headcanon #006: space sweepers
word count: 501 words.
mirae’s last project before space sweepers had been yongsoon, her first lead role, in 2017. though the film released almost four years after her preceding project, the entire process of the film from mirae’s first audition to the release of the film was the longest out of all of her previous projects. the ambitious nature of the film meant the pre-production and post-production periods in particular were elongated.
filming itself lasted four months of pretty intensive filming. mirae wasn’t in pretty much every scene like for yongsoon, but she was in the majority of them and she had to adjust to new parts of acting she’d never had to tackle before due to the amount of cgi in the film and one of the other main cast members being a cgi robot, meaning the actor playing the role wasn’t always present on set.
captain jang was a very different role from those mirae had played previously, as she’d up to that point been typecast into young roles with some aspect of innocence to them. captain jang doesn’t have any defining sense of innocence or purity to her and is instead rough around the edges, the captain of a space ship, and a former soldier. mirae was pleased to be able to step outside of what she’d done up to that point in such a big way and felt it would be a turning point in her acting career if she pulled off the role successfully. she put a lot of time and effort into studying the character before and during filming and she perceives space sweepers as being the film she grew the most as an actor during the filming of.
critical reception to her portrayal was mostly positive, excluding the always-present dubiousness that some feel towards idol actors. she was able to establish herself more as an actor and lit a fire within herself for acting that’s allowed her to start pushing past the limits that were on her for a long time of putting the group first before her personal career.
mirae says she doesn’t ever want to play two characters that are too similar, and she holds to that, but she’d like to take on another role like captain jang one day, someone assertive and capable. captain jang was a character with very different life experiences to mirae, but she was still able to connect to the character, which mirae credits as the reason she was able to keep her portrayal grounded and sympathetic.
it was only when working on this film that she realized how much her previous roles had felt based around men and even when she played someone who didn’t feel that way, she was oftentimes surrounded by men on set. while she’s satisfied with her work in space sweepers in many ways, it did make her want to try to seek out more roles where she can act within projects with a lot of women both in front of the camera and behind it.

fmdrina:
“when you were my age? are you that much older than me?” rina couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle, mirae didn’t seem that much older than her but what she did she really know? but waiting every few years, it wasn’t something rina was sure she had in her. she spent too much time as an idol and now she needed to take whichever roles she could get. it’d be harder once she was a bit older.
rina understood what mirae was saying, it just didn’t feel that way when it came to the company, she had to find the perfect role for them to support. “once again good advice.” because it was when she applied it to just herself and only herself. “hopefully, i’ll be able to keep it with me for future projects.” whenever that one came.
rina perked up a bit, her eyes going wide. “that does sound different and fun.” maybe, she’d get to try something like that one day. even as a supporting character, she just wanted to act in as many things as she could. “when does it air, i’ll make sure i won’t miss an episode, do you know any your co-stars already? no need to tell me who.”
“how old are you?” mirae refuses to think of herself as old the way the industry tries hard to make her feel at times, but she’s well-aware of the fact she debuted before most everyone still active. “wish debuted years after we did. i was born in 1993, so either way, you’re younger than me; listen to what i say.” mirae laughs as she jokingly scolds the younger.
“and you know what? if you do take a project and it's not the right one, it’s fine. even the greats have a work or two to their name that they could have done without. it’s a chance to grow. have you gotten any scripts you’re considering right now? you could talk them over with me and it might shed some light on what you want.”
mirae presses a finger to her own lips conspiratorially, but then tilts her head as she considers how much information has been made publicly available. “it releases on netflix in september! it all comes out at once, so you don’t have to worry about remembering it more than once. i’ve already filmed a little over half of it — it’s four episodes.”

