Also the cognitive dissonance that ship's supporters have is so funny. Half of their excuses don't make any damn sense when dissected, including the it was normal in Feudal Japan shit. I think the thing people need to understand is that the Feudal era Japan excuse doesn't matter in the context of the anime, because we live in a world where we now recognize that this is wrong, and this anime was created during this time. Also even back then young girls didn't want to marry old men, they were often quite literally forced by the men in their families. To constantly use this reasoning as an excuse is wiping away years of women history and the violations of their agency to support a questionable ship.
The other thing I constantly see people say is that Sesshomaru never saw Rin as a daughter, and while that can be true, idk why this father/daughter dynamic is important. I don't think he saw her as a daughter but he did see her as a ward and someone worth protecting and this is a relationship that was established when she was a child. So essentially their relationship boils down to a grown man that starts a family with his ward who he first encountered as a child. Not only is this weird and gross based on the way they started, but also there is a clear power imbalance that has no hope of ever being equalized.
Rin can never be in the position to be an equal to Sesshomaru, not just in terms of strength because that's not important in this context, but socially speaking. She was his ward, and indebted to him as a child, she continues to receive expensive things from him in her youth, and she is never put into a position where she can ever realistically refuse him if she wants to, and this is all even before they get together. So no, I don't think there is a valid reason as to why this ship should be acceptable, whether or not it's fiction, and in the end all it does is character assassinate Sesshomaru for no reason other than wanting to make money off an established franchise.
re-watching inuyasha and getting violently reminded that disgusting sessrin ship is canon (not to me) every time they appear on screen
