Quote
Oscar Wilde said that if you know what you want to be, then you inevitably become it - that is your punishment, but if you never know, then you can be anything. There is a truth to that. We are not nouns, we are verbs. I am not a thing - an actor, a writer - I am a person who does things - I write, I act - and I never know what I am going to do next. I think you can be imprisoned if you think of yourself as a noun.

Understanding what I do
Why Colby? from Colby College on Vimeo.
This is the last video I did for my college. I've used the word 'propaganda' for it in the form of a joke many times. I suppose I would do more justice to myself and the people that devoted time to it if I call it a marketing product.
Working on this made me consider who I am as a filmmaker and what is my role as a beginner in this realm. Until when I will have to do these types of works? I certainly enjoy doing them and I enjoy more working on them with the people that make me improve every day (my teamwork is simply amazing); however, I know this is not what I see myself doing in my life. For now, I enjoy this little video and what it can do to the prospect students of Colby College. But I know I'm also very interested on doing things like this collaborative documentary:
Colby Unveiled (Bicentennial: A Documentary Film) from Milton Guillén on Vimeo.

My obsession with symmetry and "accuracy" forces me to adventure in unexplored experiments with light, error, and composition. The more I work on my craft, the more I realize what I'm looking for includes quite the opposite of my tastes and preferences. Quite a paradox, indeed. A beautiful one which foreshadows decades of trial and error.
In art, I insist, everything is deliberate. For photography both an undesired chemical falling in your picture or an unwished slip of your mouse in photoshop can give you what you were looking for. Inspiration has to find you working, someone very wise said. I keep on working.

Cosmic Energy at the Rhythm of the Stars
If we redefine our perception of life, we understand that we are the result of disorder and the beautiful collisions of galaxies attracting themselves toward their own destruction. This collision, seen from anywhere in space, is like an euphoric dance: cosmic energy at the rhythm of the stars. After billions of years, these collisions made our existence possible and it's something I believe we should be utterly thankful for.
Regardless if it's chance or if it's fate, what we know is that we cannot do anything about yesterday or tomorrow and that the entire universe exists only today. This morning, like atoms in their more instinctive infinite behaviour, I feel particularly happy and thankful because I know that we are unique in this vast existence of radiation and space. Because my eyes have evolved enough so I can perceive in a specific frequency that allows me to see colours and nature in a certain way. Because my understanding of love, an ideal feeling put in motion by the subjective energies of human consciousness, allow me to express through music and ultimately transgress this physical instrument to say with my body what I feel.
This morning I just want to say I'm happy and that I'm glad I can see the light and I can experience life with other beings in this planet. Let the odds be in our favor for the rest of our lives, because it's certainly not a matter of luck, but of sheer attitude.
Good morning. Have a beautiful day.

A magnificent piece of art with the subtlety of few artists. The dilution of reality and fiction becomes utterly irrelevant for the conjunction of these images and sound. Please enjoy the next 12 minutes of Ashes and Snow by Gregory Colbert.

Science and Human Consciousness flirt goes on...
This is a truly well done film in terms of the photography and pace of it. I'm really glad people in science are doing these stuffs.
the film, controversial enough, proposes that humans and the environment that surrounds them is more interconnected than what we normally believe. Perception, of course, is a tricky thing, interesting enough to makes us question something like our own idea of unity and universe.
I personally agree that "by psychologically labeling the self as internal and the environment as external, we constrain our own neurochemical processes and experience a deluded disconnection" with what we can call reality. The importance to distort the boundaries of conventional understandings of the universe transgresses metaphorical constructions of God and spirituality and takes us to a new level of understanding where human awareness can expand.
For the same reasons we have to keep on critically asking with both sides of our brains what is real and what is not and decide for ourselves if the question is valid or not. We have to keep on making our decisions as the arrow of time pushes us towards another instant and it's up to us to make the "best" decision possible for ourselves and the others.
Anyways, love's everywhere. If you want to see it there.
"There is no such thing as free choice while being emotionally attached to a belief system. The moment we are self-aware enough to realize this, we can truly work together to figure out the real odds of what will benefit us the most."