In the year 2092, Captain Jang is a former Special Forces Squad officer who deserted her post to create her own pirate organization. She’s smart and insightful, but hot-tempered.
Space Sweepers was released in February 2021 after nearly four years since Mirae’s last acting role. As the first Korean space sci-fi blockbuster, Mirae was excited to be a part of it. It challenged her in the technical aspects of acting in ways she’d never had to face before, and she grew a lot through working on the project. It gave her more confidence in her abilities as an actress and more passion than ever for forging new frontiers for herself. Captain Jang has become a favorite role among her fans, too.

headcanon #005: mirae’s pets
word count: 543 words
in spite of having a complicated relationship with some members of her own family, mirae is a very family-oriented person, and has remedied that by becoming the owner of a few different pets over the past few years. currently, she has four pets: a parrot named bruno, a dog named lila, and two cats named pepero and daphne.
mirae bought lila, her bichon frise, in 2019. she hadn’t ever had a dog growing up because her mom said they didn’t have the resources to dedicate to having one (which, in her defense, was true), so it took mirae a while to feel comfortable that she had enough time to dedicate to a dog herself. lila is the pet she’s had the longest, so she’s the one mirae is the most comfortable with and lila tends to get a little extra affection.
bruno is a gift mirae bought for her dad’s birthday in her early years of being an idol. at the time, he’d recently expressed interest in owning a parrot but was unable to really afford it, so mirae fronted the bill for the bird and its care. unfortunately, her dad ended up moving into a new place where the landlord wouldn’t let him keep bruno in 2019, and mirae agreed to take him in as her own. she didn’t plan on having him in the long-term, but they’ve been together for two years now and she’s attached. he can be skittish around new people, but around those he’s comfortable with, like mirae, he’s very affectionate and curious. he’s well-trained and generally well-behaved. the plan is still for him to move back in with her dad once that’s possible, which is supposed to be this year, but, suffice to say, she’s become attached. parrots can require a lot of care and attention, though, so she worries that if she gets too busy with her career, it will make it difficult to be a good owner.
pepero is a siamese cat who came into mirae’s life in 2020. similarly to bruno, it was an instance of a friend’s sibling moving and not being able to take their kitten with them. he was named pepero because of his dark legs that look like they were dipped in chocolate. mirae offered to take the cat in. she makes sure to keep pepero and bruno apart at all times.
lastly, mirae got daphne this year, 2021. she adopted her from a shelter, who had already named her, because pepero had been showing signs of loneliness since lila isn’t the best cat companion. pepero and daphne get along great now, despite an awkward start, and getting pepero company actually helped the cats to get more friendly with lila too, and it’s not unheard of for them to play together.
the only pet mirae named was lila, and she found that name online while looking for dog name ideas.
mirae doesn’t have any plans to get more pets for the time being. her place isn’t gigantic and it’s enough work already to take care of the pets she has, plus they all get along well (except for bruno, who, by nature of not being all that ~socially compatible~ with predator animals, never gets to be around the others unsupervised).

( ✉ → hwang mirae ) his first love? cuuute! :o how old is your brother, if you don’t mind me asking?
( ✉ → yeo jiwon) if you want there to be! you’re successful enough to be charging extra now. ( ✉ → yeo jiwon) how about the usual market price and i treat you to a meal as thanks? ( ✉ → yeo jiwon) he’s thirty-one and got dumped a few months ago, which is why i’m inclined to believe he’s more a fan than the song reminding him of his current life.

