Minnesota Representative, Hortman and her husband were killed in what is believed to be a targeted act of political violence last night and Senator Hoffman and his wife weren shot multiple times by a man impersonating law enforcement. As of this time Hoffman and his wife are out of surgery and alive.

If you’re local to these affected areas and someone claiming to be police come to your door, it is advisable to dial 911 and confirm with dispatch that they are legitimate officers and not the impersonator.

I don’t know if it’s still happening but Brooklyn police were reported to be moving in pairs to avoid being confused for the impersonator who is as far as we are aware, alone.

Please, please, please if you are going to the protests across Minnesota today, be extra careful of anyone in uniform. Cops are already not our friends, but this is an added layer of unpredictable violence.

my mom is 61 and her bf is a huge nerd and he’s teaching her to play magic the gathering and he had her watch avatar the last airbender with him and his ringtone is terra’s theme from final fantasy 6 and he paints pictures of sephiroth. my mom’s bf is nerdier than i’ll ever be.

and she does all these pinterest crafts and now she makes little bejeweled vials of healing potions for him and his buddies. my little geek heart can’t handle all this.

George Floyd Square on May 22, 2020. Nearing the 5 year anniversary of George Floyd’s murder, the area where George Floyd was murdered by Minneapolis police continues to be a place of protest.

imagine if George Floyd had remained anonymous and no one knew his name but his children, his grandchildren, his family, friends and neighbors. He would grow old with them and enjoy the lovely simplicities of life. Her poem made the searing point that George should not have had to die to change the world or to be known. He was known by everyone whose life he touched with his thoughtful, gentle spirit. He should have been allowed to continue living and giving the people in his life that. Because that — who George Floyd was — was more than enough to give. I leave you with excerpted lines from her poem and encourage you to explore it in its fullness, as well as the book and articles I reference here. And on May 25th, instead of remembering how George Floyd died, let’s all remember how George Floyd lived and how loved he made the people around him feel.
