there's a p common attitude in fandom spaces (fandom in general, not a specific one) that's like "why care about canon, or the characters being ooc? we're here to play with the dolls any way we like" and as much as i obviously am a person who thinks about canon a lot in theory i'm into that. in practice though when popular fanon takes things in a wildly different direction from canon so often it's in the service of taking something that was originally canonically weird and interesting and making it blander. it's flattening a complex character into a broad archetype i've seen a million times before, it's taking two characters with a complicated canonical relationship and writing them in a way where you could find-and-replace the names with any other popular migratory slash fandom pairing and the fic would make as much if not more sense. if you're going to break away from canon at least do something interesting? don't make it less weird? i feel like i'm watching someone take a really beautiful expensive cut of wagyu steak and grind it into hamburger to cook it well done and cover it in ketchup

Next Life: They have seven lives. Each life follows one season's gimmick.

1st: Non hostile, like being green in Third Life.

2nd: You need to kill one person per session or lose a life (because Last Life was when the Boogeyman started).

3rd: Non hostile. You get randomly paired with someone and you share a health bar (if possible, someone on 1st or 2nd.)

4th: Hostile, but only to players with more lives than you. You have a timer set to four hours. Dying loses you one hour, killing gains you 20 minutes.

5th: Get a secret task each session. The tasks are meant to hurt other players, and you only get one per session. If you fail your health bar is cut in half next session. This is stackable, but you die just if you fail your task with half a heart

6th: Hostile. Play in VR.

7th: You are hostile and have your superpower from Wild Life.

The more seasons there are the more intense this gets

ok but literally lemme say smthng ☝️ (guy who always talks abt how race often affects fanon perceptions) does anyone think abt how cqs race often affects fanon perceptions and its not a coincidence how his portrayals will change to v predictable categories to fit the mold or stereotype the scenario he's being placed in calls for. let me explain ☝️ UNDER THE CUT BCS I THOUGHT I WROTE LESS THEN I DID #MENTALLYSICKINTHEHEAD

ok...so here are sm of my examples. many racist ass ctntheads use cwil as their own extension of self and/or a perfect vessel for idealized white boy character of the hourisms, which often translates into wanting another character to facilitate that. cq is chosen, so tht makes him the latin daddy hard dom caretaker accessory. he's stone faced he's an object he's not given his own opinions or thoughts. his stated goals and issues are somthing to discard, he's not allowed to want care or consideration back, he's infinitely patient (until it's hot for him to not be), he's placid and ready to fuck at the snap of a finger...everything gets swallowed in service of becoming a better object fr cwil to use. this also applies to cdap,,, cq is all those things ON TOP of only being allowed to exist in a perpetual stake of penance while ccharlies "purity" is exaggerated upon, which could mean anything. and ik it cn be easy to trip up bcs ccharlie IS naive, and cq IS in the business of wanting to show him ropes in that v flawed way of his, but it's sooo obvious to see whn smbody reduces down the other parts of their characters to become a hyperspecific version of whts on screen yk...ccharlie isn't allowed to canonically be the hypocrite or liar or agency filled conscious objector he is, and cq isn't allowed to have his own needs or reasons or exist in anything outside of service of that. yget what i'm sayin?

for racist ass ckarlnapityheads, they USED to show their asses by just...not including cq at all. on a v canon level, there's a lot of interesting tension and flaws and complexities to their relationship, but ithnk its v v clear whn smbody is trying to address THAT vs trying to write out one of the only brown characters in the series🧍‍♂️like his inclusion smhow fundamentally broke smthing tht was like. already an issue fr them in the first place,,, that or he becomes a vessel to show wht good ppl ckrlnap are....he's once again an object but like a. third party one, he's a prize tht needs to be saved frm blahblahblah or this n that. like a core aspect of cq isn't his agency, his drive his beliefs his OWN path tht HE carves. but now he cn spend the rest of eternity forever grateful to even be taken into consideration....everything abt him tht makes him HIM, the grit the passion the hope the righteousness, even the crucial messy shitty UGLY parts of him, sanded down to become more palatable and desirable. tthts literally smthng cq struggles w in canon but if it cn facilitate him being a lamp in their house we don't have to look at it any deeper llike. does anyone know wht to do.

