SM Cinema Brings Magic Through ‘Movies for the Blind’
For most, watching a movie is an everyday treat.
But for those with visual impairments, it’s often an experience left out of reach. Led by Project ADAM (Audio Description Awareness Movement), SM Cares, SM Cinema, GMA Pictures, GMA Public Affairs, and Hit Productions Inc., with support from The Nippon Foundation, Overbrook School for the Blind, CBM Global, ICEVI, Beneficent Technology, Inc. (Bookshare) and Quantum Post, families and individuals across the country are discovering the magic of the movies—together.
As part of SM Supermalls’ ongoing commitment to accessibility and inclusion, SM malls have begun hosting audio-described film screenings specially designed for persons who are blind or visually impaired. These unique screenings include narrated descriptions of scenes, settings, and actions, allowing all moviegoers to share in the full experience.

“This is more than just a film screening—it’s a movement,” says Project ADAM Convenor Ronnel del Rio. “We’re paving the way for a future where accessibility in media is the norm, not the exception.” Project ADAM is also pushing for legislation to make Audio Description a standard feature in Filipino films, ensuring equal access to entertainment for all.

“Movies for the Blind is a reminder that inclusion starts with empathy—by opening our spaces, we open hearts,” said Engr. Bien C. Mateo, SM Cares Program Director for Disability Affairs. “With this new innovative way of presenting movies to our audiences, we hope to increase accessibility and touch even more lives through the wonders of cinema and storytelling,” added Engr. Bien C. Mateo.
Through programs like this, SM continues to show that every mall can be a safe, welcoming space for all—regardless of ability.

The 2025 NBA season gave us one of the most intense and unpredictable finishes in recent years - and the Play-In format played a key role once again.
Since its introduction, what started as a temporary experiment has become a real force that shapes the playoff picture and opens doors for new contenders.
The Play-In is now over, and it’s time to move beyond just explaining how it works. Now we can reflect on its results and ask the bigger question: how did this mini-tournament shake up the postseason and change the balance of power?
Experts at 1xBet have gathered the most important insights from the 2025 Play-In and how it is influencing the current playoffs.
What Is the Play-In? The format was first introduced in 2020 and became a permanent part of the NBA postseason in 2021. It allows teams ranked 7th through 10th in each conference to fight for the final two playoff spots.

Western Conference:
Golden State Warriors proved they still have the fight. Their victory over the Memphis Grizzlies earned them the 7th seed and a place in the postseason.
Dallas Mavericks, led by Luka Dončić, fought their way through Sacramento and then Memphis to claim the 8th seed — making the Western Conference bracket even more dangerous, despite losing Kyrie Irving to the Lakers in February."
What Did the 2025 Play-In Show Us?
Motivation until the final game. Teams stay locked in until Game 82, knowing the 10th seed can still mean a chance at the playoffs.

First Batch of Youth Trainees to Kickstart Food Service OJT at Select Jollibee Group Stores
The inaugural batch of youth trainees under JGF’s ACE Program and Youthworks PH is set to begin their on-the-job training in select stores of Jollibee, Chowking, and Greenwich in Cebu.
The inaugural batch of youth trainees under the Jollibee Group Foundation's (JGF), Access, Curriculum, and Employability (ACE) Program and Youthworks PH is set to begin their on-the-job training in select stores in Cebu of Jollibee, Chowking, and Greenwich. This program is a collaboration between the Jollibee Group, and Primary Structures Educational Foundation, Inc. – School of Knowledge for Industrial Labor, Leadership, and Service (PSEFI-SKILLS), together with the Philippine Business for Education (PBEd), and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The 21 “Not in Education, Employment, or Training” (NEET) youth trainees kickstarted their work-based training at Jollibee Group stores This is the second part of their training after 10 weeks of classroom training that Jollibee Group funded, including the trainees’ allowances and accommodation. Apart from that, Jollibee Group and JGF also worked with PSEFI-SKILLS in the development of the curriculum for the Quick Service Restaurant Operations (QSRO) track, which is designed to fill the gap for professionalized personnel training in the food service industry.
The QSRO is one of the two tracks under the ACE Scholarship Program; the other track focuses on agriculture, which is done in partnership with technical-vocational training institutions to provide youth from low-income families the opportunity to stay in school and eventually improve their livelihoods.
The Supervised Industry Learning (SIL), an aspect of the Youthworks PH program, will run from September to December 2024. During this phase, the trainees will work alongside experienced store managers and crew members within Jollibee Group stores and will undertake a range of tasks including customer service, food handling, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation, and other operational procedures.
Launched in 2018, YouthWorks PH is a private sector initiative to increase access to quality training and employment opportunities for unemployed and out-of-school Filipino youth. During the kick-off event last September 23, at Jollibee Parkmall in Mandaue City, Ruth Angeles, Chief Human Resources Officer for Jollibee Group Philippines emphasized the importance of SIL for the trainees.

