lenny looked down at the shattered remains of her phone before gingerly picking it up in an attempt to not cut herself on the shards of glass and muttered a curse under her breath. it was toast, that much was clear. “so,” she mused, “think i could get away with saying this was normal wear and tear?” the question was a failing attempt at a joke that fell rather flat causing them to wince slightly. but she was really regretting not getting that extra insurance when she’d bought it a few months ago. and not backing it up anytime since. “this seriously blows.”

helena hart and her twin sister, aster, were born to a camp half-blood alum, mason hart. their father should have known better than to get involved in the affairs of the gods, but the son of eros had always been a bit of a romantic. after the girls were born, his attentions turned towards them fully. they had a relatively normal childhood, though it was clear from the start that the hart family was a bit odd.

lenny and her sister were near inseparable in their childhood, and that didn’t change when they began attending camp half blood during the summer. for the two, as long as they had each other, everything would be fine. but things are rarely fine, as lenny would find out.

aster began pulling away from her during their teen years, something lenny didn’t really know what to do with except find her own group of friends. while her sister became more withdrawn and secretive, lenny was thriving with the other demigods. it wasn’t until the war that lenny found out why aster had pulled away from her and she discovered the depth of her twin’s bitterness towards the gods.

like so many other demigods, aster’s loyalties had been turned towards the side of the titans, and while she implored lenny to join her, lenny remained fully on the side of the camp half-blood fighting against the titans. her sister was killed during the war.

lenny never had the chance to make up with her sister, something she still blames herself for. maybe if she had tried the other side, she could have talked her sister into returning. maybe if she had tried harder when her sister pulled away, aster would still be alive. it’s hard looking in the mirror when all she sees is the same face of the sister who betrayed her and everything she thought they stood for even as she gets older when her sister never will.

the years since then have difficult for lenny, though she’s tried to move forward. she still carries her bitterness over the titans and gods fighting a war that she believes they should have never been involved with. she’s studying astronomy in university, though she loathes the connection to her own mother now.