fmdrina:
“i think thing’s will be fine with the both of us.” rina let out a chuckle, “just in case you weren’t interested in an acting career.” she never knew what people wanted to do in their personal lives. some people really did enjoy being idols, they loved every bit of it. it just wasn’t her.
“very good points, i’m just not sure what where i want to head yet.”
she had been looking over a few scripts, not sure what she wanted to bring to the company. “i feel like i have to find the perfect one to fight for because bc can be choosy. i almost didn’t get the call.” it just didn’t fit well with wish but he showed her range. “still, good words of advice, it just makes me more sure about acting, can you tell me about your drama? just a little bit.”
acting is something mirae has been passionate about since before she’d made her acting debut back in 2012, but when her friends talk about favoring it over life as an idol, she can’t relate. being an idol and being and actress are two sides of the coin for mirae, and the two things she wants to keep doing for the rest of her career.
“you don’t have to know. you’re still young. when i was your age, i was only picking up a role every two years or slow.” sure, she might have missed out on roles because of it, but she’s happy she took it slow and gave herself time to take lessons and have life experience and grow between each project. now that she’s older, she feels more prepared for taking on roles in quicker succession.
“there’s no such thing as the perfect role, so don’t stress too hard about that. when the role comes to you that you need to fight for, then that’s the one you fight for. if you have to stop and consider whether it’s worth fighting for, it’s not the one.” mirae looks at nari inquisitively, wondering if she’s helping at all.
“i’m under an nda, but i’ll test its limits for you,” mirae jokes. “it’s an anthology series, actually. four episodes with four different directors and four different stories, and i get to play the lead in each one. the kind of thing that only really works on netflix, but i guess that’s why i wanted it so badly. it’s different.”

Netflix and Gold Star Media have confirmed that Silhouette’s Mirae has been cast to play the main role in the upcoming Netflix original anthology series Persona. Persona is a series of four episodes, each directed by one of four different directors from Korea and each episode will star Mirae in the lead role. A press release states that each episode will have different themes and concepts to tell the unique story of the main character Mirae will play in each.
According to the press release, Mirae has already been hard at work filming the series since the beginning of June and Persona is scheduled to be released onto Netflix on September 24.
Mirae starred in the Netflix-distributed film Space Sweepers earlier this year and recently gained attention for a viral performance video on her YouTube channel. Mirae is currently promoting with Silhouette for their latest comeback “Kill Bill”.
COMMENTS
1. is she really ready to carry a whole project?
2. two acting projects in a year is a first for mirae! as a mirae fan, i feel spoiled
3. netflix must have taken a liking to mirae
4. mirae’s never acted the same role twice, so this is the perfect series for her
5. too bad… this is the kind of project that would have been really strong if they’d picked a real actress
6. she should stick to dancing on her little youtube channel

kill bill (july 19, 2021)
i did something bad don’t look at me with those shocked eyes should i just confess everything now? guess why i didn’t pick up your call last night
“kill bill” is one of mirae’s favorite comeback silhouette has ever had. if she’d been given creative control over a silhouette comeback, it would have looked a lot like this comeback does. the concept in general is based on the popular film kill bill, but the song and choreography are where mirae’s really in love. to mirae, the choreography is sexy and confident without being too objectifying; it makes her feel powerful and sexy at the same time. the song explores the act of revenge not as something rose-colored for the sake of maintaining a palatably agreeable image, but something fully vindictive. she’s happier than ever about where silhouette is in their careers.
#( * character development. )#gun tw#knife tw#linked the dance ver b/c the main mv has so many triggers to tag but also because gain looks so good in the dance ver

( ✉ → park duri ) but if you gave some of it away, we wouldn’t get such good songs! ( ✉ → park duri ) it’s good! sad, but good. i sent it to a director i know and told him it reminds me of a lot of something i’m filming soon. ( ✉ → park duri ) is that what you’re up to these days? writing and composing songs? ( ✉ → park duri ) okay, i’ll learn it! it’s too bad our promotion periods just missed each other or i would have come asked the master to teach it to me himself.

Sawol is the fifteen year-old daughter of a farmer who died after being jailed for not being able to pay his debt. She was sold off as a servant to a nobleman to pay off what remained of the debt before being sold to the king as a kitchen assistant and has been through many hardships as a result of her background. She eventually is given the role of being the royal food taster.
Sawol was the first acting role Mirae was ever cast in. She was eighteen at the time and all of her acting experience was confined to lessons and what little acting Silhouette’s music videos and CFs required, so when she got offered a role in Masquerade, a major film with major talent connected to it, she knew she had to take the chance. The movie did well at the box office and at awards shows, but looking back on her first foray into acting, Mirae is more proud of herself that she was able to take on a character that, to her, was a good example of a supporting role not needing to lack depth or impactful scenes. The role of Sawol helped her fall in love with acting.