“We are excited to welcome our trainees into the next phase of their program, where they will gain hands-on experience as skilled service crew. This part is crucial because it puts them in real-world situations and gives them the practical skills they need to handle the challenges of their job,” said Jollibee Group Chief of Human Resources Officer Ruth Angeles.

As one of JGF’s core commitments in uplifting underprivileged youth, JGF President Gisela Tiongson underscored the value of investing in the future of the youth and creating pathways for their success.
"This initiative reflects our commitment to drive social change and open up more opportunities to help the next generation succeed and reach their dreams,” said Tiongson. “At Jollibee Group and JGF, we believe that by investing in youth education, we can build a more inclusive and resilient society where more people have a chance at a better life.”

Jessa Marie Jumao-as, one of the trainees of the YouthWorks PH program, said the workforce development training program has been a “transformative gift” for her. Prior to participating in the program, she used to be part of a cleaning service group, which made her realize that she is happy with work that deals with more people.
“I am very grateful to Jollibee Group and PSEFI-SKILLS for giving me the opportunity to become one of the ACE scholars and trainees of the YouthWorks PH program of PBED and USAID. I am grateful to them because they taught me new skills to be able to work in the food and beverage sector, and to have a better future. This has been a transformative experience,” said Jumao-as.
Youth unemployment is at 11.2%, despite the high number of vacancies in different industries.
“We are elated to see the pilot batch of 21 out-of-school youth in Cebu City jumpstart this opportunity. This project is a testament to what we can achieve when we break down silos and work together. When government, businesses, educators, and communities join forces, we can empower young people, unlock their potential, and build a brighter future for all," said Executive Director of PBED Justine Raagas.

Globe assures Visayas business community of sustained efforts towards inclusive connectivity

Patrick Gloria, Globe External Affairs Vice President, spoke about Globe’s sustained initiatives towards digital transformation at the recently held 15th annual Asia CEO Forum held in Fili Hotel, Nustar Cebu.
The event brought together business leaders to discuss strategies for advancing their enterprises and contributing to Metro Cebu's economic development. This year's forum focused on integrating new technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), to revolutionize business operations and spur growth in the region.
"In today’s digital world, connectivity is not a privilege but a right for all. Globe is committed to bridging the digital divide, ensuring that the benefits of the digital age are accessible to everyone,” said Gloria.
He shared Globe's network initiatives in Cebu aimed at meeting the increasing demand for connectivity. In the last three years, new cell site deployments and expansions of existing sites have bolstered cellular infrastructure, resulting in increased network coverage of of 34% in Cebu City, 10% in Lapu-Lapu City, 9% in Mandaue City, and 47% across the rest of the province.
The company also continues to replace its legacy copper infrastructure with modern fiber technology, greatly enhancing internet speeds and reliability. Over the past five years, Globe has built 241,000 fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) lines, with 30% in Cebu City, 12% in Mandaue City, 12% in Lapu-Lapu City, and 46% across the province.
Beyond investing in infrastructure, Gloria noted the importance of investing in people. Globe maintains a steadfast focus on its customers, believing in following their journey, understanding their unique needs, and addressing these needs through innovative technology.

