Ten years had been a long time, at least for Milo. For some people, things didn’t change. Milo however had learned a lot in the past and this past ten years had been good to him. Although he was not completely sold on his future. Things could change. Milo stepped into the pub. Why not? He thought. He had been in the pub before-- when he lived in the town. “I’ll drink to that. Next round’s on me,” he laughed.
Tumblr media
“Fuck—” That was the only word that seemed appropriate of the affect ten years had had on her old work place and once favorite watering hole. Ten years did little to change her tendency to swear. The fury nodded over at her old manager, they’d never really spoken much but the unspoken nature of their friendship was something she appreciated. He didn’t tell her much she’d cost them in damages and she kept the riffraff out. She sat herself at the bar and ordered properly for the first ever time in her history with the Anti-Hero. “Well I don’t know about you, but I’m staying here all fucking night.”

Every so often, Milo felt the need to visit his roots. Barton Hollow. Or even more specifically, Barton Comics. His uncled enjoyed his visits, but Milo was older now. He was more mature. Half expecting to see the old crew, he walked into the store and heard a familiar voice. Milo smiled. “Some things have changed,” he laughed. “Want a copy?” Milo asked Spencer, pointing to the shelf of his comics. “I’ll even sign it for you.”
Tumblr media
Spencer had only been back a short period of time and she still knew every route to take to get to where she needed to be. The first place she found herself at was Barton Comics, and oh how she missed the place. She remembered every inch inch of it, but of course ten years made a big difference. Half of her was expecting to see Milo there. Taking in a deep breath, she looked around at the shop. “Nothing has changed.” She said to herself with a smile.

Although Milo did not have good luck with school the first time around, he eventually enrolled at BHU and went back to school. He graduated after three years with a double major in Business Management and Art.
For two years after he graduated, he worked in his uncle’s shop, working no his own comic book and managing the store.
Upon the eve of his twenty sixth birthday, he told his uncle he had bought space up in New York to run his own comic book store.
Business was slow to start, but Milo never gave up. After years and years of experience, Milo knew that it would only be so long before his business was up and running.
When Kira graduated from college, he offered her a room in his small apartment which was up above his shop and she agreed. He and Kira lived like they had back in Barton Hollow.
Milo continued his life of being a “real” superhero. Meeting up with more of his online friends, they continued to fight crime in New York.
While owning the shop he managed to jump start his career in comics. He worked for three years with another artist on a comic series called Fortune, which was quite a success. Although Milo was waiting for the chance to submit his own ideas.
To his surprise, Milo’s comic was picked up by Marvel two years ago. The fandom is growing quite large and he only has himself and his team of trusted superheros to thank.
Rumors have said that the movie rights have been picked up by Sony, but nothing has been confirmed or denied by Milo Katz yet.

Milo knew that most people didn’t know about the shop. That’s why he spent a lot of time advertising it on BHU campus more than anywhere else. Most people didn’t even know the shop existed. “Great! I mean you don’t have to buy anything of course, but yeah, it’s there if you do.”
Tumblr media
“Nice,” Camilla said, grinning. She hadn’t seen a comic book shop since she’d been in the city a few years ago, and she’d thought they’d mostly died out. “I’d love to see it sometime, actually.”

If Milo had a dollar for every time he actually fell, he’d probably be a millionaire. Falling was sort of his thing. “Oh, no, don’t worry about it. I’m alright. Normally, I actually do worse. So at least this time it wasn’t that bad.” He laughed a bit, “I wouldn’t be surprised if you were tougher than you look!”
Tumblr media
Evangeline bit her lip, deliberating for a moment. “I mean, it was definitely amusing, but I do feel kinda shit for laughing at you,” she admitted, stuffing her hands into the pockets of her jeans. “I’m probably really fragile compared to you - I can barely handle a stubbed toe, which says a lot about my strength.”

Reading had been a big part of Milo’s life. He loved a good story. Of course, comics were his thing, but reading was still important to him. With a smile on his face, he nodded. “I actually own-- well sort of-- the comic book shop. Technically it’s my uncle’s shop, but he’s rarely here, so it’s basically mine!” Milo smiled.
Tumblr media
Camilla raised her eyebrows thoughtfully, shrugging a bit. “I never read any comic books when I was a kid, but I was into the movies—I’m a Spiderman girl, myself. Still rewatch them from time to time, even the remakes,” she told him.

