My "this is how the star wars sequels could be good" argument is simply: you let rey go dark-side in episode 8 and kylo properly become The New Master Manipulator BUT you completely rewrite Finn's side of the story to 1) not be shit. 2) hint at and then reveal at the end by having HIM lift the rocks and save everyone that he's force sensitive, so in episode 9 Finn is The Jedi hope of the rebellion who insists there's still good in Rey and he can get through to her. And then you end it with a 3-way lightsaber battle between finn rey and kylo as like a bookend to the end of 7 that 1) shows how far all three of them have come since that fight, 2) still lets you get in those circlejerk callbacks to luke vader and palpatine because it's a similar setup.