From Visayas to Manila: Celebrating Pride with Cebuana Lhuillier’s LGBTQIA+ Employees
Two LGBTQIA+ workers from Cebuana Lhuillier Visayas were granted the exceptional chance to travel from the Visayas to Manila to take part in the much-anticipated Quezon City Pride March.
This trip was made possible by their employer as a part of Cebuana Lhuillier's iBelong internal diversity campaign, which aims to promote a welcoming and inclusive work environment.
The two employees, Hipolito “Pauline” Gonzales Jr and Oscar Buenavista Jr stood out in an internal contest which was hosted within the company, thereby earning much-deserved all-expense paid trips to Manila.
Upon coming back to their respective provinces and work, Gonzales and Buenavista reminisce about their Pride March experience and how it feels to be a part of the Cebuana Lhuillier organization.
A Dream Come True For Gonzales, an openly gay branch appraiser of Cebuana Lhuillier Surigao, the chance to join the Pride March in Manila was a dream realized since it covered many first experiences for her, including her first-ever plane ride.
“It was my first time, so it was a new and interesting experience for me. It allowed me to give myself permission to be the real authentic me. From riding a plane and going to Manila to attend the pride march 2024, I feel so grateful and honored for the whole experience,” says Gonzales.
Having worked with the company for 6 years, Gonzales says that she never encountered any discrimination from the organization. Rather, she’s happy to have supportive colleagues who appreciate her hard work. “Never ko naramdaman na pinipigilan kami to express our true selves as long as we are fit to work and that we can do things with PRIDE,” she added.
Marching with Pride Buenavista, a proud LGBTQIA+ branch appraiser from Cebuana Lhuillier Claver, echoed Gonzales’ statements. “What made me stay in Cebuana Lhuillier is the non-toxic workplace that allows me to have peace of mind. Here, I feel respected, seen, and valued by my colleagues as well as our clients,” he said.
In his 5-year stay with Cebuana Lhuillier, Buenavista shares that he has strongly developed strong values like hard work, determination, and patience as these have helped him get to where he is today. For Buenavista, his participation in the Pride March was more than just a personal milestone; it was a statement of visibility and acceptance. “As members of the LGBTQIA+ community, we have to be visible and we should not be ashamed of who we are. Because I believe visibility leads to understanding and understanding leads to acceptance.”

Metrobank is hailed as the Most Recommended Retail Bank in the Philippines by The Asian Banker in the publication’s recently held Global Excellence in Retail Finance Awards.
The recognition was given based on the results of The Asian Banker’s Annual BankQuality™ Consumer Survey, which gathered feedback from over 12,000 customers across Asia in January 2024. MEGAWORLD BUILDS A ‘WORLD MUSEUM’ IN CEBU
The P1.2-billion Mactan World Museum will feature curated pieces and cultural artifacts highlighting centuries of friendship between the Philippines and Spain
Pioneering township developer Megaworld is building a modern museum inside its 30-hectare The Mactan Newtown in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu as an ode to the island’s cultural pride and historical significance.
The P1.2-billion Mactan World Museum will rise along Newtown Boulevard just in front of Megaworld’s 8 Newtown Boulevard residential condominium. It will feature an extensive collection of historic pieces, curated by Dannie Alvarez, president, Alliance of Greater Manila Museums, Inc. (AGMMI) and former head of Committee on Museums of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). This collection highlights the friendship and rich cultural exchange between the Philippines and Spain during the past centuries.
The museum will lend a visual retelling of the travel and arrival of Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan and his crew in Mactan, his defeat against fearless tribal leader Lapu-Lapu, and the Hispanic heritage of the Manila Galleon trade. The museum will feature five main exhibit galleries on the second-floor showcasing collections, artifacts, replica mementos, and interactive virtual displays related to various influences and historical events between the Philippines and Spain. These subjects include Spain’s quest for spices, the Kingdom of Sugbu, Magellan’s early expeditions, and the Battle of Mactan, among others.
The museum will also have two performance halls–a Flamenco Studio and a Multimedia Room–which can be combined into one main hall and accommodate about 270 people. Here, visitors can enjoy watching traditional Spanish dance performances and short play productions. An immersive hall also provides guests with an audio-visual experience of historical events during the Spanish regime in the country.
“It has always been part of our townships’ mission and identity to celebrate the arts, culture, and heritage of every location where we are present. We are excited to bring our plans to fruition for the Mactan World Museum here in Lapu-Lapu City, a destination that plays a big historical significance as far as the Philippines-Spanish heritage is concerned. Being at the center of The Mactan Newtown, this museum will provide locals and tourists with a creative avenue to connect, share interests as a community, expand knowledge, and form a deeper appreciation not only for Mactan but also for our nation’s history,” says Graham M. Coates, head, Megaworld Lifestyle Malls.
To add to the grandeur of the majestic building, three life size monuments will be featured prominently around the structure. Statues of Lapu-Lapu and King Philip II will be both situated along the path leading to the museum’s entrance. Beside the main fountain is the Spanish king atop his horse frozen mid-gallop while Lapu-Lapu’s statue, on the other side of the fountain, will be captured with his arms raised as he copies the wings of the Philippine Eagle perched on his arm. Another life size monument of Ferdinand Magellan will also be found at the museum’s back garden along Newtown Boulevard, with the explorer depicted holding up a globe on his right hand.
Apart from its collection of historical items and art, the museum will also host several other activities rooted in Filipino-Spanish traditions and culture, such as a seasonal bazaar showcasing Cebu’s main delicacies, a guitar-making and retail area, and a self-operated Filipino-themed photo studio.
The Mactan World Museum will be the latest development rising inside The Mactan Newtown. Soon, the township will also feature the Mactan Expo Center, a two-level standalone convention center.
Currently, the township serves as home to topnotch residential condominium developments, office towers, the 547-room Savoy Hotel Mactan Newtown, the 550-room Belmont Hotel Mactan–both managed and operated by Megaworld Hotels & Resorts–and the Mactan Newtown Beach. Also inside the township are schools led by the Newtown School of Excellence, retail shops, service outlets, and restaurants, including a diverse selection of local cuisines at the Mactan Alfresco.
The Mactan World Museum is the fourth museum property Megaworld is building inside its townships after the Chinatown Museum in Lucky Chinatown, and the Iloilo Museum of Contemporary Art (ILOMOCA) and the Brandy Museum in Iloilo Business Park. The World Museum is targeted to open within the next three years.