Milo smiled, almost happy that he’d made someone else laugh. Someone that wasn’t Kira... or Spencer. Either way, he loved making people laugh. “Vet studies! Wow. That’s great! Are you planning on sticking around after, or leaving the area?” Milo loved getting to know people. “It’s really pretty fun. My friends are normally there so we spend our time looking for and talking to different people from the movies that we all liked. Or in the panels which are fun. It’s probably one of the best things I’ve ever gone to. New York is not as fun, but it’s still really awesome. They normally have really great guests.” Milo smiled, nodding at Rowan’s comment. “Of course.”
“That’s pretty cool,” he nodded. “PC gaming is weird, to be completely honest. I think there’s only a few games that are really worth playing. Honestly, the older games are the best games. At least they have some sort of point. A lot of the new games are almost mindless. Like they want us to turn into zombies.” Milo laughed at his own statement. “I think that learning a new operating system takes time, but I’m always willing.”
Tumblr media
A jerked laugh came from him—he didn’t knowwhy he found Milo’s comment so amusing. “Yeah, I’m a junior, but I’m in vet studies so I’m sticking around for another few years… I’m a full-time student.” Rowan paused, not expecting Milo to offer going with him to Comic Con or anything so soon. “Wow… well, that’s like—,” it didn’t sit right with him. Cities always made him sick, and the mild nausea that would hang over him the entire time he was surrounded by people sounded torturous. “I’ll have to check my schedule,” he said in a hurried voice “But yeah, I mean, sure—I’ll think about it.”
“I was born here, actually,” he informed Milo with a small smile “Moved to Arizona when I was real young and now I’m back for school.” He nodded “All I know is like, The Sims are on Mac, and I haven’t ever played that… there was also Spore but I heard that wasn’t a good game when it came out, so I never played it.” His gaze followed along the wall where posters for game tournaments and retro video game posters were displayed proudly “I’d get a PC, but I’ve always been worried about like, learning a new operating system.”

Milo often wondered if he bothered people when he was in public, but he didn’t care. He was outside, even though he was outside of a coffee shop-- it was still well, outside. He didn’t feel like he needed to control his outburst. “Wha--” he furrowed his brows together. “I apologize, but-- uh, we are outside.”
Tumblr media
The outburst was to put it honestly and relate-ably— unexpected, and if it wasn’t for the firm grip Fleur had on her cup then hot tea would have dumped straight into her lap, ruining her new stockings. Her head shot back and her eyes narrowed in a nasty glare that was directed the the blonde sitting behind her. No matter how unexpected his surprise was, her peace was to not be tampered with on a bad day. “Do I need to rip out your vocal cords or are you going to be quiet now?” She hissed, tapping her freshly sharpened and painted, blood red nails against the porcelain tea cup as a warning.

Milo normally didn’t get into that many television shows. He’d actually learned to say away from television as much as possible because everything was complete crap. But this show... this show was really amazing. He didn’t know what it was about the show that kept him completely enthralled by it, but there was something almost addicting about it. Milo really couldn’t stop. He knew this was quickly becoming his favorite show. MIlo barely noticed when the barista came over to speak to him.
“Huh?” he asked, tilting his head to the side. “Oh... um,” he realized what she was asking. “Well, I think another cup of coffee would be good,” he nodded. “Don’t cut me off! I’m almost finished with this episode and then I swear I’ll stop. Maybe do something less... I don’t know terrible.” It was his day off, so part of him wanted to catch up and part of him knew that he could be reading comics.

