So, I was looking up rare dog breeds the other day and I found this weird motherfucker.
This guy is called a Xoloitzcuintli,聽 Also known as a Mexican Hairless dogs.聽 It is believed to be one of the oldest breeds of dog in the world.聽 These dogs have lived in Mexico for as long as people have lived in Mexico.
So the Aztecs really really loved these guys.聽 They believed them to have healing powers.聽 They believed the god Xolotl made them from the Bone of Life.
The Aztecs also would kill the dogs when the owner died, believing that the dog would guide the owner鈥檚 spirit to the afterlife.
And then I remembered these screenshots from Coco.
Which by the way.聽 Is a story of a Mexican boy going to the afterlife.
That鈥檚 a really nice detail Disney.
But I just think that鈥檚 it important to point this out, because I truly believe that dog breeds are incredibly important aspects of human history and human culture, and this example really shows it.