even on the flip side, ppl who DON'T like him show their asses by how their villanize and warp him..crivals are both enemies to cq through their own horrible, inexcusable actions, but ppl who cannot pull themselves out of crivals asses need a guy to paint as the TRUE monster, so oh hey, lucky him! cq's reasonable anger at ctechno hurting him and his friends nonstop and for next to no reason turns into cq, who is brown, doing racially coded violence to a canonically white character. cq is portrayed as the most fantasy racist, the most unreasonably sadistic, cq is a hysterical hulking power hungry maniac, but not poor ctechno 🥺 he's just a poor most powerful guy on the server! all the violence he does can be handwaved away! all the horrible things he does are just a mistake! if only cq, who had 1/800000000000000 of his power and resources, didn't force his hand. like brother.

or w cdrm, ithink you can REALLY feel the difference in how white characters vs brown characters are treated, bcs ycn LITERALLY see it w the disparity between csam and cq portrayals. ppl who refuse to acknowledge the PLAIN TEXTUAL FACT tht cdrm is a conniving, heartless, child kidnapping, child abusing, mass torturing, mass murdering, suicide assisting MORON need smbody ELSE to shoulder that burden. the prison needs to be the worsttt thing it could possibly be for their poor rotting slug, the #1 victim in the world (🤢), w no consideration over the reality tht all the ppl he hurt have already experienced literally decades upon decades more suffering than he has. you literally cannot seperate how his whiteness can act like shield fr him w many, how everything he does MUST be taken in its most charitable, most bullshit, most nitpicky out of context ass way to even PRETEND he has 1/800000000000000 of a point.

so wht does csam become in all this...less than nothing. an ooc vehicle fr misery fanfic and the hallucination of a SCENT of toxic yaoi. he's bland, he's mush, his motivations shifted to the side or downplayed, his hand taken as much more involved than it was. he's soooo crazy 😅 but it's almost like its out of his control!

but wht does cq become? oh well ^__^ he's the real villain the whole time, if ythink abt it! cq, who is canonically disgusted by wht he's doing in the prison but willing to do it bcs he believes the injustice cdrm has subjected them all too must be paid back/amended, who is canonically doing it fr the revive book and the security it'll finally bring to the server, who is canonically pushed into it by the final straw of cscamduo's butalization at cdrms hands....but no, he's actually doing this bcs hes suchhhh a one note freak! he's an unhinged paranoid demon, unmanageable, his fundamental care zapped frm his body to more easily make him that big hulking scary cartoonishly soulless and violent brown man. if ythink abt it, cdrm, the white guy, got colonized!! if ythink abt it, yk the irl prison system tht unfairly targets esp black and also brown people the most, it's a one to one to the fake mc prison! and cdrm is the biggest victim to that too! and making the figurehead of that one of the only poc characters as well as mexican specifically, a demographic specifically targeted by this system, is a normal and reasonable thing to do. saying cq is a sexual abuser despite zero evidence and shown disgust is completely ok, DUH, but implying cdrm is TEXTUALLY coded as a groomer is taking it too far. do you honestly and truly hear yrselves.

and i do wnna make it clear tht like...yr allowed to have different portrayals, and none of these dynamics are worthless or not allowed to be shown in their full complexity tht would be lunacy! ihate ctnt but they have canonical sauce thts just the truth...im no ckrlnapityhead (no hate to them just not for me!) but again, they have a lotta interesting stuff and i acknowledge that :] cdap is awesome even though the final two lnvs were ten cans of ass, and crivals can go to hell and suffer for all eternity fr all i care but they're still interesting dynamics yk narratively they say sm abt all of them! the issue isn't that, and im not saying ycant portray the messier aspects of cq in fact i CONSTANTLY talk abt how he's actually way weirder n shittier n more intense thn ppl wnna admit...im just saying i don't think it's a coincidence tht a 70% white fanbase tends to have such shockingly uniform boxes to fit him into 💀 yk. so i would rlly appreciate mb giving stuff a little double check n going hmm. is this plot beat or racist stereotype. and if yr coming into it w a crazy ratio for racist stereotype then erm. well. change or delete yr blog ♡
