MIKA WASN’T ONE FOR SENTIMENTS USUALLY. yes, she has never really been able to get rid of anything she’s swiped ( usually preferring to keep them in a small shoebox to look back on in the future ) and yes, she wears her favourite childhood movies like odd little security blankets. but that didn’t usually extend to people. people kinda came and went in mika’s life. and for the most part, they let them. nate was one of those people. he came and went, came and went, and came and went for a while. honestly, for so long that mika kinda expected things to always be that way. but life loves to go against expectations in that way. and so despite how things had always been nate was staying. maybe not forever, but for longer than he ever had before. and some may say that mika was taking advantage of that situation by visiting nate as often as she did, but she liked to call it... well. maybe it was taking advantage. “well, it’s no fun if you’re expecting it...” mika murmurs with a pout in response to nate as she moves to bend into a crouch, her toes spreading in the sand for balance. her chin is resting in the crook of her hand for a moment as she thoughtfully gazes up at nate and resists the urge to straighten up and take a peek at what he’s writing with every ounce of self restraint in her. her body says yes. and her heart also says yes. but mika’s mind at least knows that the invasion of privacy might not be appreciated. so instead she huffs and adds, “and it can’t be that bad can it?” mika’s brow arches as she reaches forward to nudge nate’s notebook with a finger, easily adding, “can i see?”

there was something different about the island air at makai. it was definitely better than the smog of los angeles, that much nate could concede to. he’d never really fit in while living in los angeles; it was never really home to him like makai was home. when he thought about it, the only downside was really the fact that the only skating rink on the island was hardwood, not ice ( which makes sense, all things considered ), so he couldn’t practice as much as he wanted to. still, he would get time on the ice when he flew back to los angeles. now, all he needed was the ukulele in his lap and the cold beer in his hand as he sat on one of the beach chairs he’d stolen from his dad’s house that morning. his nose was buried in the spiral notebook that sat on one knee, so he hardly noticed the sudden shade over him as someone stepped in front of him – hardly. “if you’re here to kill me, just get it over with already. the way this writing is going, i kinda’ wanna do it myself,” he huffed without looking up.

MIKA STUMBLES TO A STOP AT LUCA’S WORDS, her brow arching in curiosity as she looks him over. there is a moment before they are making their way forward to him, arching a brow as she bends at the waist to peer over at what he’s doing. “y’know, strangely enough, not everything is about you, lulu...” the accusatory narrowing of mika’s gaze is playful despite her words, and after a moment she reaches forward to gently pluck the joint out of luca’s hand without preamble. “besides, why would i tell on you?” mika asks as she plops down beside luca, her eyes flicking up to the sky thoughtfully before they add, “also who would i tell? also also...” mika’s grin is impish as they peer at luca, her gaze twinkling as she asks, “do you have a light?” 

it’s a good day to get high. that’s all that’s been in luca’s mind for the past five hours. he had to play an hour set like four times today. he’s just sick of the same songs. he makes a mental note to learn new tunes, but for now, he’s heading to the park with his guitar on his back and his bike by his side. he sits on the grass with a groan. he’s so tired. pulling out a perfectly rolled joint from his wallet, luca’s about to light it when he sees someone walking up to him. “are you here to tell on me?” he grins, “or are you here to keep me company?”

MIKA IS LAID OUT IN THE SUN AT JOSIE’S SIDE, sprawled on a threadbare snoopy the dog towel as squints at the sun through heart shaped sunglasses. however, at josie’s complaint mika can only blink in surprise for a moment before she’s straightening and moving to rummage through the her backpack with a murmur of, “uh.... phone, headphones, bottled water, snacks, gum, candy...” each word is emphasized by mika tossing said item about a foot away from her as she frowns, her brow furrowing for a moment before she’s gasping brightly and moving to turn to josie with a bright, “sunglasses!” mika’s smile is bright as she slides the star shaped sunglasses gently onto josie’s face, her dimples showing as she nods and gently pushes up the bridge of the glasses with a finger. “perfect! holy shit, those look great on you?” mika pulls back to admire josie for a moment before she’s blinking and, “fuck i forgot the sunscreen. fuck!” mika turns back to rummaging through her bag with a mumble of, “okay, just gimme a second... it’s gotta be in here somewhere, i never leave the house without it...”

the sun was hot and god, it was bright. josie had gone out to the beach with the intention of laying out in the sun and reading her book for a bit on her afternoon off but she couldn’t get herself to focus because of the heat. to make matters worse, one of the kids that she nannies had stepped on her pair of sunglasses the day before and broken the lens so she couldn’t even block her eyes. “this is an absolute disaster,” she lamented, partially to herself and partially to the nearby person. “not only am i burning my retinas but i can feel myself getting a sunburn too. do you happen to have any sunscreen?”

