Earthling Ed

I picked Earthling Ed as a subject for my google doodle because he is a perfect representation and spokesperson for the vegan community. He raises questions about the food choices we make through very welcoming and open minded conversations. He recently founded an 18 acre Sanctuary in England for abused and unwanted animals, called the Surge Sanctuary. And his speech “You Will Never Look at Your Life in the Same Way Again” has 35 million accumulative views online and has been given to thousands of students across UK universities.

For the design I wanted to try and show what he stands for when he is debating. The idea was to have the animals with their children - who are usually taken away from them in the meat industry - happily and safely next to each other. A few things I struggled with was composing so many elements (all the animals and the text) together, and still have it read easily. And then also figuring out the colors since all the animals have their own colors and have that all balance out. I think this doodle can be showcased worldwide, since the issue Ed stands for is a global one.
