ha. he posted this on his public family page like a news announcement. this is so surreal
in other news, my father's alleged nephew emailed me this week letting me know he took a DNA test and can confirm that my father is his uncle. this is monumental and i only wish my father was still alive to finally get the validation he had been seeking his entire life. he never knew if his alleged father was his real father, since his father wanted nothing to do with him. i am so happy for him and i hope that he would have been happy too

#we wrote letters back and forth ever since i found the photo of my dad's father and thought the resemblance was uncanny#g. was very guarded and wasn't sure if he believed my story#he emailed me saying 'the entire story is true. i don't know what to say.'#this morning he added my family to his public family tree#i wish i could talk to my dad and see what he thinks about all of this#his dream was to be surrounded by family. to connect with the family that he never had as an orphan#he had so many people who loved him and cared for hi#but the pain of being rejected by his father's side of the family haunted him his entire life#this entire thing has healed something in me#knowing i did right by him. and fought for the story he always knew was true and his father's family tried to bury#i miss him so much and hope he is happy.

idk if i'm valid for feeling this way but my coworkers seem to be obsessed with details i truly don't give a shit about. they've just sent me a whole doc with the pros and cons of checking people into our room....it is full of just. nonsense. notes like "i worry about patrons seeing our water bottles at the desk and getting upset that they can't have theirs out" like??? we're staff, we can do a lot of things patrons can't . next question. like why is this a fucking document
#either i'm the most normal or the most crazy in my division i can't tell#but they have entire meetings over this shit and it's not even a big deal#i can't help but get super angry every time these conversations are had because it's waste of my time#like HUGE waste of time

just found out my father's half-sister played at Carnegie Hall and now I'm watching her Beethoven concert from 1999 on YouTube. This is insane
having a little quiet freak out moment at work right now because I think I finally found a record of my dad's father. there's even a photo and I refused to believe it but then I sent it to my sister and mom and they were immediately like "that's papa, that looks exactly like papa" feels surreal to stare at what is very likely the face of the man who abandoned your dad as a child. shock!

my grandma, the daughter of two American communist sympathizers who moved to Tashkent from Texas in 1933, as a young pioneer sometime in the early 1940’s. she’s the one in the middle holding the flag
#she was born in Tashkent#my great grandfather was a lead chemist at a poppy factory#he was accused of espionage when his chemical plant didn’t produce the expected quota#the Russians wanted to send him to the gulag but by chance the leading officer calling for his head#was killed himself just a month prior to the date slated for my great grandfather#so he was spared

at my mom’s apartment today and looking through her old photo albums - here’s my grandpa (on my mom’s side) with Alla Pugacheva at a press conference (he was on Moscow radio and the media circuit) and a nice shot of him in Odessa, his original home
#my grandpa died when I was only two years old#but he was a lovely kind person who ended up defecting to the US after a Russian Jewish film festival he was meant to be doing press for#his last name used to be Fix/Fuchs but he had to change it to less obviously Jewish surname due to antisemitism#love these pugacheva shots :)

had an interview for an academic librarian position last week and thought it went quite well and then today, less than two weeks later, the search committee told me that I'm a finalist for the position and that they'd like to invite me for a full-day on-site interview i heard that this is how most academic positions go but i am truly in shock...they want me there at 9 AM and I'm not sure when a "full day" ends for them. I'm going to be meeting with faculty and making a short presentation on a topic related to library technologies i am so anxious but also excited...the starting pay is already 10K more than I make now (and I'm currently making 10K more than I started out making back in 2021) and can go up to the triple digits so please keep me in your thoughts it is also hybrid with plenty of WFH opportunities. the best part is that the reference desk is completely virtual :') no more wondering if a patron is going to murder me or spit at me or lunge at me
