so far I've only seen the "haha jun wu was so funny putting fengqing in charge of the same domain" take and yes it is objectively a hilarious thing for him to have done but has anyone considered he did that hoping they'd fail? i mean look at yin yu and quan yizhen. being in charge of the same domain didn't work out so well for them. I'm betting jun wu was hoping something equally devastating would befall fengqing so that when xie lian eventually ascended again he'd be without his old friends and all alone. put the two known for hating each other together and let them fight over the south and surely they'll end up destroying each other right? well jokes on jun wu fengqing are the worst kind of codependant and they ain't going anywhere

Can’t believe I haven’t mentioned this before but I have big big feelings about women and mothers within the Legendborn cycle.

Every woman that The Order touches is hit by some sort of tragedy. It’s part of the point. They’re not Supposed to be there, let alone in power.

“Nick’s mother, Sel’s, mine. How many mothers has the Order taken?”

Even Cestra as a Regent is outnumbered as one out of three. If you count the Seneschals it’s one out of 6. She is the token woman in a historically male power system. So historically male that any woman that rose to power in the earlier ages was killed.

The Order of the Rose exists to let women still pretend they have a hand in anything. But even then, they’re there to support chapter events rather than actually have a piece of anything worth something.

All of the trio’s mothers interfered, and they all paid for it. You can say this is just what The Order does to people who threaten their system, but even if you look at Martin - I genuinely think some action would have been taken against him for letting someone take his child without him noticing, if he were the mother.

I seriously doubt the council of regents actually believed Natasia opened the gates. She was absolutely just an easy scapegoat to cover up the actions of the scion of Arthur as a woman and a Merlin. Can’t even get into the way that The Order treats Merlins right now.

This is really long but. I hope the women of the Legendborn series all have some part in tearing shit down. They deserve it

Ok, I didn't want to address this because it seems petty but I've noticed that people have a lot of smoke for the least likely but most loved ship of the series and most of the vitriol is coming from the most coded ship. It's not all of y'all but it's enough for me to address it.

Before I get into it 2 things:

This is Bree's story first and foremost and Tracy Deonn said in regard to any question regarding shipping, she'll do what's best for Bree, not any of her 2 white love interests. They're not the main story.

Now, I ship Bree with anyone who would serve her growth more. I like Bree with Nick, I like Bree with Sel. I'll understand but be kinda sad if she ends up with neither. That being said this is about my last favorite ship, the OT3.

I've seen so many of y'all shit on this ship like it came into your house and stole something from you personally and I can't understand why.

Instead of me railing against either ship to prove my point, I'll just tell people why I like OT3 because there's already enough of the weird ship vitriol that I hate that comes with this type of story.

My love for OT3 starts with this statement from Bree:

"As I watch them connect, I realize that the feeling Sel offered me, the feeling he knew I wanted, is here. It’s between both of them, and between us all. Safety grows warm in my chest, expanding to some other emotion, twisting into something painful and beautiful at the same time."

That's it. In a world that's already been hostile to Bree and to our two deuteragonists, the one time they all feel safe is when they're all together.

Not only does Bree feel safe with Nick but Sel, before bloodwalking, says he sometimes feels "safer and more whole" with Nick. You have three traumatized teens that manage to find safety in an unsafe world. They're all facing trauma. So yes my comfort ship is a more whole version of all of them.

But what about Nick and Sel? What about them? They're both equally victims of the order's bullshit and dealing with their trauma in different ways. When the time comes to it, they both step up and protect Bree with their lives.

Nick and Sel haven't actually seen each other more than in passing for like 2 years before the start of Legendborn. This is almost like a relationship reset with history for the both of them. Not only do the characters say it but Tracy implied in her tweet that Bree changes their relationship dynamic.

None of us know how book 3 is going to go but it's heavily hinted at one relationship being endgame. I don't understand how those shippers have time to shit on any other ship. OT3 makes sense for me for several reasons and that's fine. Let me enjoy that without a think piece of why it can't be canon. I've read each book at least 5 times in the last few months. I didn't ship this shit blindly, I'm not doing it to be contrary, I genuinely like the interactions between the three characters.

We look at each other for a long moment, then to Sel, and back to each other. When he finally speaks, Nick’s voice is warm enough to wrap the three of us together, a bond of its own. “Then the world would be broken in more ways than one.”
