lift it off temporarily to frame in the second level of your home. Once you’re done, you can place it back and continue on with your 2nd story additions.
Expanding the space
You can also expand the upper level of your home across an already existing one-story section, like your flat roof garage or your porch.
Adding a modular design
Having a modular second story addition to your home is one of the quickest and cost-effective ways for you to add a 2nd story addition to your home. It is customized and built off-site and bought fully built to your home.
The Expected Cost of Your 2nd Story Addition
The cost will probably depend on how much work you want to be done in your house. Also, if the foundation of your house is enough for a 2nd story addition, then the cost may be a lot lower on your home renovation. However, if you still need a stable foundation for your house to have another level, then it may be more costly.
Another tip would be that it’s better if you lift off your existing roof to add another level rather than spend on a whole new roof as it is a more cost-effective option.
Experts in Constructing Your Home’s 2nd Story Addition
If you plan to have an additional level to your home or renovate your second story, make sure to consult a professional contractor. They know how you can make the most out of your space or if your plans are feasible and can meet your state’s building code.

Planning to Use Marble Design for Your Next Bathroom Remodel in VA?
Have you thought about what your next bathroom design would look like? For any homeowner, their bathroom is where they perform self-care tasks, so having a visually appealing bathroom to go to every morning can delight them as soon as they wake up so that they can get started for another productive day.
And although an all-white design is the ultimate go-to for any minimalist individual, having an element of texture to your bathroom design can make a significant impact on the overall look. And if you want a bit of texture to your design, marble is the perfect design to add to your chic or timeless bathroom design.
A marble pattern is versatile and can go with any aesthetic you’re going for, of course, depending on the type of marble you use.
As a contractor that has done numerous bathroom remodel in VA, Michael Nash gives you marble designs that would perfect for your next bathroom renovation project.
Types of Marble Designs
Calacatta Marble
When it comes to luxurious marble designs, calacatta marble is unlike any other in terms of beauty and quality. It’s known for its glimmering appearance and classic appeal; however, this type of marble can be both rare to find and expensive.
This can be an excellent choice for your next bathroom remodel in VA as its white color can create the illusion of a more spacious bathroom, making it a great choice for powder rooms and small bathrooms. Since calacatta marble is mostly white, it can be paired with any color. So if you want to go bold with your bathroom color, this marble is perfect for you.
Talathello Marble
If you’re looking for a unique marble that’s the embodiment of elegance, you can make use of the talathello marble. This marble has varying tones of silver and beige which complements its light grey background. It’s a great design that would add texture to vanities and even a corner bathtub.
This marble design would fit best in a neutral chic bathroom to add a medium-dark tone to the design’s overall color scheme.
Emperador Marble
This marble design infamous for its medium to dark brown color scheme and intense white veining. Although it presents a rougher look to any bathroom, it would look perfect if you’re planning a more natural design for your next bathroom remodel in VA. The rough texture of this marble design would complement light brown color schemes or even balance out the simplicity of white elements in the bathroom with its intense pattern.
Carrara Marble
If you’re looking for a cheaper and common alternative for the Calacatta marble, then you can use a Carrara marble. It has a light grey background with delicate veining which makes it another contender to add the touch of elegance you want in your bathroom.
Like the Calacatta, the use of the Carrara is also versatile, making it a great element to add to your classic bathroom design or your modern bathroom. Although it can be dainty-looking, this marble is actually robust, making it perfect for your next bathroom remodel in VA.

Things You Probably Haven’t Considered When You Construct Your Bathroom
When you plan for bathroom renovations, there are many aspects of it that you think about that you leave out some parts that may be simple but very integral during construction. We’ve all gone through it; however, when you have an expert contractor with you, you don’t have to worry about the details.
But if you’re planning to DIY your way into renovating your bathroom, then you probably should keep these things in mind before starting:
Enough Storage
When constructing your bathroom, you might only have your thoughts on simply the essentials, which are the bathtub or shower, sink, and toilet. But have you thought about the cabinets or drawers you’re going to use? If you haven’t, this is equally important as it’s where you’re going to put your toiletries and even your towels. You have to make sure that your bathroom storage doesn’t take up too much space or waste space in your bathroom. It should also be made of durable material that can withstand the conditions of your bathroom.
You can consult a professional if you’re unsure about the material that would best suit your bathroom.
Slip-proof Bathrooms
This aspect is especially important if you have seniors or persons with disabilities visiting your home. Slip-proof rugs would result in them tripping into them, so you must invest in slip-proof floor tiles that would best suit the overall design of your bathroom. You can ask a professional who is adept in bathroom renovations to give you advice on what type of tile should you choose.
Good Ventilation
Having good ventilation is important to keep your bathroom from getting molds. It’s something that most homeowners don’t think about but should. They have to make sure that their bathroom has exhaust fans that are large enough for space and that it vents to the outside. Otherwise, all the moist warm air stays on your roof, letting molds grow in your attic. Hence, you should install an adequate ventilation system when you go about your bathroom renovations.
Have Room for You to Clean
Make sure that your bathroom isn’t too cramped that you won’t have space to clean all of the dirt. You need enough space between the tub, shower, sink, and cabinets so that it will fit your mop and rugs.
If anything, you can get help from a professional to give you advice on how you can make the most out of your space.