BIO. hi margaret, i hope this email blows your tits clean off

i’ll make mike a proper bio one day, but today is not that day

she grew up here in hawaii and was raised by her two mother’s. she was a sperm donor baby rather than adopted, and although mika hates to think that her entire existence is due to some old guy doing what he needed to into a jar and some rando with a turkey baster, she’s thankful mostly. 

she’s never met donor dad and she never wants to, please see above. she simply wouldn’t be able to look that man in the eye. 

but her moms were her moms. they were okay. at a young age mika’s mama noticed that she was a bit of a looker and she therefore decided to get mika into some baby modeling and such. mika booked a few little local jobs, and quickly became a semi well known face around town. this only became bigger when mama decided to make mika the face of her small local business. mika’s mother owns an ethical sunscreen brand, which as you can guess is very lucrative in a place like this. mika’s cute little face has therefore been in like storefronts. in local commercials. hell, she even did little ads on the radio. at one point this little loser was even in pageants, and she got second place in ms. hawaii! like baby was a tiny star! 

she really hated it though. 

like mika just wasn’t a fan of the vibe yk. and she didn’t really have much of a say in the career path considering her parents got her into it when she was in diapers, and when she tried to be like !!! i’m tired of this grandpa !!! her mama was big emotionally manipulative, big guilt trip vibes, big ‘after all that we’ve done for you this is how you pay us back!’ vibes. mika was called everything under the sun for not wanting to be her mother’s little dress up doll, and we hate that for her so much. 

mika also hated it honestly, so she started acting out a bit in her early teens. she started going out to parties and local clubs, she started hanging out with older boys and girls, she started taking them drugs and incidentally she made a name for herself in a whole other way. her mama wasn’t happy about that, as you can guess because !!! mika represented her brand !!! what if this got out??

but mika didn’t particularly care if it got out tbh. she just wanted to have fun. she wanted to be a person rather than a manequin. and despite her mom’s best efforts to mediate, mika and her mama had a big blow out fight one night that resulted in mika being told to get in line or get out!! 

she got out. 

so mika has been living semi on her own since she was seventeen. couch surfing, mostly. for a while she lived with her older sibling, who is an wc btw, nudge nudge, wink wink, and then with a friend, and then with a boyfriend, and then with a girlfriend. honestly, sometimes mika would do a little flirting just so she’d have somewhere to stay the night. that’s until she finally saved enough up and found cool enough people to live with. now she rents an apartment with three or four friends, new girl style. this is also a wc, wink wonk. 

she’s now working as a lifeguard at the local resort. she’s pretty good at her job, but she mostly just chills out and re-enacts that WALK PLEASE tiktok all day with her little whistle. she also still to this day regularly gets stopped by people being like omg you’re the ʻōpuʻu lā girl !! and mika simply has to be like haha yes that’s me, and pose for a little picture. she kinda hates the reputation, especially when those little fan encounters inconveniently happen on a walk of shame, but honestly she loves makai and hawaii and she literally cannot imagine living anywhere else so. yuh, she suffers for love.

she’s poor, so whenever she goes to like starbucks or even the hotel she steals from them. like not anything serious but like all those packets of sugar and complimentary tea? hers now. the stirring sticks? in her pockets. the little bottles of shampoo and soap? don’t mind if she does. honestly, she probably even showers there when she’s in a pinch, just sneakily does it by snatching someone’s room key and returning it before they notice. honestly, is mike a bit of a klepto? maybe so. jj maybank pls interact. 

the kind of girl who tells strangers she loves them just to see what they’ll do. like she’s on the phone with the pizza guy and she’s like kay love you ! and when he says love you back she’s like omg,,, are we about to kiss rn ??

omg i almost forgot, but mika wrote a fanfic as a teenager that is like wildly popular. like she’s literally having publishers like reach out to her wanting to smack that thing into like real life bookstores. honestly, mika hates the fic and thinks it’s stupid, but she’s not going to say no to money. i imagine that the fic was like ??? a maze runner fic maybe. baby has some class yk.
