Ang Lihim ng Lumang Tulay // Wayne Cura
The Philippines has gone through a lot from the past until the present. Foreigners kept on seizing our land for the hidden and wonderful treasure it has. They are alien to the countrymen but they are the ones who are on top of the people who has the rights to this land. But Filipinos aren't known for being cowards and slaves, they got fire on their hearts, they mold themselves to their strong versions just to pave their way on top again. Based from the video presented in our class, Spaniards treated Filipinos like slaves. Forcing them to work on building the bridges for every barangays, it is said in the video that the Filipinos were never credited in their works but they stealthily carved marks under the bridges as a sign or message to everyone of their hardships. Or maybe the marks under it are actually secret messages by the revolutionary men, like hidden meanings carved on the bricks. It is sensational because you could see how the beautiful bridges have gone through a lot and it is really important to preserve them because it belongs to our history. People should take care of it even if it's really old, because these bricked bridges are proof of our countrymen's hardworks and sacrifices.

Our current generation is known for being too glued in our phones or computers. Wasting our time with updating or scrolling through our social media accounts. But little did we know that we are actually being monitored. Content moderators actually exists in our world. Basically, they are one of the people who decides if a post is ignored, deleted, or some other things, based on Facebook's contet policy. Based on the video presented to the class, they have seen anything from ISIS beheading videos, terrible gore, child pornography, dank memes, hundreds of dick pics, and more. But they can't flat out talk about facebooks policy as they will sue their ass, i find it interesting though. It's like diving in to the deep or dark web and I'd like to experience it harmlessly. I don't actually wanna see bad stuff but I want to know about the dark stuff. Imagine what you can possibly learn from the contents you see everyday. The information you get and you might actually use it for yourself or save many lives. But I still pity people who were actually working as content moderators. They are treated badly without mental help, their bosses should make a difference about this because their job ain't just a joke. And people should actually think before you click, the internet is good and bad for an individual so we should be responsible with what we post or share. Because we may not know what and who we can influence about it.

Ang Unang Reyna // Wayne Cura
Women are always recognized as a housewife or low-status worker through the years. They're only known as humans who can't stand or fight on their own and will always need a strong man's helping hand. Gender roles has been a thing ever since I was little in my own home. I never agreed to my family's traditional idea of how men and women should be in the eyes of the majority. I always had the guts to stand up for what is right. So i do believe that women's rights should not be silenced because we are not peasants for the satisfaction of men only. I'm happy to see that nowadays the case of equality for men and women has been emphasized to the society. This movement will never happen if it wasn't for our powerful female ancestors who fought their way up against toxic masculinity and discrimination towards women. Villanueva Pura was introduced in the video presented in our class as the first known Carnival Queen (like the Binibining Pilipinas in the present time). She used her platform to raise awareness about women's rights especially on voting for elections. She used her power to influence other Filipinas to stand for themselves, because of this she helped girls mold into strong independent women up until now. I admire her and the other brave Filipinas' intelligence and courage, just like them I want to influence other people and make a change too. I hope this spirit or fire they brought to life will never fade.

We lived in a modern time that everything we do has a connect to technology. Doing our homeworks, creating some files and also in the used of technology we can manage our home in a right way. In short because of our modern technology we do all things easily, making our life more easy.
Having a high technology is easy, sometimes wonderful because we learn different things by the help of technology. Being a part of a modern era, we tend to join those new media, to experience new things “at makiuso” it is because to gain some popularity and due to top trends on social media. But do we know who are the persons behind those screen? What are their part? Is it safe to used all those trends, all the new contents that sometimes made us happy. We use social media without thinking, we let ourselves to be happy and satisfied even in a wrong way, we didn’t even think about the persons behind those media. Those person loose themselves just to guard and maintain the good online reputation.
Lets face it that now we have a harsh and cruel world. Not all we see is true, sometimes some of them are just filtered.

Digital media is very powerful. It serves as a bridge which allows people to convey their ideas and communicate with others through the use of web pages, photography, video, music, etc. Everyone is free to express their ideas using these platforms but with all of these ideas and contents, are we still safe? BBC conducted a documentary revealing the “content moderators” of media here in the Philippines. They are the people who are responsible in filtering which post, which content should remain or be deleted. Their job isn’t easy. They are told as their job, to view and filter contents which are not suitable for other people. Imagine, they need to filter 25,000 videos and images each day. Due to limited training and inadequate psychological support, content moderators suffer from mental diseases and in worst cases, leads to suicide. This job isn’t easy, filtering a normal morning selfie to a pornographic photo. They deserve enough salary. Internet isn’t safe anymore. We must be thankful for these content moderators for they try their best to keep the internet clean. We must be aware that they exist.

