(also you just made me realise that c.72 scene is such a good callback to the screenshot you replied with. erejean have a fight, but this time mikasa doesn’t step in, they sit on the same steps and talk about how they’re finally able to do what they joined the scouts for, reclaiming their home. armin talks about their dream to see the ocean just as eren once did to the whole of the cadets. but like you said before it’s eren trying to dissuade them from being scouts and it concludes with eren saying everyone’s strength is necessary for the mission!)

I don't recall if Eren angry blushes in the childhood scenes, but I'll add it if I find it! I suppose I wasn't counting them because I was thinking of moments that were more prompted by others.

i def agree w you if that’s the case, he’s not the type to get flustered “because” of someone and blush happily like historia / armin / mikasa do ( but he DOES blush bc of armin’s lightheaded teasing & smile in c.72 ) it’s mostly prompted by himself, i.e feeling embarassed bc he’s being stupidly soft and forward or as a response when he’s feeling humiliated that gets him blushy lol. even in that first screenshot of him wrapping a scarf i think it’s out of embarrassment from doing something soft!

So, Eren didn't blush when prompting Mikasa to confess because he wasn't being vulnerable in that moment.

oh sorry for being unclear but i was talking about c.50’s scarf scene! i think this fit his usual pattern, bc he’s also being incredibly vulnerable in that scene (confessing his weaknesses, promising her protection / warmth forever) and he’s about to be kissed by mikasa of all people, plus it’s a “redo” of the og scarf scene.

Eren was holding his cards to his chest and prompting Mikasa to confess and expose her feelings instead instead. It was a rather cowardly move on his end, but I can't dismiss the amount of strength it took to ask her at all.

ahh interesting thoughts! imo, i don’t think he was looking for a romantic confession, his thoughts throughout 130-131 were all about being haunted / disgusted by the weight of what he’s about to do whilst simultaneously taking on the mindset needed to do rumbling in the first place, he isn’t in the headspace for romance at all (at the time of the question he’s just had a mental breakdown in front of one of his future victims) he’s looking for respite, which he’s trying to get by desperately looking for anything that deviated from his memories as proof that the future would change*.

(*hence why his response to the interruption is “right on time”, since he’s seen this play out before!)

he takes a passive approach to “testing” his memories, because despite having only a few select memories (he doesn’t actually know everything pre paths!) he still chooses to do things exactly as he sees (= the future is the way it is because he’s making the same choices as his memories i.e. he coordinates with yelena / floch before going to marley, he asks the same question as his memories knowing mikasa’s response and he saves ramzi, grows out his hair etc):

because he isn’t strong enough deep down to resist the promise of freedom (“that scenery”)- everything is the way it is because he wanted it so. it’s just simply his nature to seek freedom and fight injustice / oppressors that prey on the weak, thus he cannot stop himself from saving ramzi despite knowing he kills him in the future.

but he knows what he wants is monstrous, hence he’s relying on outside forces to change and show him that things aren’t set in stone, such as mikasa responding differently to the same question he asked in his memories. so imo him not blushing isn’t really to do with him being withholding with his feelings to try and get her to confess (if that was the case he would ask a different question since he knew from his memories this question would give a “platonic” response furthermore- her blush is answer enough!), but moreso because he’s just trying to desperately check his memories. but i can def see your perspective & it’s probably more valid than mine!

i agree that the question itself is quite vulnerable and unsure in a way he’s never, (since she’s given him no reason to doubt her being by his side) hence mikasa’s own overwhelmed blushy response to it.

thinking about the Armin blushing post I recently made (+Mikasa) - Eren only blushes three times in the series, right? 1) When he first wraps his scarf around Mikasa, 2) When he tells his friends he cares for them, and 3) When he's drunk. Am I missing any?

There’s a little rat inside your head.

This rat doesn’t know anything, but it knows that sometimes snacks fall into its cage, and sometimes the floor shocks its feet.  It likes the snacks, and it hates the shocks.  It will tell you to do things that produce snacks, and it will tell you not to do things that produce shocks.

This little rat is not the only power inside your head, and it might not be the strongest, but it’s there and it has influence.

So pay attention to how you’re treating the little rat.

If every time you learn something new, you say to yourself “ugh, I’m so ignorant for not already knowing this,” you’re shocking the rat.  You’re teaching it to be afraid of learning new things, to associate it with embarrassment and self-criticism.

Remember to feed the rat instead.  Tell it “now I know, and that is good,” and let it eat its snack in peace.

If every time you take care of yourself and your home, you say to yourself “ugh, I never do this enough, and I’ll never get it right,” you’re shocking the rat.  You’re teaching the rat that it was safer when you didn’t try to take care of things.

Feed the rat instead.  Praise what you have done, forgive what you haven’t, so the rat can feel safe.

When the rat takes a step in the right direction, even if the step is too small or slow or not in quite the right direction, feed it.  Don’t shock it for being imperfect; it’ll only learn not to take any steps at all.  Feed it, and let it get bolder, and take bigger steps, and give it bigger rewards for those bigger steps.

Be kind to your little rat.

i love it when characters are codependent. i love it when losing someone feels like losing a limb. i love it when two people "complete" each other so wholly and terribly that one can barely function without the other. i love it when the fear of losing the only person who understands them is so all-consuming they'll destroy anything to stay together, including themselves.

i can’t remember if he blushed the same in the anime but also here:

here’s some other manga blushes, kid eren in particular was super blushy!

it happened whenever he was embarrassed / humiliated or even super (happily) passionate. but when he’s older, he gets really apathetic, basically less pride to feel embarrassed / humiliated. so the blush trigger is…emotional intimacy (weirdly not in the near kiss scene) or when he’s sloshed out of his mind lmfao.
