I'm kind of obsessed with the way sheep are handled. So efficiently. It always looks kind of unpleasant at first and then you notice the sheep are fine with it. Butterfly Effect Devlog

So, it's been two months since I posted the epilogue of B!effect (almost exactly, I believe the epilogue was posted 5/8 or 5/9?). My original prognosis was 1-3 months for CH5 to come out, and I am here to yap about where the series is going and where I'm at with the writing!

As people probably know, I wrote CH4 very very fast, Most of my current progress on CH5 is from around the same time period. If we're talking technicality, Chapter 5 is at abouttt 73k words rn. So, longer than a normal novel. But there's still a lot I want to write,, maybe about five more chapters for the daily life? Which honestly vary in word length in this thing so much I can't really quantify it.

I drew a thing to indicate about where I'm at with writing right now.

So, I'm definitely over halfway there! Not quite 3/4, though- maybe 3/5? That is if we're going off the og novel's word count, though based on exactly how hyped I get to write it and how far my inspiration carries me, we may end up getting past the 110k word mark including the deadly life.

Since I already have so much done, I've heavily considered just starting to post it- maybe just, slowly. But considering I still have an entire murder to set up and I like to be meticulous about editing for plot and such (for example, if I finish a chapter that requires me to edit an earlier one for better foreshadowing, etc). And an essential aspect of the daily life is that it does lead into the deadly life, and I want to make sure I set up the murder properly, even though I REALLY DON'T LIKE WRITING MURDERS. Like I cannot properly explain how much the thought of the deadly life fills me with dread.

CH5 has gotten a looot more complicated since I try my best to include internal consistency, which means everything and the whole plot progression from ch4 affects each of the characters in their own way. And it's definitely more character-driven than plot-driven so far, so their dynamics are important to get right. Also it's just,, a lot of words. Various things are occurring.

Honestly my progress since 5/8 has been... questionable... my ADHD got really bad since I stopped taking my meds like an idiot fuckhead and so I've been all over the place and kinda unable to lock in. Technically I've only written 12k words for chapter 5 since that day, HOWEVER. If you look at the other fics I've written since that time, that's 30k words- plus the 12k would be enough to almost finish it! So I do still have the writing in me, I just tend to avoid the evil and intimidating ch5 and focus on projects with a lower workload. Ahahaha.

That said. 6k of those words have been within the past week, so I'm definitely getting in gear and trying to lock in for real this time. Once I finish my WIPs and the planned alternate endings for ch4, I won't really have anything else to do (And I hope people will beat me with hockey sticks or sumn if I keep using lil bullshit projects to avoid the main one) and will be forced to focus. I heard a peak Horse Race Test fansong and I've been rotating an animatic for it in my mind constantly so that helps a lot!!!

Since I'm such a scattered person, it sucks that I don't really work thru this with anyone, Like, I'm bothering one of my friends to read it but it's going very very slowly cus I've been in smoothie hell,, so it's just dinking around in my brain like a windows screensaver and it leads to genuine worry on my part as to whether this stuff is actually good or if my pride has just gotten too great from the generally positive reception of the last one. Working slowly can also be attributed to the ludicrous amount of editing. Which makes things better! But. Rehashing old content in a better way is not creating new content. AND. I'm close to finishing the daily life. I just have to rewrite a bit for this new idea that tackled to the wall and beat me up and stole my lunch money

So what I think I may do is this. I'll write according to my plans and try and finish up the daily life with my renewed HRT vigor. I'll feel it out within the next month, see where I end up with that. And I will start posting weekly once the end is in sight! Of course, during the weekly posting I will still be trying to write. But I may need to do another hiatus between the daily and deadly lives. That remains to be seen!

Sorry to be so uncertain about it,, I want to try and take time to make this. Good. People are counting on me to make it good! I'm trying I swear!!