Digital media became one of the main outlets for people to voice out their opinions, share their experiences, and post their outlooks and insights. Everyone has the privilege of free expression in using these platforms. With millions of people posting different things, aren't we exposed to inappropriate content? A BBC documentary reveals a secret team of content moderators who clean the internet. Their job is to basically sort contents that could stay online and those which needs to be deleted. A single employee is expected to segregate 25,000 images and videos each day. These may range from a typical summer vacation post to a post of cruelty. Without proper emotional support, these may lead to depression and anxiety. The internet isn't as safe as we thought. The platform that should be for interacting with other people turns to be a platform of harassment, abuse, bullying, pornography, and cyber crimes. We all should be cautious because everyone could be a victim.

Media improves as the day passed by. We are living in the modern era that everything can be used easily. By the means of the new technology, we can work with things as easy as it can be. Due to the top trends and popularity, we tend to engage with the new sets of media that let us experience new things. But as we all know, is it safe to be satisfied? Is it safe to see new things and contents that we sometimes make fun or become sad because of them? Are they filtered? The answers was just in front of you. It is how you use the media without thinking about the people behind it or even who will gonna your content. We let ourselves become satisfied without even thinking about the impact of these to others especially those who’s working under you. They are being left behind. They gain something but they lose themselves. We, the people living in this 21st century must aware and learn about what should we gonna do. We really don’t know the risk but we automatically understand that it is not good. If you made a mistake, you cannot remove it, you cannot erase it to those who have seen your wrongs. Filter before you dispose.

Kara David discovered old hidden bridges and she also discover the story behind those bridges. So we should preserved and treasured those bridges.

Kara David ventured to find century-old bridges that were used by the Spaniards to cross cities in the documentary entitled "Ang Lihim ng Lumang Tulay". The bridges she discovered were beautifully built. However, the story behind the construction of these bridges aren't as beautiful. Within the 333 years of colonization, the Filipinos, also reffered as 'indios', were enslaved by the Spanish people. Our ancestors were forced to do labor without pay. Something worse will happen if they resist. The Spaniards needed the Filipinos to build what they imagine; to build what they needed. Sadly, the credit isn't given to where credit is due. The colonizer who didn't even lift a single stone is the name that is remembered and is written on textbooks. While those who suffered for the construction of these bridges are now forgotten. These pieces of architecture should be preserved and treasured in honor of those who built it. Afterall, these aren't just ordinary bridges that links a city from another but rather bridges that connects the Philippines' past to its present.

Time flies so fast. It was like yesterday when Philippines was first called “Perlas ng Silanganan”. The country’s beauty is something that any form of colonization can’t hide. “Ang Lihim ng Lumang Tulay”, a documentary of Kara David showed us the hidden bridges in the Philippines which were made in the past when we were colonized. It was mentioned there the Puente del Capricho. It was thought to be weak and dangerous but as we can see, it is standing still, even when typhoons and earthquake come. It is also called as “pigi” because Filipinos were forced to work and they were beaten using “pigi” if they won’t work. This scenario shows how they treat Filipinos lowly. They were treated like slaves. Bridges serves not only as a road to your next destination but also as a way of bringing the past to the present time. Bridges serves as a book of history. Every stone and part of it has its own story. These bridges shows the might and creativity of our forefathers. If we only know how to preserve and give importance to it, just like Filipinos, bridges will remain standing despite of many challenges that may come.

Ang tulay ng nakaraan As we all know, bridges are only made to let people across one side to another. “A structure carrying a pathway or roadway over a depression or obstacle. “-Merriam Webster.