Cebu Landmasters 2023 net income up 29%, offers preferred shares, and announces first ever international partnership 
CLI announces another year of strong financial performance, with 29% increase in Consolidated Net Income.
CLI starts public offer for its preferred shares.
CLI signs a joint venture agreement with global Japan-based real estate firm NTT UD Asia Pte. Ltd. (NTTUDA), to form CLI NUD Ventures, Inc. and to develop a PHP 6.4B two-tower, Japanese-inspired residential development in the heart of Cebu IT Park.
Leading developer in Visayas and Mindanao Cebu Landmasters Inc. (CLI) posted a 29% increase in consolidated net income year-on-year, to PHP 4.64 billion. CLI also recorded significant growth in net income to its shareholders, up by 13% to PHP 3.58 billion from last year’s PHP 3.17 billion. The growth is attributed to a solid 20% increase in consolidated revenue, reaching PHP 18.8 billion across all revenue streams mainly from real estate sales revenues, and also includes hotel operations, and leasing.
This is on the back of strong demand for the listed company’s residential properties and its diverse and dynamic business portfolio. 
Revenue from real estate sales maintained an upward trajectory, rising 20% to PHP 18.5 billion, driven by consistent collections and steady construction progress. Record-breaking reservations of PHP 20.6 billion was also achieved, marking a 14% increase from 2022’s PHP 18 billion. This adds to our pipeline of future revenues. 
The listed company launched 10 new projects in 2023, with a collective value of PHP 18.7 billion and offering 4,249 units. These projects achieved an impressive 63% sell-out rate with less than a year in the market. Completed projects are already 97% sold-out, resulting in the blended total portfolio sell-out rate of 93%.
CLI's recurring income projects, particularly hotel operations and leasing, also saw impressive growth rates. The company’s hotel operations grew 66% to PHP 139 million and leasing went up by 42% to PHP 112 million.

CLI has expanded its hospitality portfolio from a single hotel Citadines Cebu City to now 3 including the recently opened lyf Cebu City in Base Line Center, and The Pad Co-Living in Banilad High Street in Cebu. With an initial offering of 180 rooms, CLI now boasts nearly 800 room keys, with 7 more hotel projects underway poised to drive future hotel revenue growth.
Additionally, the Gross Leasable Area (GLA) grew to 35,772 sqm from 28,411 sqm driven by newly completed projects like Banilad High Street, Base Line Center Phase 2, and Retail Pods in Davao Global Township.
Capital expenditures totalled PHP 12.9 billion during the year, with 82% allocated to project development and 6% directed towards land acquisition and the remaining 12% for investment property. 
With the company’s consistent double-digit growth and exceptional performance, the CLI Board of Directors approved on March 18 the declaration of a regular dividend of PHP 0.15 centavos per share, along with a special dividend of PHP 0.03 centavos per share. These dividends will be distributed to shareholders on record as of April 17, with payments scheduled on May 3, 2024. The board’s decision reflects CLI’s commitment in growing shareholder value since the IPO.