Another day, another double. It wasn’t like Charlotte needed the money; her parents financially supported her and paid for her apartment. She’d gotten a full-ride scholarship to BHU, courtesy of being the Salutatorian of her class, so all academic expenses were taken care of. Any money she made at The Mystic Café accumulated in her bank account, saved for her sporadic splurging urges. The only reason she really worked was because of the distraction her job provided. The demand to incessantly mingle, take orders, and refill drinks for the caffeine addicts of Barton Hollow kept her busy; however, on slow nights like this and with nothing much to do, all Charlie could do was think. Her doctor had prescribed her something for the anxiety and something for the insomnia, but to no avail, she began selling it to her classmates and friends. Charlotte picked imaginary lint from her cardigan, and jolted at the vocal dissent of a customer, who’d made himself conformable at The Mystic for over six hours. Even from across the room, she could see his eyes were bloodshot; he probably hadn’t blinked for a few hours, and was probably on his third or fourth cup of coffee. Charlotte stepped out from behind the bar and treaded towards the blonde-haired boy. “Can I get you a refill? Scone? Kind of debating on whether or not I should cut you off—sounds like the caffeine’s getting to you.” She slipped into the empty seat across from him.

“Er, I wasn’t paying attention to where I was?” he questioned his own reason. “I’m sorry for disturbing you, ma’am.”
Tumblr media
She nodded slowly as her lips curled into a firm line of incredulity. “Any particular reason you’ve decided to read comics in my shop?”

Laughing at people’s faults was something that Milo never did, although he did not ever care if he was the butt of the joke. He smiled. “Thanks. And you’re fine, really. I don’t care. I’m sure it was rather funny.” Milo smiled. “Of course I’m okay. I’ve broken enough bones to know that an almost fall is nothing.”
Tumblr media
After a moment of giggling, the more humane side of Evangeline slipped through, causing the brunette to wonder if he was embarrassed or not. Smiling sheepishly, she said, “Sorry for laughing at you,” with a wide grin, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “You’re okay there, right?”

Oddly enough, Milo didn’t normally read. He just liked doing something. Reading comics was actually more his style, but sometimes a good old science fiction book just hit the right spot. With all the research he’d been doing on the new comics that Marvel was doing, he needed the break. “I actually don’t really like reading that much. I mean, comic books, but not real books.”
Tumblr media
Camilla caught her breath after a few more seconds of laughter. She  wanted to know what he was reading, but she didn’t want to be cliché and ask. She always had a habit of asking questions people didn’t want to answer, anyway. ”I don’t think I’ve seen another human being as attached to their book as you are,” she commented, running her fingers though her hair.

Milo grinned. He didn’t always recover, but sometime he did and it always felt amazing when he did recover from almost falling. The boy nodded. “Of course! I’m actually really never that good at recovering.” He laughed. Milo had always loved Philip K Dick. He was one of Milo’s favorite authors. “He’s actually a favorite of mine, though this book has always slipped my mind, and it’s one of his more famous books. He’s a great writer. I recommend any book by him, including this one.”
Tumblr media
Peter shrugged, smile still wide. “But you recovered, that’s all that matters.” He felt his neck creak a little as he tiled his head to the side, catching a glimpse of the cover and the title, before darting back up to meet Milo’s gaze again. “Do Androids Dream? Huh, I’ve heard it’s a really good read, though I don’t always take ‘reviews’ seriously— what do you think of it? Any good?”

He stared down at his computer screen, his jaw dropped. "Holy crap! I was not expecting that." He watched the main character of the show fall to the ground. Milo was louder than he thought he was being-- the headphones didn't help. One of his friends online suggest that he watch Hannibal, so he decided to give it a try. He'd been watching the last season non-stop without a break in the Mystic for the past six hours and now he was finally on the season finale and completely shocked, hoping that he wouldn't have to wait long for season three.

There was never a day when Milo didn't trip over anything, unless he didn't leave from in front of his laptop-- which happened sometime. But he normally tripped over at least one thing a day if not more. He was thankful that she had come to his rescue, but he shook his head. "I'm perfectly fine!" he explained to her, with a smile on his face. "Don't worry, this happens a lot. I'm used to it." He smiled up at her. "Thanks for the offer though."

Ariel was making her way to the mystic when she saw this and quickly rushed to his aid “Are you okay?” she asked as she pushed her hair back attempting to make herself feel less anxious, less worried. She wondered how much longer she had until her hair turned white. Yes, she was young but she couldn’t help but thinking it would be soon. In any case she didn’t particularly mind, there was something so beautiful about this in Ariel’s eyes and she always envisioned her mother with grey hair. Perhaps for her it meant wisdom, she never managed to put her finger on it. “Do you need any help?” she found herself kneeling out of impulse, feeling useless by just standing up.