5 Important Things You Need to Think About Before Your Bathroom Remodel Ideas
Most of the time, when we put our minds to it, we already want it done. Having a new and improved bathroom not only amps the luxury in the house, but it also raises its value. And although it may seem like a small job, there are very complex factors that come into play when bathroom remodeling is involved.
Hence, before you think about your bathroom remodel ideas, you have to think about its process and all the factors that come with it.
As an interior design firm that has been doing bathroom remodeling projects for years now, many homeowners struggle with their home’s upkeep, especially with their bathrooms. If you’re planning to renovate your bathroom, here are things you should consider.
Your Finances
Of course, before you even think of revamping your bathroom, you need to set aside the budget for it. It’s better to know what your maximum budget is for the renovation before you step into it. Make sure you either have enough money saved for the construction or you’re capable of getting a loan for it.
If you’re planning to get a loan for your home’s renovation, you can do so as well. A home equity loan is a common option for most homeowners. This is because home equity loans are tax-deductible. Other options homeowners use are no-equity loans, personal loans, and retirement loans, among others.
The Essentials
You need to think about what you need for your bathroom. Of course, you’d consider the essential, which are the toilet, sink, and shower. However, when you have these in place, you also have to determine its costs and if it will fit your budget. If you have the extra cash, you can even add storage. However, you shouldn’t just simply buy cheap products. You need to buy bathroom essentials that’s value for your money, one that has both quality and style.
The Design
Your bathroom’s layout is also an important factor you should consider. If you’re only working with a small bathroom, then you should consider a layout that ensures you have enough space to move around. With all the moisture that’s going be in your bathroom, you have to make sure that your room is risk-free.
Even if you have a keen eye for interior design, it’s always best to consult a professional so that your bathroom does not have any wasted space or that it’s not too cluttered to look at. Also, they’ll be able to help you determine what should be done to make it fit with the overall look and feel of your home.
Your House’s Plumbing
And this is one of the reasons why you shouldn’t DIY your bathroom renovation unless you’re a trained plumber. The complexities of knowing how your home’s water flow and drainage go can be handled by an interior design firm that has a team of professionals who can handle your bathroom’s planning and effectively come up with a solution that will make your bathroom both stylish and functional.
The Right Contractor
The people you partner with for your bathroom’s renovation should be one that’s reputable in the community. They should have a whole portfolio that’s versatile in terms of design. Most importantly, the contractor you hire should also be easy to work with and should accommodate your needs throughout the whole process.
And that’s what our team at Michael Nash aims to do. If you’re looking for an interior design firm that’s committed to bringing your bathroom remodeling ideas to life, get in touch with us today. We look forward to working with you in the future.

Get a Taste of America’s History When You Visit the Historic Blenheim and the Civil War Interpretive Center
Virginia is a state that is rich in so much American history. When you go through towns, you see sites that are lost in time, with structures that have dated back since the time George Washington had become president and some towns and cities had only been discovered.
Many areas of Virginia have been areas of battles and places where many individuals who have influenced are history have come to live and gather. One place where you can take a glimpse of the country’s past is the Historic Blenheim and the Civil War Interpretive Center.
What You Should Know About the American Civil War
This was the war between the United States and the 11 southern states that seceded from the Union and formed the Confederate States of America.
The Confederate States of America was composed of armies from the Southern states, also known as slave states. This includes South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina. This ensuing outbreak of armed hostilities was caused by the growing sectional friction over slavery.
Between 1815 and 1861, the Northern states, despite having small farms, were rapidly modernizing and diversifying, opening its doors to industrialization. They had invested in various transportation systems, the financial industry, and a huge communications network. On the other hand, the south was still focused on producing commercial crops and invested more in slaves as the main labor force rather than factories and railroads.
When Abraham Lincoln, the candidate of the explicitly antislavery Republican party won the presidential election in 1860, seven southern states, South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabaman, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas, threatened the president and organized the Confederate States of America.
By 1865, the principal Confederate armies surrendered, and when the Union cavalry captured the escaped Confederate President Jefferson Davis in Georgia on May 10, 1865, resistance collapsed and the war ceased. America became a united nation that was free of slavery and gave equal rights to liberty.
And now, we see bits and pieces of this history carved in some sites across the country, including Fairfax, Virginia. Through these sites, we learn about the bravery and dedication soldiers had as they fought against those who pushed for slavery, making America the country that continuously strives for equality today.
What You Should Know About the Historic Blenheim and the Civil War Interpretive Center
The Historic Blenheim is a Greek-Revival-style brick farmhouse built by Albert Willcoxon in 1859. This house has historical significance as it contains voluminous examples of Civil War inscriptions. It has more than 122 signatures, pictographs, games, and thoughts that were left on the house walls by Union soldiers when they occupied the Fairfax Court House area.
This diary on walls provides visitors an insight into the lives of soldiers during the war and the effects the war had on locals, especially the free and enslaved individuals of African descent.
In the Civil War Interpretive Gallery, you can see wall inscriptions and pictographs that were reproduced from the Historic Blenheim and full-scaled pictographs in the replica attic. There’s also a gallery that has an illustrated timeline of Civil War events, artifacts that interpret the lives of soldiers, biographies of some wall signers, and temporary displays.
The Civil War Center also holds monthly Civil War Programs that feature short videos on local Fairfax Civil War topics.
You can visit the venue in Fairfax, Virginia to learn more about the civil war and the lives of the people that have experienced it.