CLI Starts Public Offer Period for Preferred Shares
CLI had a significant milestone with the start of public offering of its preferred shares totaling PHP 3 billion, with an additional PHP 2 billion oversubscription. The offer period is from March 19 to April 2. Investors of the preferred shares can look forward to attractive dividend yields, with 4-year Series A-1 at 7.585% and the 7-year Series A-2 at 8.25%. The said shares are scheduled to be listed on PSE’s main board on April 12, 2024.
The proceeds from the offering will provide CLI with a substantial capital infusion, facilitating strategic initiatives, and expansion projects, and bolstering its balance sheet for future growth. 
CLI signs joint venture agreement with Japan real estate firm NTT UD Asia 
CLI also announced its first international partnership, forming a joint venture with Japan-based global real estate firm NTT UD Asia Pte. Ltd. (NTTUDA), a subsidiary of NTT Urban Development Corporation (NTTUD), to establish CLI NUD Ventures, Inc. 
The initial project is a PHP6.4 billion, two-tower, Japanese-inspired residential complex in Cebu IT Park, with Tower 1 set to launch by Q4 2024. This collaboration with CLI marks NTTUD's first venture in the Philippines, expanding its global portfolio with mixed-use, office, and residential projects.
CLI Chairman and CEO Jose Soberano III said, “We are bullish that the strategic capital raise through preferred share issuance and our first-ever international partnership would fortify our growth and expansion. This also strengthens our commitment to delivering exceptional value to our stakeholders as we keep enlarging our business."
CLI’s 2024 growth initiatives
CLI has new development in the pipeline worth PHP27 billion, including expansion projects in various regions such as Butuan. For 2024, the company has earmarked PHP 14.5 billion for capital expenditure, with a portion dedicated to land acquisition, particularly for its inaugural Luzon project.
The company’s strong financial performance, diversified revenue streams, strategic expansion initiatives, and a robust pipeline of upcoming projects position the company for continued growth and success in the coming years.

Cebu Landmasters reports 28% first 9 month growth
Solidifies market leadership in VisMin
● CLI reported a 28% increase in consolidated net income, reaching P3 billion by end-September. ● Double-digit revenue growth across all business segments led to an 18% rise in gross revenue to P12.93 billion ● Colliers International's most recent study reaffirms CLI's market leadership in VisMin with the highest market share at 23% in net take-up.
Leading developer in VisMin Cebu Landmasters Inc. (CLI) continued to deliver robust growth in its consolidated net income for the first nine months of the year, posting a 28% rise to hit P3 billion in end-September from the P2.4 billion recorded in the same period last year.
CLI’s net income attributable to the parent company also posted a solid 9% increase to reach P2.4 billion from P2.2 billion in the previous year.

Cebu Landmasters unveiled the fourth tower of Casa Mira Towers Palawan early this year with the first three towers already fully sold out less than a year after launch. Casa Mira, CLI’s flagship economic brand, accounted for 52% of total sales in the first nine months of the year, underscoring continued strong demand for housing in the economic market.
Impressive double-digit revenue growth was recorded across all of CLI’s business segments, pushing the listed firm’s gross income to rise by 18% to P12.93 billion from P10.96 billion.
"We are very pleased with our performance this year, achieving double-digit profit expansions in the last three quarters despite the headwinds of inflation and higher interest rates in the country. This underscores CLI's commitment to providing value to shareholders and affirms the sustainability of our growth trajectory,” CLI chairman and CEO Jose Soberano III said.
Across segments, CLI’s real estate unit continued to be the primary driver of the company's revenue. The sector posted a remarkable 17% increase, propelled by ongoing construction progress and higher units that qualify revenue recognition.
CLI's sales also surged 25% to reach P17 billion in the first nine months of the year. Casa Mira, CLI’s flagship economic brand, accounted for 52% of total sales, underscoring continued strong demand for housing in the economic market. The listed company successfully launched 3,664 units valued at P14.87 billion as of end-September, contributing to an exceptional 93% sell-out status for all projects in various stages of development.

Throughout the year, the company spent a total of P10.4 billion in capital expenditures, mostly allocated to project development. A notable investment was the acquisition of a 21-hectare land in the city of General Santos, planned to be developed as economic and mid-market communities.
Meanwhile, Colliers International's recent real estate market study affirms CLI's continued market leadership in VisMin. As the foremost developer, the listed company holds the highest market share at 23% in net take-up.

“While we are thrilled with what has been a milestone year in which we celebrate our 20th anniversary, we look forward to reaching new heights with more developments and key partnerships on the horizon,” Soberano said.