Beauty queens are often viewed as standards for beauty and elegance. Almost every little girl dreams of becoming a beauty queen someday. We are always excited to be mesmerized by beauties from all over the world. However, it is important to point out that the world of pageantry is not just about the glitz and glamor. Many people don’t really understand what it takes to be a “real” beauty queen. “Ang Unang Reyna” an i-witness documentary led by Howie Severino presented the beginning and development of Philippine pageantry. The main character in the documentary happened to be Purificacion Garcia Villanueva (Pura Villanueva) of Arevalo, Iloilo City. At the age of 22, she was crowned as the very first “Queen of the Manila Carnival” back in 1908. But what makes a woman a real beauty queen? The true essence of being a beauty queen is not just about being beautiful but also having a good heart. Pura here is a writer and responsible for several books that ranged in subjects from cooking, women’s cooperative, etc. The country's first beauty queen was a feminist pioneer who led the campaign for women's suffrage which is the right to vote in political elections in the Philippines. For many Filipinos, beauty pageants are really important but we often encounter some misconceptions about beauty queens. We should always see the most important role of a beauty queen, to have the potential to be a societal game changer.

Beauty contests aren’t held to find girls with the most beautiful faces but rather to find women with precious hearts; to find women who are willing to step-up and be an advocate for change.
An I-witness documentary entitled “Ang Unang Reyna” created by Howie Severino showed how the Philippine pageantry started and blossomed. From the Manila Carnival to Miss Universe, it is undeniable that these contests made a huge impact to the Filipino community to the point where each barangay, town, or municipality held a pageant at least once every year.
But what really makes a typical Filipina a “QUEEN”?
Pura Villanueva, the first Philippine Queen, proved that being a queen isn’t about wearing the nicest dresses or behaving like a “true lady” but being able to break stereotypes and fight for women. These what makes up a true Filipina queen – a beautiful face and an equally beautiful heart.

All the girls living today dreams to be a popular beauty queen someday. As we all know, they are all beauty with brains queens but they went through a lot of things before they reached that. Cura Villanueva is a half-Filipino girl ang kauna-unahang Miss Philippines who fought for the right of the womens in the Philippines. We should value all the things the ipinaglaban sa atin ni Cura.

Back in the days where we were still todlers, we've always asked God to let our grandparents to live up to their 100th birthday. Because we wanted to make them happy and proud just like how they look up to us as their greatest blessing in their lives. But I guess flexing in your 100th birthday isn't that fun like what we sometimes pictured it to ne. You'll eventually get tired of being old in this never ending development of the world, just like those centenarian women in the documentary shown to our class last Thursday. It depicher the struggles and lifestyle of being a centenarian in a local barangay of the North. Watching it made me remember how much I wanted my lolo to live until I can pay for his beef wanton in our favorite fastfood chain. Unfortunaltely he had to leave at the age of 84 when I was still in 9th grade. He left his loved ones especially his wife in this cruel world. Back in the present time, I'm living with my lola, his beloved wife, and once again asking God to give her more time to stay with us until I can give jer what she deserves in life for being such an amazing woman and return her love and care that she gave to me and my brother ever since we were still in our mother's womb. But watching the documentary made me realize that you cant direct someone's life by your own desires. The centenarians on that clip either were proud or not of their age, wants to live alone, be happy with her whole family, or to die already. It made me realize that being that old isn't that easy, laying on your bed not having the strength to get up on your own and just waiting for death to come is too painful. Seeing my 80 year old lola and my late 48 year old mother struggle to walk on their own is already painful to see for me. What more could it be when they reached the hundredth age? Sometimes you'll just have to be thankful that the pain of your loved one is over when they actually get their eternal peace already. So even if it's a knife in my heart letting go of my mother back then, I was still relieved that finally she can rest already. The main point i'm trying to say is you don't have to wait for your loved ones to be a centenarian before you can appreciate and make them feel really special. We never know when will the time come where they will be taken away from us so it's important to make out the best out of the alloted time given to you. Enjoy every moment that you are blessed to have with them while they're still strong and inspired enough to enjoy it with you.

Life is the most precious gift of God to us. Some are given a chance to enjoy it for a long time and some are not. The old age is an integral part of human life. It is the evening of life. It is unavoidable, unwelcomed and problem ridden phase of life. It is so ironic because of our desire to lolive a long life but we do not want to get old. With this documentary, they interviewed numbers of people who reached the age of 100. It is very rare nowadays to reach this age because of health problems and others. I got disappointed with the story of the first grandmother. They left her after all she has done. Isn’t it so unfair for her? I think that we should take care of our parents, no matter what the consequences. They have done so much for us. We should take care of them when they are weak, old and need our support. Everybody needs some affection. Caring should not only be due to humanity however it should come from our heart. After all, we are all bound to complete the cycle of life and face the old age, we’d all want someone to care for us. Let us enjoy the remaining time in our lives for we do not know when our time will end.
